25.01.2022 Little pig, Little pig... As an extension of building our own 'home' we have built our knowledge of building design by listening to the story ' The Three Little Pigs, an Architectural Tale' by Steven Guarnaccia. The story describes three famous architects and their signature styles, and has sparked discussions around the strength of building materials. We used the magnatiles and figurines to act out the story, discussing different designs, taking turns, and co-operatin...g with one another. Using the lego we then worked collaboratively to construct a house, discussing the characteristics of our own homes, and how the different features keep us safe, such as railings, and how others protect us from the weather, such as verandahs from the garage to the house. We have purchased some new lego sets, with pets and flowers, ready to continue this interest next week. 22.01.2022 What a beautiful way to spend the last day of the term, barefoot in the winter sun Today we picked some of our blood oranges, the children noticed that they were dirty and decided that they needed washing. Throughout this they discussed the differences between the oranges at the supermarket and our own oranges, we counted them, smelt them, spoke about their shape and texture, and one of the children lined some up on the path to find out what would ...happen if he rode over them. He was NOT disappointed! 21.01.2022 This morning we followed an interest in baby dolls and role play. First we set up a home, discussing the characteristics of our own homes, and the purposes of different rooms. Once we had finished there was a request for a washing machine to clean all of the 'stinky baby's' clothes, our washing machine buckled under pressure and required some repairs; teamwork, problem solving and resourcefulness. We then drew some designs of houses, and constructed a cardboard house with #...makedo connectors. We reflected on the items in our own homes and decorated the walls, drawing a TV and mirror. Once we had moved in, M dressed her baby in a 'chapel dress' and went to church, while the others got busy decorating for a birthday party.
