25.01.2022 Registration for the Autumn 2021 season is now open! Click the link below to head straight to the registration form. A few quick details on the changes happening this season. Firstly, this is the first season where Basketball Victoria will be charging player registration directly. In the past this was part of the team registration, however that also meant that if you played in more than one team (for example, you played with Bulls but also played during the week, or played fo...r Pacers), you were technically paying your insurance multiple times. The newer system is a bit more transparent. Players under 18 will pay $25 upfront, and players 18 and over will pay $39. This registration lasts for 12 months, so covers you for 2 seasons with Bulls. Registration costs have also risen. This is because door entry fees have been dropped (to avoid handling cash during COVID), and instead the scoresheet fees that we the club pay have risen to compensate. We've opted to raise our fees in two stages, one starting this season, and then a second increase in the second half of next year. However, you'll find that the cost to you in the first half of 2021 is actually less than registration fees from last season. Registration is now $220, but you'll be saving a minimum of $30 in door fees, so you're actually saving money! As always, we're collecting a $50 deposit upfront when you register, with the remainder of your fees due by the start of the season. You can also opt to complete a direct debit arrangement and pay the remaining $170 over the 4 months of the regular season. With the Basketball Victoria fee, this means for most people, their cost at the point of registration will be $75 ($50 for Bulls and $25 for Basketball Victoria), with our 18 and over players being $89. If you have already paid your Basketball Victoria fee with another club, then you'll just need to pay your $50 deposit. Registration will close on January 14th unless we hit capacity sooner, so don't leave it until the last minute! https://www.playhq.com/basketball-victoria/register/501919

25.01.2022 Introducing 16b1.... they hard a hard game today. Keep ur heads high boys, listen and learn from ur coach and you will do great this season.

25.01.2022 The WCBA have released an official letter to all clubs regarding Coronavirus. Essentially this mirrors our own update earlier today, and adds a provision around quarantine if you have been exposed to anyone who either has the virus or have been to one of the listed countries in the last 2 weeks. Please have a read through it and let us know if you have any questions.

24.01.2022 Hi families, As you all should know and have hopefully re-registered or welcome to our new registrations so far. There are still spots available and some of the closed groups are being reopened for now but be quick as we are filling up fast. There are plans being put together to start some skills training nights (COVID pending) for all our age groups to ensure that we put players into teams that suit their abilities and ages. Please be patient as the committee gets these even...ings together so we can make sure we maximise the times we have available to do these sessions and hopefully start building teams right. I know it has been a frustrating season for some and I apologise for this. I ask that if you wish to coach or can help out in any way that you contact the [email protected] and let us know. I will be calling on current and new coaches to come on down and help with the skills evenings to enhance everyone's chances of building our teams in our club. As they say many hands make light work and the committee needs YOUR help to keep this club going and building from strength to strength. I will pass on more information as it comes to hand on covid restrictions and the skills sessions soon. Thanks, Darren President Mernda Bulls Basketball Club "Grab Life by the Horns"

24.01.2022 The WCBA have released an update today about the future of the 2020 competition. Their letter is attached, however the high level summary is that the current plan is that the current season will resume in September, and it will be a continuation of the current season. Finals will be played in December. The Spring 2020 season essentially won’t happen this year. Teams will remain as is when the season resumes, and any players already registered to a team will be able to continue playing in that team even if they normally would have aged out of their age division. Once we have more details we’ll let you know, but essentially for the moment it looks like we won’t be taking the court again until September.

23.01.2022 81 didn't get the win today, but as you can see from the photo, it was still smiles all round! Well done boys. We learn just as much from our losses as our wins. Keep on smiling

23.01.2022 Games for this weekend March 14th have been cancelled over health concerns related to Coronavirus. Please share this with as many of our Bulls family as you can so they aware of the cancellation! The decision has been made on advice from Basketball Victoria; we do not have any further information on the future impact of this, and will provide an update as soon as we can. In the meantime, stay safe everyone!

23.01.2022 Basketball Victoria issued an update today regarding COVID-19, and they have suspended all basketball related activities for the next 4 weeks (this includes games and training as well as some other activities). The club will be following their advice, and as such training will now be suspended until after Easter. We're all hoping that this situation is under control by then and we can all return after that but at this stage it's too early to say if that will be possible. We'll keep everyone updated both through TeamApp and here through Facebook as we get more information.

22.01.2022 Basketball Australia dropped some information on their return to play plan. This is primarily focused on the process rather than the actual timing which is still largely up to the government but it’s a good read none the less.

21.01.2022 Basketball returns next year! After nearly a whole year without the sport we all love, the WCBA will be starting their new season at the beginning of February next year. We're currently finalising all the details regarding registering, training and costs, but we'll have it all ready to go soon! As mentioned in the last update, registration cost will be a bit higher next season, but it's largely because the door entry fees are now being built into the team registration. So hig...her upfront cost, but no more door fees on Saturday, meaning the days of having to find cash to get into basketball are done! And of course, Bulls still will have the ability to pay off fees via direct debit across the season so you can still spread the cost out over a few months rather than needing it all upfront. We're also looking into the recently announced government sporting vouchers to see how it's going to work and how Bulls can be involved in the program. As soon as we've got more details to share we'll post them up here!

21.01.2022 The WCBA have changed their website URL, you can now find them at https://wcba.org.au/. Unfortunately with lockdown continuing in Victoria we don’t have any dates to share at the moment, all we can do is encourage everyone to follow the guidelines on lockdown and social distancing and do your part to help get us through the second wave!

21.01.2022 10B5 didn't get the win Saturday, but they played as a team and did a great job passing the ball to their teammates. You boys are coming along very well. Keep it up!!! #GoBulls

18.01.2022 Great win by this mob today. Played hard every step of the way. Kendra even put her face in the line and is going to have beautiful black eye!!!

18.01.2022 Good morning Bulls. We’ve had some news this week, something I suspect most of us have known was coming, but we now have confirmation, the season isn’t going back this year. Assuming the restrictions continue to lift the plan is to return next year at the usual time in late Jan/early Feb. We’ll have some details out soon about what that means both for registration for next season and for refunds for the season earlier this year (our treasurer is working out what the actual co...st of the season ended up being per player and then anyone who had paid above that will have the option to have the difference refunded, or can just have the balance transferred to next season’s fees). There are a couple of changes coming next season related to COVID and the missed time this year which we’ll go into more detail with soon, but the main one to be aware of for now is all venues next season are going cashless (to avoid handling money during COVID). That means the entry fees for all the venues will be scrapped, but the scoresheet fees will be rising to offset this. We’re still working out what it means, but just be aware there will be a fee increase next season. We want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to return to sport when the option becomes available, so once registration does open back up, if you have any worries, please reach out to us! We’ll do our best to work with you to bring you back with the rest of our Bulls family. It’s been a hard year, but hopefully we’re now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Stay safe everyone!

18.01.2022 14B1 walking away with the win today. Great Game by the boys today

18.01.2022 Good afternoon families, At this stage there is no effect on community sport that I can find. Training will be on. I ask that all parents and children over 12 please wear masks as per the government directive. If you have been to any of the indicated spots then please get tested and isolate until negative result. Coaches can coach without masks but must out them on once finished. Thanks, Darren

18.01.2022 Merry Christmas to our entire Bulls family! It’s been a tricky time for all of us, but hopefully 2021 brings a much better year. Enjoy your Christmas, and we’ll see you all in the new year!

18.01.2022 === Round 9 / U10 Finals Round 1 - May 29th 2021 === This round has been cancelled as a result of the recently announced lockdown in Victoria. The WCBA are currently reviewing their options and once we have an update we'll share it.

18.01.2022 Training for Thursday is back on. Please make sure you check in on the QR code. Again a reminder that if you are there spectating please make sure you are wearing your mask unless you have an exemption.... Coaches, I don't expect you to wear a mask whilst training as it is too hard to converse and coach the kids. Thanks, Darren President

17.01.2022 Hi Families, training can still go ahead of you so wish. Games will be cancelled this weekend. I am unsure how this will affect finals and once known I will post here and team app to let you all know. For now stay safe and hopefully we can get back to it soon. Thanks, Darren... President Mernda Bulls Basketball Club "Grab Life by the Horns" See more

16.01.2022 Good morning Bulls! Just a reminder that our AGM is being held on December 17th. All positions on the executive committee are up for nomination (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Director of Coaching), and we also will be looking for someone new to look after social media. If you’re interested in nominating for one of the positions, you’ve got until December 9th to get your form back to our current secretary Mary to be added to the voting ballot. We do know ...at this stage that our current President Darren is opting to step down at the AGM. Darren was our Vice President, and took over as President from Daryl last year, and has taken the helm during one of the strangest times in the club’s history during the COVID pandemic, but unfortunately due to work commitments will not be able to return as President in 2021. Thanks Darren for everything you’ve done for the Bulls in the strange year that was 2020! But what this means is that when we’re looking for people to step up, we mean it! COVID meant we never were able to nominate a new Vice President, and with our current President also finishing his tenure, that’s two crucial positions at the Bulls that need filling. So if you’ve ever been interested in becoming more involved with the club, we need you!

15.01.2022 Well done Bulls 12B6 on this weeks win, great to see our training is starting to pay off in our games. Keep up the good work. 14 to 7

14.01.2022 We've reluctantly decided to make the call to cancel training for this week (full details are on the TeamApp link attached). Currently this only applies to this week but we'll review this during the week and make a call for next week closer to the date.

13.01.2022 Winter Season game 5- Saturday 29th February 2020 Mernda Bulls 12B3 (44) vs Boomers 12B12 (44)... So saddened, that I missed this epic game. I was thinking of the boys and had every confidence that the Team would do very well. My post of the game comes from several people's feedback, many thanks Darren, Rob and Eric. Eric's commentary language of the game, with some input from Rob. The Boomers jumped on us from the tip and scored a quick 9 pts. Our boys came back on a 12 pt run to give them a 3 pt edge. Both Teams played a back to back game with the first half ending 17-20 in favour of the Boomers. The opposition lengthened their lead to 6 pts in the opening minutes of the second half. More back to back buckets from our boys to clench the lead by 1 pt. Our boys continued their dominance stretching the lead to 11 pts with 4 mins of play to go. The Team lost their momentum which allowed the Boomers to bring the score back to level peggings. Both Teams traded goals to even out the game in the end to 44 all. Coach Darren's feedback, the boys played really well as a Team. They had many good passes, great play between each other and some really strong defence work. A strong game was played against a really tough opposition. Thanks for all your feedback! #WeAreBulls

12.01.2022 Dear Bulls Families, As you would all have heard, the lockdown has been extended for another week. So what does this mean for basketball?... There will not be any training over the next week as the venue is still closed. Games will not be played this week or next week and we will need to await the announcement from Basketball Victoria for when we can re-start our season. WCBA has decided that when we restart we will play the last round of the season before going into finals. The finals will now be played over 2 weeks instead of the usual 3 with 1v4 and 2v3 and the winners playing off in the GF the following week. Finals will likely be played prior to the start of the second season thus shortening the next season by a couple of weeks. I hope this answers any questions out there on the end of this season and the start of next season. Stay safe and we can't wait to get back to basketball soon. Thanks, Darren President Mernda Bulls Basketball Club "Live Life By the Horns"

11.01.2022 GREAT NEWS BASKETBALL IS BACK ON. Hi Bulls Family, It has been confirmed that basketball will be back on Saturday. The games this week are the times posted for last week.... Please ensure that you wear a mask if coaching/spectating or over the age of 12 and not playing on the court. If you have an exemption then make sure you have something to say that you are exempt. Thursday training is still awaiting confirmation from YMCA to use the courts. Thanks, Darren President Mernda Bulls Basketball Club "Grab Life by the horns!"

11.01.2022 Registration for the upcoming Spring 2021 season will be opening to everyone tomorrow, Monday May 24th at midday. You can get to the appropriate registration link for your age divisions using the page below. Registration will remain open until Friday June 18th at 5pm, however we may close specific age divisions prior to that cutoff if we feel we’re not going to get enough players for an additional team or don't have the capacity to support more teams. Registrations are proces...sed in the order we receive them so the best way to ensure you don’t miss out is to register early! If you have any queries regarding teams, please send them to our coaching coordinators via email at [email protected].

11.01.2022 We’re watching the Dan Andrew’s press conference like we imagine a lot of our Bulls are. This most likely will result in games being cancelled this Saturday and training being cancelled for most of next week, however once we get confirmation from the WCBA (for games) and the YMCA (for training) we will post an update here and on TeamApp. Stay safe everyone, hopefully this is just a blip in our return to sport!

10.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I have been informed by WCBA that all games are cancelled as per the Government direction for this weekend. The aim is to push this weekend games to next week (20th Feb). We are not sure if this is going to change the grading or anything as yet and await more confirmation over the weekend/next week.... Training is also cancelled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday definitely and we will await further announcements for Thursday. Sorry for the bad news and we will keep you up to date as we learn more. Thanks, Darren President Mernda Bulls Basketball Club "Grab Life by the Horns!"

09.01.2022 Morning Bulls. By now we assume you may have heard today’s update from the Victorian Government regarding some COVID restrictions kicking in from 6pm tonight due to the new cases occurring in the Northern Suburbs. This is around our side of town, so everyone please take a look at the list of outbreak sites and if you’ve been at any of them during the times listed get tested and isolate. We’re currently seeking advice as to what these restrictions mean for training and games. We don’t have an update just yet, but as soon as we do we’ll post it both here and TeamApp.

09.01.2022 Good morning Bulls! We've got some good news today, we're beginning to plan our return to play! The dates still need to be finalised as the rollback on restrictions last week threw everyone off a bit, but hopefully in the next month or two we'll be able to return to the court and start training, and ultimately start playing again! Everyone will need to be aware that there is going to be a number of restrictions in place as we start playing again, such as the number of people ...allowed in the venue, keeping track of who is attending sessions to enable contract tracing in the event of an outbreak, and shorter sessions to facilitate cleaning between games. We don't know exactly what this will look like yet but the Bulls will be doing all we can to comply with any and all guidelines we need to to ensure a safe return to sport. However, right now we need to know if you're going to be coming back! The season we started way back in January is going to be continuing when play begins again, so teams are going to remain the same where it's possible to do that. It also means fees will cover both parts of the year, so if you’ve already paid your fees you won’t have to pay again. This is where you all come in! We've put together a really quick confirmation form for you to fill in, just head to the link below, enter the email address you used when you signed up to PlayHQ and confirm if you'll be coming back. Once we know who's returning, we'll be able to start planning what we need to do with our teams. It's been a long break, but we're hoping you're all looking forward to taking to the court again as we are!

09.01.2022 Due to both Whittlesea Council cancelling all events to be held within the area, as well as the new restrictions on gatherings announced by the government, we’re having to postpone our AGM. As soon as a new date is found everyone will be contacted with details.

09.01.2022 This job listing is separate to the previous one. The WCBA are looking for a new office administrator for the Championship program with the Whittlesea Pacers. This is a full time role with a lot of different responsibilities. Please have a read through the job listing attached for more details. Applications close on May 17th.

04.01.2022 In case you missed it on TeamApp, we’ve just posted an update about Coronavirus and it’s impact on our local competition. The short version is right now there is no immediate impact, however the situation is being monitored in case that needs to change. If anyone has any concerns about playing this weekend, please let your coach or team manager know ASAP so the club can take any necessary action for games this weekend. Stay safe everyone!

04.01.2022 Invoices for the Autumn 2021 season started going out today, and we've posted up some answers to the most common questions we've been asked!

04.01.2022 Our friends at the Whittlesea Pacers have opened up their registrations for under 12s for next season! This is for championship, which is the next level up from our domestic competition. You can play in both competitions, so if you’ve never been involved with championship basketball, consider giving it a shot! https://membership.sportstg.com/v5/regoform.cgi

03.01.2022 Great effort today from19B1 hitting the winner in the final seconds of the game.Keep working hard and for each other we will see where this season takes us

03.01.2022 What a game by Bulls 8.4. Playing with only 5 players, they never stopped trying, and came away with the win. Well done everyone And a special mention to Violet who scored her first goal

02.01.2022 Dear Bulls families, Obviously todays news from the Victorian Premier is disappointing. I have been informed today that Mill Park Basketball stadium is not allowed to open and Mernda Central has not been released to open to community groups either. This delays the restart of the season again and I will be meeting with the WCBA later in the month. Once I know more I will announce on these forums to keep you all as informed as I can. Please sign back up if you wish to come back... and if you do not feel safe in having your children return to basketball this year due to the pandemic then I understand and hope that you will feel more comfortable in the new year. I implore that you please take this seriously and do your utmost to follow the governments rulings to hopefully reduce the numbers of this pandemic and get us back to a new normal as soon as possible. I understand the stresses on families being stuck at home and on the children not being able to play sport as I as president face this also. My extended families all live interstate so we have not been able to visit or have our parents visit us since March and now not looking like we will be able to for a lot longer again, so if you can visit you family, do so keeping in mind the social distancing and keeping everyone safe. Please remain safe and healthy both in mind and body and use social media, skype, zoom etc to stay in contact with your family and friends. Regards, Darren Elliott A/President Mernda Bulls
