20.01.2022 #MerryChristmas What a big, fantastic and emotional year 2018 has been! Weve seen incredible acts of courage and bravery in our So Brave Model Ambassadors agai...n this year. Not just on their paint days either - but also in sharing their stories, speaking in public, and really coming out of their comfort zones to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Youre all amazing!! Weve travelled across the country - to all states and territories and we are so thrilled to finally get to WA and Tasmania! To all our fabulous volunteers - thank you so very much for all you have done to make this year such a fabulous success. The project has now donated $115000 to cancer research and support services!! We look forward to creating an even greater impact, working together to continue to carry out the legacies of our beautiful sisters Nyrie and Ria and to continue to work towards a day when there are no more stories to tell. Thank you to everyone whos bought a Calendar, come along to an event, shared our stories, likes our posts and taken the #breastaware pledge. 2019 is going to be a HUGE year for So Brave and we cant wait to share everything we have in store with you. 17.01.2022 The first lump I had found at 35 in my right breast which turned out to be benign. I remember the relief from hearing my breast surgeon telling me then that it ...was ok. I also remember seeing a young woman in the empty waiting room with her partner and mum. I got the sense that her news wasnt positive. I left the building that day like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I was 39 when I found what I thought was an identical second lump in my left breast. I never dreamed Id be back in that same waiting room 4 years later but this time wearing her shoes. I wasnt even going to bother getting the second lump checked. It felt identical to my other one so I self-diagnosed it as nothing. I felt fine, a bit tired but I dont know any parent that isnt. Six weeks went by and a chance visit to the GP for something else and I casually mentioned it and my previous benign lump. She sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound and it was then that I had a feeling that things werent great. The ultrasound technician stopped chatting and looking me in the eye. She knew but couldnt tell me. My GP didnt confirm my fears either but booked me in to see the breast surgeon a few days later at 8.45am Monday 26th October. 15.01.2022 Looking for treatment photos for So Brave, I came across this from my very first chemo admission. I had never noticed that Millie had drawn tears coming from my eyes. Actually Im not even sure whether they are my eyes or hers. It was such a horrible, scary time for everyone, let alone for a 10 year old. The tears are gone, but glimpses of the trauma remain. Research has shown that people with cancer need support from friends. A great reminder on R U OK Day, that the complexities of a cancer diagnosis and treatment, are just as often emotional and not only physical. 03.01.2022 When I was diagnosed, one of the things I was so grateful for was that it was happening to me not the kids. My mum had to watch me go through it all. She was there through every chemo session, radiation, keeping my family going when I couldnt. She waited 8 long hours to hear that I was out of surgery. It was so tough on her but her support never waivered. Im sorry cancer put you through all that Mum. You are the greatest

Its also the month I was diagnosed - Oct 26th 2015 26 is also the number of weeks I had chemotherapy. 25 is the number of radiation treatments. 4 is the number of surgeries. 01.01.2022 Treatment for breast cancer is an ongoing beast. Two and a half years post diagnosis, and a year and a half since being declared cancer free, Im back for more surgery - risk reduction removal of my ovaries and tubes. It also means I can stop my monthly visits to the GP for ovary suppression injections. Still have another 8 years of my glorious bone aching medication but its a small price to pay to still be here. Thats why its so important to know your body and be aware of your health #sobrave #sobraveproject #youngwomengetbreastcancertoo
