24.01.2022 HAPPY EARTH DAY We hope your getting out and amongst nature in these quieter times #artistsforactivism by @attorney.ernie

24.01.2022 PROPAGATE for the planet! Propagating plants, (using offcuts to re-produce more specimens) is an underrated method to save $ and increase the quality of the air we breathe! It’s simply done; make a clean cut of a leaf or root system, (be sure to cut any flowers or bulbs off so all energy goes to growing and root establishment)... Place in a jar -making sure half the offcut covered in water. Select a propagation station that allows your new plants to sit in moderate to full sun inside your house away from the elements as they establish. Be sure to change the water your plants are growing in every 2days. This allows the water to stay fully oxygenated, & be an optimum environment for growing. After six days or signs of obvious growth or strength in the cutting - the offcut is ready to be planted! All for a bit of TLC you have a free new plant that is ready to bring joy and improve air quality to those around it. Propagating is a cost effective and simple way to clean the air and create more plants happy humans ! ~Let us know @mermaid.laundry if you give it a go See more

22.01.2022 G O N A K E D Where possible, opt for goods with the least packaging. Lead the way - be assertive! ... ASK for what you want and know your power as a consumer. Or go one better and come prepared with your own bags/ containers. Doing so normalises BYO culture within your circles. Mother Nature knows the best ways in which to package her goods, so store appropriately & you will reduce waste overall.

21.01.2022 Are you a Shaver ? (power to those that aren’t!) Chances are if you do call on a razor - you use it at least twice a week. Are you using a Disposable or Stainless Safety razor? ... Plot twist- Disposable razors... aren’t actually Disposable. Typically the plastic frames cannot be recycled as they are made of several different materials. A combination of hard plastic, with soft gel-like handles and then the head which encloses the metal blades. Stainless Safety razors are an investment- that will save you $ long term. Like a moon cup - they may seem foreign at first. This sustainable swap is not only financially freeing but allows you to generate less waste as a consumer. The blades are the only wasteful elements of the reusable razors. Mine (pictured above) is from @kappi.life

19.01.2022 HOMEGROWN HERBS.. You just can’t beat them! One of the best ways to lead a lower impact lifestyle can be just outside your backdoor. Potted herbs and greens are a sure fire way to reduce excess plastic consumption generated from store bought herbs ... Embracing your green thumb is cheap too! The seedlings from your local hardware or farmers market pretty much pay for them selves by the harvest. Having a couple of pots in eyes view of the kitchen is a great incentive to increase your plant power within your diet. Pots also mean less weeding, great if you don’t have the space for a patch too! Not to mention the satisfaction and this small self sufficiency provides See more

17.01.2022 As Jan 26 approaches it is important to remember whose land, you’re on and the pain and suffering this public holiday has on First Nation people. For First N...ation people, this date marks the start of invasion that continues to impact our culture and people today. This day should be about reflection and asking yourself, do you see the bigger picture? What are you contributing to this conversation around Jan 26? Where do you stand? Walk with us on a journey of acknowledging that White Australia has a Blak history and Jan 26 is not a date to celebrate. Stand in solidarity with us. Here’s some ways of getting involved: 1. Attend your local march 2. Respectfully wear Aboriginal designed fashion 3. Educate yourself, share information and engage in conversations- More voices matter We started Clothing the Gap for Indigenous AND Non-Indigenous people, so we can see more Aboriginal design in the world. It’s more than a Tee, it’s a conversation starter. Wear your values on your Tee on Jan 26!! 05.01.2022 Please think about this, habitats are made out of many things

05.01.2022 Commercially bottled Conditioners and Shampoos often leave your hair with an elusive residue-like coating ! This perceived greasiness makes you think any to wash it again sooner... AHA ! Clever marketing and product design to hook you in and increase revenue, and make you come back for more.... If you have the means to; why not opt for natural & cheaper alternative (see above). We recommend using the ACV wash in conjunction with a shampoo bar. @mermaid.laundry would like to preface that we realise that making such a swap comes from a place of privilege given the time to research and access to such alternatives. We wish to demonstrate and encourage the most sustainable options that we see appeases the financial and environmental concious efforts of busy humans

02.01.2022 The Joys Of Bulk Shopping! Ahh! The bulk food shop. Reminiscent of days long past- a time before greenie-hipster-millennials (guilty) and plastic pollution, the bulk food store exists quietly in a world turned toward packaging madness. The shops tend to grace main streets, lined with bulk bins containing loose food and home products. The range of foods in many places I’ve visited has been remarkable! The idea goes that you bring a reusable container, whether glass jars, plast...Continue reading
