15.01.2022 Artist Client profile - Sonia Payes, photographer and sculptor, is no stranger to the dusty workshops of the foundry having cast several large scale abstract figures and smaller distorted portraits since our meeting in 2017. One of the great parts of Sonia's practice is her contagious and ceaseless enthusiasm for pushing the boundaries in contemporary bronze, resulting in the use of new techniques and modern finishes from high mirror polished works to stunning matte black p...atinas that seem to absorb light as much as they do your gaze. Those produced with Meridian in the last few years were digitally manipulated versions of Sonia's original photographs that our team set about enlarging, moulding, refining and then casting before the real fun of the surface work, colouring and mounting begins. Having made a big splash within several of the nation's more renowned sculpture exhibitions, and collected internationally, we thank Sonia for her patronage and look forward to what's next!
