21.01.2022 CALLING ALL ARTISTS The Merimbula Chamber of Commerce is very pleased to announce that some of the work requested in our submission to Bega Valley Shire Counci...l last year is going to begin taking place soon. This will include a range of small projects as well as an upgrade to the public toilets in Palmer St . Some internal fixtures and fittings will be replaced with modern fittings and the external walls of the building will be rendered and painted When completed, this will provide an opportunity to have some murals painted on the external walls of the building pictured. The Chamber and Council are now seeking expressions of interest from local artists who would like to submit their ideas and a proposal to paint the murals. There is no set theme for the project as long as it is in keeping with the existing town environment and surrounds. There is some funding available for this project, however we need to move quickly because work commences next week. Anyone interested should send their EOI to [email protected] by no later than 5pm on Monday 21 September. Submissions should include 1. Design or description of suggested murals 2. Images of previous work for similar project 3. Proposed cost 4. Recommend background colour for external walls We look forward to seeing what comes forward.

14.01.2022 SWAMP in ACTION Have you ever sat at The Waterfront Caf in Merimbula or walked along the ...boardwalk and noticed the large pipes draining into the estuary below the footpath?? These pipes drain stormwater from Merimbula CBD and have been identified as a significant pathway for rubbish to enter the waterway. SWAMP has been successful in obtaining a $6000.00 grant to manufacture and install two nets to trap the rubbish including plastic so that it can be removed before entering the water, particularly after heavy rain. Any leftover funds will be used to net other stormwater drain pipes in the area. SWAMP will monitor this/these sites and keep records of rubbish Local oyster oyster farmers are also on board, helping to collect rubbish and empty the nets. It is hoped that in the future local students will be involved undertake STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) work around this project and help SWAMP record data - particularly after heavy rain. Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has just announced that as from 6pm today NSW Regional Goes to "Orange" - Vic Border crossings permitted with permit into Victoria. EDIT. A clarification:... Those returning from regional NSW will need to get tested and quarantine until they receive a negative result Initially that was not made clear it is now in their official statements to the media and regional authorities. Red zone (such as Greater Sydney and Brisbane): A red zone means that you will not be allowed to enter Victoria without an exception, permitted worker permit or exemption. Orange zone (such as regional NSW): Those travelling from a designated orange zone must apply for a permit to enter Victoria. You cannot apply for a permit if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, nor if you have visited a red zone. Green zone (everywhere else right now): Those travelling from a designated green zone must apply for a permit to enter Victoria. Southern NSW Local Health District says apart from the three confirmed COVID-19 cases announced in the Eurobodalla Shire earlier this week, t...here are no new cases across the Southern NSW region. Health authorities say one pupil from Batemans Bay Public School and another student from Batemans Bay High School tested positive to the virus, while the third case is not linked to either schools. Both schools closed earlier this week to undergo deep cleaning and have since re-opened for onsite learning. The Health District says more than 400 people have been tested at the Hanging Rock COVID-19 Pop-up Clinic at Batemans Bay yesterday. Health authorities are urging people not to be complacent and to adhere to COVID safe measures, which include social distancing and good hygiene.

The expo will target people looking to relocate to regional areas to live, especially in the wake of the Coronavirus. The expo will be held over a weekend with a trade show style event on the Saturday followed by a showcase of the area on the Sunday.... The expo will feature representatives from a wide range of industries and providers including Education facilities, employment groups, health care, sporting groups, volunteer organisations, service providers, real estate, housing and government bodies.
