24.01.2022 This story is from this morning's AFR. Australian private equity firms are sitting on over $7 billion of "dry powder" - i.e. cash looking for a home. Globally the figure is over $1 trillion. And that doesn't include the cash in the coffers of their investees. This is just one of the reasons we believe there has never been a better time to sell a business or raise capital. http://www.afr.com//private-equity-and-venture-capital-hav

09.01.2022 This story from the AFR last week is an interesting analysis of three macro "gluts" driving the world economy, now and into the near to medium future. First there is a "savings glut" driving down demand, then along came an oil glut (due in large part to the US shale oil revolution) which partly offsets some of the effects of the savings glut. Finally the "money glut" as central banks respond to the first two gluts to try to stimulate demand. This is an interesting analysis as... far as it goes - but highlights the limitations of working with aggregate data at the macro level. The majority of US households are not swimming in excessive savings. At the same time US corporates have record cash holdings and private equity managers are also sitting on record cash holdings. The savings glut, I believe, is symptomatic of income and capital inequality. As income becomes concentrated in fewer hands, the beneficiaries will save more. Hence saving can rise in aggregate, even as median income stagnates or falls. Reversing income inequality (say by increasing median wages) will likely increase demand and reduce aggregate savings. http://www.afr.com//three-gluts-to-shape-the-global-econom

07.01.2022 This story in the UK Telegraph highlights the importance of formal methodology and commercial common sense when it comes to valuing a business. And my business partner Natalie is quoted - so it must be right! http://www.telegraph.co.uk//117808/business-valuation.html

07.01.2022 This is an excellent and concise framework for looking at revenue growth.
