07.01.2022 An email from the Bega Valley Shire Council to the Merimbula Airport stakeholders outlining a bright future for the Sapphire Coast Regional Airport: 21/06/2016 "As you would be aware, Council has recently been successful in obtaining Federal and State Government funding for improvements and upgrades to the Merimbula Airport.... A funding commitment of $4.391M was obtained from the State Government under the Restart NSW Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund for runway extensions. This is in addition to the $971K already received for upgrades to water infrastructure to the airport. Funding of $1.2M from the Federal Government under the National Stronger Regions Fund for upgrades to the airport terminal building was also received, with Council providing matching funding of $1.2M for the terminal project. We are pleased to advise that advertising is currently underway to recruit an experienced project manager to implement the terminal works. As users of the Merimbula Airport, you are all considered to be stakeholders in this project and accordingly, you will be invited to attend an information session to be held once the project manager has been appointed. We value your input in assisting us with developing an optimal terminal design. An invitation to the information session will be sent out over the coming weeks."
