24.01.2022 Hi, just wanted to do a quick introduction, I'm Nick the new director of the school of music. I spent the last decade touring the world with a few different bands, but decided last year that it was time to settle down and make the beautiful South Coast my home. I started on trombone in school in my home state of Texas & played in the marching band in high school. On a bit of a whim, I came to ANU Canberra to do a course in jazz performance & ended up sticking around (thanks t...o my beautiful wife, Sarah, who I met at ANU 17 years ago.) I got my bachelor's in Jazz performance on vocals & piano. There I also studied audio production. In the meantime, I was playing in a hip-hop/rock band that toured Australia & even played festivals in Canada. After moving to Melbourne in 2009 I started playing the banjo & in five years went from rank beginner to playing on the main stage of one of the most prestigious bluegrass festivals in the USA with my band Mustered Courage. Toured America five times and have played dozens of festivals oversea & in Australia. A list of our top achievements would be: an ARIA nomination, A Golden Guitar Award winner, recorded with Kasey Chambers & Mark Gable (Choirboys,) played as Paul Kelly's band, shared the stage with Ian Moss & signed to a major record label. After all that, the band is taking a well-deserved break (although we do have two current Golden Guitar nominations that will be decided on this coming Saturday!) I've got my hands full with a three-year-old Grover & eight-month-old Emmett at home in Candelo. I'm busy working on the current schedule for this year's first term & spots are filling fast. If you were a student last term, you are on my list of folks to call & I am working my way through those. 24.01.2022 Wow! This term has flown by! Ricky here with few updates for everyone :) We've now locked in dates for our end of year concerts. They will be held at Merimbula RSL on the 14th and 15th of December. More details and additional performance opportunities tbc next term! This term we are mixing it up a bit and holding an Open Mic night at The Longstocking Brewery on the 21st of September (this Saturday!) from 4pm till 7pm. The Open Mic is an opportunity for our singers and... singer/songwriters to perform but is not limited to students of MSM. Anyone who wants to perform is more than welcome! I will be on hand to provide live accompaniment and general encouragement too :) Also I will be away next week conducting the guitar ensemble at The South Coast Music Camp in Stanwell Tops so it would be great to see you all at The Open Mic to catch up before the holidays! In the holidays we will be confirming everyone's time spots and also extending our availability to accept new enrolments. Send through a message then or give us a bell if you'd like to enrol and we'll get back to you asap! The new foyer and studios are working a treat, check out the pictures! Also note that our studios can also be hired as a professional recording studio. Rates and available times are available upon request so feel free to contact us if you'd like to discuss recording yourself or your band. 23.01.2022 Hey everyone! It's been a great term so far, they fly by so quick! A big welcome to Nick our new Piano, Guitar and Singing teacher :) Spots are still limited but we are taking on more space and building a new studio/foyer in the holidays which will increase availability. So If you'd like to enrol for lessons in term 3 call or text 0404 468 326 :) Also we can accept your Creative Kids Vouchers now so bring them in anytime! The next end of term concert will be held at Merimb...ula RSL at the end of term 3 but we are also hosting an open mic the last Sunday of every month at Dulcies from 4-7. 16.01.2022 Here we go it's Concert time!! At the end of this term we will be holding two concerts to celebrate the achievements and progress of our students this year! They will be held at the Merimbula RSL on the 14th and 15th of December from 630pm in the Auditorium. The concerts are a great opportunity for students to show their friends and family what they have been working on and be inspired :) Teachers will be locking in their student's songs this week and next week. Also let ...your teacher or myself know if your family has a preference for either date by the end of next week too. The RSL has again kindly offered to open their kitchen early at 530pm on both nights if your family would like to have dinner before the concert. Bookings are essential, please call the RSL on 02 64951502 if you'd like to make a booking :) It's been a fantastic year everyone! 09.01.2022 Hi everyone! Holidays are almost upon us once again! In the holidays we will be busy constructing a new studio and foyer. We will also have more teacher availability next term so we will be accepting new enrollments! Best thing to do is call or message 0404468326 to discuss lesson times etc. There will be a big end of term concert both next term and again at Christmas (which will be here before we know it!)Also everyone is welcome to play or have a jam at the Open Mic whi...ch happens at Dulcies in the last Sunday of every month from 4pm-7pm. 07.01.2022 Hey everyone, big news.. I’m moving on from MSM. There’s a number of reasons, both professional and personal and I want to chat with every one of you individually about it all. You’ve all been such a massive part of my life for so many years, and I’m so grateful I’ve had the opportunity to see so many of you grow as musicians and people. Some of you may already know one of our teachers Nickolas who will be the new owner next year. Both of us are going to go into Sapphire FM... tomorrow to discuss everything on the air. The frequency is 97.5 fm, and we’re on from 830am. Tune in! Also if you’ve ever had lessons here at MSM I would love to see you the next two nights at the RSL! It would be great to see you all again!
