22.01.2022 If you have returned from anywhere overseas in the last 14 days AND have symptoms of fever, sore throat or shortness of breath please do not enter our hospital.... This precaution includes visitors and any patients booked for elective surgery, which should be postponed for 14 days after returning to Australia. All urgent admissions (e.g. maternity), with a history of overseas travel will be admitted and managed in consultation with the treating doctor and the appropriate infection control precautions will be applied. As you may be aware there are now three COVID-19 testing clinics operating in Perth, the closest to our hospital is located at Royal Perth Hospital. Thank you in advance for your assistance with this initiative.

12.01.2022 We love a bit of healthy competition between team members here at Mercy Physiotherapy. For our 2018 Staff Christmas competition, we were given a tomato tree each to nurture and grow. When 4 red tomatos are grown on the tree, the competition is won. We were beginning to get a little nervous when one staff member in particular, had shown us a picture of two little green tomatos on her tree a few weeks ago. Unfortunately for her, a couple of hungry rats read our minds, and did the dirty work so that we didnt have to .

08.01.2022 Pelvic Floor & Bladder Myths Lara Diepeveen, Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor You have to do pelvic floor exercises on the floor BUSTED: It is often good to practice in different positions... Deferring the urge to go to the bathroom is good for you BUSTED: The bladder has a capacity of 250-500ml during the day. That is 1-2 cups of fluid. If you drink 1.5-2L of fluid you should go to the toilet between 4-7x a day. You have to tighten everything to do the exercise correctly BUSTED: Your pelvic cylinder is like a toothpaste tube. If you squeeze too much from your tummy it can bear down on the pelvic floor and can weaken pelvic floor Stopping a wee mid-stream is good for you BUSTED: This test can train the bladder to stop mid-stream and retain urine. You can try this once a month as a test of pelvic floor strength You have to go to the toilet before going out BUSTED: We often wee out of convenience. This includes before a movie, long drive or before bed. We should go to the toilet if we need to go (on average every 3-4 hours or more frequent if you drink more), but if you know there is a toilet where you are going just wait until you feel the urge to go to the toilet. Drinking more is good for your bladder BUSTED: You should drink enough to keep your urine pale yellow (normally 1.5 2L of fluid (not just water)) and not thirsty
