20.01.2022 We've had a few enquiries via Facebook and over the phone recently asking why we don't fog for mosquitoes (and what we're doing about it). In a nutshell: We fee...l fogging is harmful to some wildlife, ineffective and expensive. We bait instead. For fogging to be effective, it needs to be done at dawn or dusk (mosquitoes have to be airborne at the time of the fogging) and because it targets adult flying mosquitoes - not the larvae or the wrigglers - it needs to be done every 2-3 days to attack the new adult mosquitoes. Fogging is also indiscriminate - it will kill the airborne mosquitoes, but it will also kill bees and butterflies; it will kill tadpoles, frogs and fish wherever the fog settles on water; and it can be counter-productive because it can also harm the animals that feed on mosquitoes. So, you kill off the adult mosquitoes, but 3 days later you've got the babies all grown up - except the things that would normally keep mosquito levels down by eating them have also been affected. For us to start fogging, we would be required to hold public consultations and tell you each time we were spraying so that you can choose to avoid being in it, if you have fishponds you would need to cover them until the fog dissipates, and if you keep bees in town you'd need to move your hives out of the townsite. What we do instead is to engage Local Pest Control to carry out mosquito baiting in our drains. The baiting targets the wrigglers. We've been baiting every 3 weeks since September 2014, and Local Pest Control were due to begin another round of baiting today. Baiting is more targeted, less harmful and exceedingly more cost effective. We also need you to help with the mosquito control in your own backyards and businesses. Mosquitoes can breed in as little as one teaspoon of warm, stagnant water. We need to tackle these collectively as a community to be able to stop mosquitoes at the source. Our Environmental Health Officer intends to visit all the businesses in the industrial estate about the issue in the coming weeks and will be happy to help you identify breeding hotspots on your land; Local Pest Control (9041 2018) are also available to help. They are heading for our sister park in Walpole to help out for a little bit and will be back here in March for a little while as well. 18.01.2022 The Meckering earthquake was 52 years ago today at 10.58am. Luckily it was a public holiday which potentially saved lives. It had a magnitude of 6.5 (recalculat...ed from 6.8). A very memorable or rather forgettable day for many. This railway line is a reminder of the power of nature. 14.01.2022 How beautiful is our Wheatbelt region?

14.01.2022 The "Wheatbelt Way" is named after the region which is named for the wheat that is grown, which was the main agricultural product in the early history of Wester...n Australia's development - today many other crops are also produced. Sometimes it is a little confusing as such a large area of inland Western Australia is known as "the Wheatbelt" (42 Shire’s in total make up the Wheatbelt region)! The Wheatbelt Way Drive Trail covers the Shire of Wyalkatchem, Shire of Koorda, Shire of Dowerin, Shire of Mt Marshall, Shire of Mukinbudin, Shire of Nungarin, Shire of Trayning and Shire of Westonia. The Wheatbelt is arid with low levels of underground water, making agriculture largely reliant on the rainfall. Right now the landscape is turning from green to gold with all the wheat crops ripening and will soon be ready to harvest. We can't wait to share with you pictures of the upcoming harvest! #mywheatbelt

Whether you are traveling now or in the future, we want you to know that your safety and well-being are our first priority. In recent weeks, we have increased the frequency of our daily cleaning schedule and have also enhanced the dee...p cleaning of our facilities, including sanitising high touch areas such as camp kitchens, play areas, room keys, guest & common areas as well as our reception area. We have also added additional hand sanitizer and cleansing wipes in our facilities for use by both our team members and visitors and are ensuring our team has the information they need to stay healthy.
