25.01.2022 Congratulations to our Premiers’ Reading Challenge participants. MPPS received a special video from our local MP, Danielle Green, congratulating our students on completing the challenge. We will place this message on our website for our community to also enjoy. Students were very proud to receive their certificates. Special thanks to Gabby Furst for coordinating the challenge and to teachers and families for supporting so many of our students to complete so much reading! Danielle Green

23.01.2022 This week at MPPS we placed a special focus on Naidoc Week. The theme for this year’s Naidoc Week is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. It is important for students to understand the rich and long history of our country and to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. https://www.merndaparkps.vic.edu.au/naidoc-week-2020.html

20.01.2022 At MPPS we AGAIN say a STRONG NO to violence against women. This story is far too close to home for all of us with the tragedy happening in Mernda!

18.01.2022 Today the preps created kindness rainbows to celebrate World Kindness Day. They enjoyed discussing and writing different ways to be kind. Happy world kindness day!

14.01.2022 Today in SLC, we made poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day. We learnt about the fallen soldiers of World War 1 and why it is important to remember.

14.01.2022 This afternoon Sandy from the City of Whittlesea installed the ‘Collectively Caring for Climates Artworks’ which were created in partnership between The City of Whittlesea and our Senior MPPS students. If you are walking past the front of our school follow the trail. COVID safely of course!

12.01.2022 What a beautiful NAIDOC Week activity by our preps ... we love the finished product!

11.01.2022 Today the preps engaged in an outdoor STEAM challenge which involved them creating tin foil boats strong enough to hold teddy counters. The preps enjoyed discussing reasons why things float/sink using the language heavy and light. They discovered that the more teddies they placed in their boats the heavier and heavier they became... until they sank! The preppies also enjoyed our flexible and adaptable learning spaces and of course cooling their hands in the water on this very hot day.

10.01.2022 Yesterday, the preps engaged in a language experience where they created echidnas out of modelling clay and craft match sticks. PLC students brainstormed adjectives such as pointy, jagged, sharp, spiky, brave and fierce to use in their information writing about echidnas this week.

07.01.2022 The preps have been learning about Australian animals as part of our integrated studies topic this term. Today they enjoyed a wild explorers incursion presented by the Melbourne Zoo. The preppies learnt about lizards, stick insects and echidnas before enjoying a wild life scavenger hunt in our outdoor prep playground area.

05.01.2022 Yesterday in PLC we explored how we can use money to purchase items, using Australian coins. Before we could visit our PLC shop we needed to create a shopping list of things we might like to buy.

04.01.2022 SLC is learning facts about the natural wonders of Australia. Together, we will write informative writing pieces based on The Great Barrier Reef, The Simpson Desert, The Murray River and Uluru. We traveled to these destinations to experience what they feel like, look like and sound like. SLC is super excited to get their pencils to paper!
