02.02.2022 Stay stylish & sun safe this summer in one of our SPF50+ rash vests. #kids #beachvibes #sunsafe #summer2022 @velvetimages_bris
25.01.2022 Can’t get outside to play? Then my next place to check out for do at home activities is @littleprintables Particularly good if you need something fast as all their worksheets and packs come as instant downloads... even better, they’ve currently got a massive sale on! Keep checking back each day for places/products I love to keep my littlies entertained... and please, please share yours. If schools close early or don’t go back for a while after Easter we’re gonna need them (not just for the schoolies but the smaller ones too who we’ll likely have less time for - these guys have awesome activities that you can do with kids from as young as 18 months). @lemonfolkphoto
23.01.2022 What an awesome picture! These guys have serious style (I really wish I could rock heart-shaped sunnies!)
23.01.2022 Thunderbirds are GO! Print rashie & swim nappy set... one of the coolest ways to stay sun safe this summer. @ourpeachylife
23.01.2022 Trying to move a huge rock with only a tiny plastic shovel & your bare hands... that’s kinda how I’ve felt for a lot of this week! Hopefully actually achieving anything will be easier next week...
21.01.2022 Anyone else feeling summery yet?!
21.01.2022 Which face are you pulling about today?! (or something else?!) drop me an emoji to sum it up below @velvetskyphoto
21.01.2022 Do your kids spend hours in the pool? Then need swimmers that last. Ours are ultra chlorine resistant and will see you through all summer (even these that last ten months that we get in Queensland!)and beyond. #chlorineresistant #swimwear #kidsswimwear #togs #kidsbathers #girlsswimmers #boysswimwear
20.01.2022 Plastic for Christmas? If it’s our recycled swimwear (made from post consumer waste like plastic bottles and old fishing nets) then I vote yes! Get your orders in now to ensure the size & prints you’re after for the big day.
20.01.2022 Without a pool or parks this little guy is having to find other ways to burn off all his crazy energy. So far he’s taken to a zoom kids yoga class and pe with @thebodycoach Joe Wicks (live each weekday morning in the uk at 9am) which is a thirty minute HIIT session designed to get kids and their grown ups moving. We watch on you tube the following day. What are your littlies doing to stay active in lockdown?
19.01.2022 Looking for a super cute harlequin print swimsuit with ice creams? Here you go! And this little beauty now goes up to size 5... @lemonfolkphoto
16.01.2022 So there you are, 36 weeks & three days pregnant, single parenting a 2yo while your partner is on the other side of the country (a 5 hour flight away). Happily getting on with it because statistically only 5% years of babies come before the 34 week mark. And then your waters break. Yep, this is how this one’s birth story starts. Not a bit like I expected & nor was the rest of how it played out! Did your babies arrive before you expected, or were you giving them the hurry up t...o vacate after the 40 week mark? @velvetskyphoto #birthstory #earlybaby #mumlifeaustralia #mumlife
14.01.2022 One huge upside of lockdown has been that, with zero other playmate options, the kids are actually playing together. I mean, they also can’t stand each other half the time as well, but now, sometimes, there is calm playing together. For brief spells. It could be an age thing, but I really think it’s an iso thing. Anyone else finding their kids seem closer?

13.01.2022 Hey guys! I’m still here! I’ve just been so slack at posting & all things that haven’t been craft or baking or home workouts (yep, living all the iso stereotypes to the full over here). I think like lots of us I’m slowly starting to emerge from my lockdown bubble & while at first I was desperate to get back out there, after a couple of weeks at home the idea of going back to life as it was before didn’t hold much appeal, so I’m trying to forge out a new normal. One that that ...lets me keep some of the best bits of the slow at home living I’ve gotten used to (more walks, more talking & playing) and yet adding in a few more good people & coffee shop coffee & the odd boot camp. It’s probably going to take a while before I even begin to think about exactly what/how/where Mermaids and Astronauts will grow this year ready to hit summer 20/21, but I just wanted to say thank you for sticking around & checking in on us and if there’s anything you want to see over here, now’s probably a great time to have your say! Niki x @kylie.plunkett
13.01.2022 Hey I’m still here! I’ve been a bit quiet over on socials as there’s a lot going on at the minute that means I’m getting a waaay less opportunity to post... but the website is open 24/7 if you’re heading anywhere with littles you want to be the best dressed in the beach and we’ll be back with more good things soon! X @velvetimages_bris
12.01.2022 Well, if nothing else in this crazy upside down time I’m glad I follow so many amazing education/activity accounts so schools possibly closing isn’t too daunting... (totally is for both resources reasons and so much more but I’m ignoring it for now to stay sane). I’m going to add a tag to my next few posts for one if the many fabulous places I go to for little kids activities to keep us busy when we’re not at the beach/pool so if you’re stuck at home or find yourself so in the coming months pop back and tap the images for ideas as you need them. First up is @my_creative_box a totally fabulous craft & education box that both my 2yo & 5yo LOVE. We save lots of the resources to re visit and each box comes with a really useful guide to step you through every activity and give you ideas on how to extend them or the theme in general.
10.01.2022 There’s been a real change in the weather here in Queensland over the last few days & we seem to have moved directly from trackies to togs overnight. 11 years here & I still get thrown by the lack of any transitional seasons to sort out how to dress... though after sweltering through a week of school picks ups in long pants I’ve come to the conclusion it might be shorts & dresses time! via @pinterest
09.01.2022 The Hear Rosie Roar sunsuit is fully lined so it feels great on (my models tell me, I’m not going to try & get into one!) @lemonfolkphoto
09.01.2022 We’re getting low in a few sizes and prints so if you’ve got your heart set on something for your minis for Christmas make sure you get your orders in. First in, best dress at the beach ! Niki x
08.01.2022 That’s right guys - sale time! As part of the @buyfromsmall challenge we have a massive 50% off across our whole range until midnight on Sunday - just in time for you to add swimming (in style) to your home school schedules Use the code BUYFROMSMALL at checkout #stylishbuyfromsmall
07.01.2022 Doll sized swimmers for doll sized babies! Did you know we start at 000? #dollslife #babyswimwear #babyswim #realorfake #babywithstyle
07.01.2022 Ready for a swim? Our super chlorine resistant swimwear will last you allll summer & beyond. We make it tough. As tough as all those kids already braving the pool!
07.01.2022 1, 2, 3, more? How many kids do you have & how did you know you were ‘done’? (Asking for a friend who has a 6yo, a 3yo and may well be pushed over the edge by another, but, babies ). #siblingslove #familytravel #kidsswimwear #babiesbabiesbabies
07.01.2022 What an interesting earth day it was yesterday. With so much stopped & changed we’re really getting to see the impact our actions have and how much we can change things. I know there’s changes I’ll make as we move towards a new normal on the other side of the current chaos... in particular about how/why/where I travel and I’m sure that’s true for a lot of people. On a smaller scale being careful about what I need to shop for has meant I’m taking more time to look at ‘where, how & what it’s made with’ when it comes to the products I’m picking & doing these comparisons has made me really feel proud of the Australian made, recycled products that we offer.
06.01.2022 Hi guys, it’s been a while since I put my face on here so this is me and my two kids Abe & Bette (who you’ll see much more of on the grid since they are my main models!). Tonight as part of the @buyfromsmall Insta challenge (well 2 days ago but I’m well behind the ball here this week - see my last post!) I’ve been tasked with sharing five facts about myself so here they are: 1. I love cereals. I’d eat them for breakfast lunch and dinner if I could! But not just one. I like a... cereal cocktail 2. I make an awesome apricot bran loaf thanks to my grandma who used to have a bakery and is the most amazing baker. 3. When I first emigrated to Australia I didn’t know anyone in Brissy so if Sean was working away for a while, I’d check into a backpackers and just pretend to be travelling and hang out with strangers for the weekend. (I met some great people this way!) 4. All of our M&A patterns for the rash sets are based on my mum’s original cardboard patterns - she was a clothing designer from waaay back and I still have all of her card cut outs from them... & she spelt astronauts wrong on them 5. I can do 60 burpees in 2 minutes (but watch this space, I intend to use lockdown to improve on that!!) #stylishbuyfromsmall
05.01.2022 Twins! Before I had kids I thought twins seemed like a smart life plan. You got two kids and only had to be pregnant once. They had a ready made playmate which (surely) made your life easier. They were always at the same stage/class/time activity which must be pretty convenient. Then I had a kid. And the idea of having two take up your body space & lung capacity, the idea of more than me newborn or toddler to deal with... well. I couldn’t imagine having had one coping with a ...brother or sister as well, let alone two with the same needs & demands competing for your time. Multiple mums - you guys are rockstars. What’s the best and hardest thing about multiples? #twins #mumsofmultiples #kidsswimwear #thunderbird
05.01.2022 Still one of my favourite prints (& foods!)
04.01.2022 Even from being super teeny kids notice stuff! That’s why we make our prints like we do. We take what they love, make it stylish & put it on their swimmers so they want to wear them. Because when was the last time your two year old was excited about dressing in block taupe?!
03.01.2022 Are you ok? . Today is the first I’ve really taken any time to think about how I’m feeling in all of the current chaos. A few days ago I signed up to a five day Instagram challenge with @buyfromsmall and the lovely @roberta.fairbanks and even though I’ve seen the emails and and known I should really get organised and get posting I haven’t been able to. Everything beyond daily survival has been put on the back burner as it all seems just so overwhelming right now. I’m trying ...to forget next week - when my husband returns to wards where he’s a 3rd year med student and he’ll be in the thick of it. He’s been on a study week and it’s taken until now for me to acknowledge that next week, home alone with a 2yo and a 5yo and as the person that will also need to support him through what he’s about to see and experience is going to be hard. But also I’m starting to realise too that a big part of coping with that for me will be really looking after myself so I have the energy and the strength to do it. So I’m eating well and I’m going to bed early and I’m learning to exercise at home (but wow, it’s easier at the gym with a crèche ). . How about you guys? I know that a lot of you will be home with littlies and that there will be a lot of you worried about work/finances. Are you ok? And what do you do to help you cope when things are tough? See more
03.01.2022 She’ll be three soon, but the ice cream swimsuit is still her favourite (she’s gone up a couple of sizes since this one!). Which do you like best?
03.01.2022 Happy Easter! Hope you find a deserted beach to hang out on for a while. X
02.01.2022 I can’t believe this picture is from two whole years ago. Still one of my favourite m&a captures @ryleigh_and_ella
01.01.2022 My great grandfather was a deep sea diver.... seems like being ok with being underwater is a family trait. Both kids definitely spend way more time under the surface when they’re in the pool, diving for treasure or pretending to be mermaids .
01.01.2022 Be that a realisation about your own lack of understanding or your magnificent ability to be a part of vital change... I think many of us are learning a lot about ourselves and our world this year and in the hardest most heartbreaking ways. I post on here so infrequently to jump onboard with the blackout squares didn’t sit right with me. Nor did saying nothing. So tonight I just wanted to acknowledge that my eyes, ears & heart are open and I’m here reading, considering, hoping & hurting along with the rest of the world. Thank you to those who have shared where I can start with reading, watching & listening so I can do better on both a personal & professional level. Niki x
24.12.2021 Siblings... We’ve just started a three day lockdown here in Brisbane & as usual my kids are in disagreement about things. One kid is delighted (no school!) the other horrified (no ballet!) Does anyone have siblings that are alike?!

02.11.2021 Not exactly twinning but definitely complimentary! I get some awesome pictures of my guys in this combo. Which is handy as most of the time they dress pretty questionably - if you’ve seen my recent reels you’ll know they favour mismatched and highly flammable. #kidsfashiontrends #twinningthursday #brotherandsistergoals #howtogetgoodpictureofkids @velvetskyphoto
22.10.2021 Sand Ahoy! Print... I can’t see it without the amazing children’s book Grandad’s Island popping into my head because Grandson Syd shouting ‘Land Ahoy! is where I got the inspiration for its name. If you haven’t read Grandad’s Island check it out. It’s written by the fantastic @benjidavies who also did the beautiful illustrations. We absolutely love his books. @velvetskyphoto
16.10.2021 Imagination - life is your creation! (Yeah, sorry about getting Aqua stuck in your head!) but have you ever noticed how many different games and scenarios kids create when their toys are limited or taken out of their usual context? At home we have a million cars hardly played with, but take two to the beach and they’ll play for ages. Racing, jumping or zooming them off rocks... I’ve also found just taking a handful of little dinosaurs kept them busy too - they were buried an...d found, had conversations and even served as candles on a giant sand birthday cake. And by ditching the traditional bucket and spade and grabbing a few old neglected toys to chuck in the nappy bag, I find they attract friends too as other kids gravitate to join in the fun. What toys have you taken to the beach that have been hits? #playbasedlearning #imaginationiseverything #beachplay #beachgames @ourpeachylife
