23.01.2022 Last night Rob Canning celebrated taking out BOTH Brewer of Show AND Best Novice in Westgate's Stout Extravaganza. His Wood Aged Stout pipped Nick Jackson at the post, winning by 1 point. Naturally Mashers dominated, taking out Club of Show once again and retaining the trophy (which is going straight to Rob's pool room).... @fuddbutter @westgatebrewers

20.01.2022 Mashers get out and find it! @twocitiesbeer from our very own @ferment_al . Mmm. Hop aroma is high and intense for a pale, the way I like it. It’s super fresh. Grapefruit. Citrus. Background dank. Hop flavour is very stone fruit. I get no caramel (good) and a really nice biscuit finish. Proper solid pale

14.01.2022 Hi all! This year's competition has obviously been a little different to others. Previously we've had the deadline for online entries and drop offs at the same time. This year we extended the drop off deadline, but not the online entries deadline. We've realised we haven't communicated this, so we wanted to ask: are there still people who plan on creating new entries on the webpage? If you are hoping to, please drop a comment below and we'll look into reopening entries for a... short window. The deadline for drop off remains Sat 12st, 11am.

14.01.2022 If you have an interest in Porters & Stouts, Westgate Brewers Stout Extravaganza is in need of judges. Categories 8, 9 and 10 of the updated AABC 2017 Guidelines are up for judging, and this year sees the introduction of a Specialty Category for those brewers who like to experiment. For comp details, see https://www.westgatebrewers.org/stout-extravaganza/ The BJCP registered competition will be held at The Local, 22-24 Bay Street, Port Melbourne, on Sunday, 1st of July.... The venue is a short walk from the end of the 109 light rail line, or there are buses that come down Bay Street. Meals will be available downstairs from 12:00. Judging will start at 1:00pm and should be complete for presentations before 6:00pm. The aim is 11 tables of 3 judges each to ensure they can get through the entries in good time. 10.01.2022 The 2021 Mashers IPA comp is now open for entries! One thing to note about this year’s comp: Because of the potential for restrictions due to Covid we’ve made the decision to cap entries. Overall we’ll be accepting 144 entries and each category will be capped at 24 with individuals able to enter up to two beers. We’re also going to need judges and stewards on the day. We definitely need BJCP qualified judges but we're also keen for judges without experience who are willing gi...ve it a go. 09.01.2022 Results are in for the Yarra Valley Brewers Belgian Beerfest 2018 held in Lilydale last Saturday. Congratulations to Todd Wade, who came second in the Summer Ales category with his Belgian Pale Ale scoring 74 (out of a possible 100). Congrats, too, to Jeffrey Bell, who came third in the same category, with his Witbier scoring 73.... Shannon Brooks narrowly missed out on 3rd, on countback, in the Dark Coloured Ales category with his Biere de Garde scoring 68. The Merri Mashers were a distant equal second, losing the Best Club Award to Bayside Brewers, who amassed 13 points overall. We got 3 points, as did Yarra Valley, Macedon Ranges, and Melbourne Brewers. Westgate scored 2 points, and Canberra Brewers managed 1 point.

By my count we had 32 brewers tasting and chatting. Plus we welcomed 2 new members! Great night all round. If you're thinking about joining, don't let COVID get in the way! 02.01.2022 UPDATE: Unfortunately we can no longer ask the public to come down and join us on the day. Hey legends. Yeah, we know. SIGH. Good news is though: we’re locked and loaded for judging on Sunday June 13th, with all the original timings of the event and still at the Woodlands.... There may be considerations around density limits, so we’ll adjust our plan as things move forward. From what we know at the moment though, we’re good to go. We HOPE you can all still come for a drink at the venue at 5pm, and prize announcement at 6pm stay tuned for updates on that. The live announcements will definitely be happening on Facebook at 6pm though, so you definitely wont need to miss the live announcements! Judges and stewards have been contacted. If you’re signed up but haven’t seen that check your email. Drop offs have been extended to Saturday June 12 at 11am. Yaass more cold conditioning! So really, that’s all pretty good news.
