23.01.2022 Vale Col Wright - it is a very sad moment when I received the email from Annie Van Herck that Col Wright who ran the Merry Muse with Annie from 1993 to 2001 had... passed away last Friday in Wellington NZ last where he had been living for many years. Col was a wonderful man with a generous spirit and wicked sense of humour. Annie has provided details of Col's funeral and Col's passing will be celebrated by a wake with lots of music and opportunities to speak - old friends may not be able to make it but they may want to send messages. If you want Annie's contact details or details of the funeral please email me at [email protected]. This is a photo of Col and Annie at there Wellington home - taken in 2015 when I enjoyed their tremendous hospitality for a few days.

08.01.2022 Reminder tomorrow Merry Muse Sunday 21 March Baz Cooper and Blackboard - plus Merry Muse Sunday April 11 pre-booking for Shortis and Simpson The Merry Muse will kick off at 4pm Sunday 21 March with Feature act at around 6.15pm Feature act is Baz Cooper. Baz has been playing music for many years in several different genres and this is evident in the solo shows that he now presents. He was meant to be performing shows in the UK now, but Covid intervened and so he is delighted ...to be playing once again at the Merry Muse. For this show he will be introducing some new songs and instrumentals, some having their public debut, but also favourites from his album ‘Mad Woman’s Breakfast’. Baz has been called a ‘musical chameleon’, because of the variety of material in his repertoire, so his shows are never boring! Fiery instrumentals, moving ballads and a touch of humour, it will all be there. Looking forward to seeing regulars and new faces at the Merry Muse -there are some new faces on the blackboard. 07.01.2022 Reminder Merry Muse this Sunday May 9 4pm-7pm The Ten Quid Poms plus blackboard What happens when a retired child carer and a retired materials scientist get together? By 2016 both John Warner and Robin Connaughton had moved to Canberra, and both being assisted passage migrants to Australia, the Ten Quid Poms was born. That’s what. Both John and Robin are very successful writers of folk song and poetry as well as singers and musicians. John has created several themed collec...tions, and the Folk cantata Yarri of Wiradjuri. Songs of his such as Anderson’s Coast and Banners have been widely sung overseas. Together they collaborated to create a collection of songs about the 1960’s NSW steelworks, where Robin had worked for sixteen years. The result is an album We Made the Steel, which has been critically acclaimed in Australia and England. This pair have been performing traditional folk song in all its guises singly and in various groups for over forty years Anything is fair game, politics, work, unions, animals, sea shanties, love, hate, racehorses, whatever. Expect as many original song compositions as traditional ones, sung with scintillating harmonies, unaccompanied or with various instruments.
