"Illegal Actions through widespread threats and market manipulation by the New Car Industry in Australia" Since our la...st video post covering the systematic warranty threats by a lot of new car dealerships and manufacturers we thought it appropriate to clarify and harden our line on this. Since our last video post covering the systematic warranty threats by a lot of new car dealerships and manufacturers we have had a few dealerships call us up. There's a few good guys out there selling new cars and doing the right thing by their customers. But they are a few... Feel Free to post up any good new car dealers you have had dealings with. The ACCC recently passed down more stringent controls on the New Car Manufacturers and Dealerships as a whole. One guess why. - Are you being warned that your vehciles warranty will be void if you service your New Car outside at another repairer? Well Australian Law clearly allows you to take your vehcile to any licensed repairer for service. - Are you being told your New Car Warranty is void due to an accessory you have added to it? Car manufacturers simple cannot deny the legal rights of a new car owner to warranty due to an aftermarket part fitted. When you come to think about it... The fuel we use isn't a Genuine Part so why don't we have our warranty void based on that? Crazy! - Is your New Car having an issue and just out of warranty? Australian Law would most likely deem it to still be under warranty even if the manufacturers warranty has expired. - Fitting an aftermarket accessory to look after your New Car better? Laws in Australia deny the Car Maker the right to void warranty just because you have made a choice to add additional items to your New Car. The past 2-3 years has seen a concerted effort by shonky new car dealerships to scare new car buyers into thinking they cannot do a thing to their new car without risking their warranty. This is wrong and illegal. If you are having an issue with warranty and your New Car we advise you contact your state Consumer Affairs dept. and or the ACCC. So why are we taking such a vocal line on this? We are but a small family business yet everyday we cover probably a dozen calls from new car owners asking for help. Help because:- - They have been threatened with warranty void if they fit any accessories to their new car. - They have been threatened with warranty void if they take their new car to their local mechanic for service. - They have been told that dirty fuel has damaged their Injection system. This is a crazy one. The fuel system is protected by the manufacturers fuel filter. Does that mean it's not fit for purpose if dirty fuel gets past it! Yeeks! - They have been told they are just a week out of warranty so 'bad luck'. - and the list goes on....... These are just a few examples and we would love you to post up your story here. Feel free to do so. #ACCC #NEWCARWARRANTY #LEMONLAWSFORAUSTRALIA ### EDIT ### "So what happens when the dealer says (yep they will ONLY say it verbally so they protect themselves) YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID...?" -- If you have no evidence or report that a dealer is denying you warranty thats pretty much it. Customer is 'snookered' and cant do a thing. Also the government cant do anything unless they have something to act on and since its a verbal denial (piss off) you have nothing in your hand until you perhaps get an independant report which will cost you then you might be lucky to get the governments attention. BUT the BIG issue here is inhibiting the livelihood of other businesses through systematic threats and denial of warranty around accessories. Thats inhibiting 'trade'. Thats illegal. We have actually lost money from sales from that. Thats called market control and restricting trade the dealers are doing it through that simple practice of verbal threats to prevent you from thinking about an accessory. So its actually a very illegal space for the new car industry to be in. It might get better.... lets see. We will keep VERY loud about it. Its simple. Its them or us. This is not kindergarten its serious its business. So we choose to hammer hard and loud and if some good dealers get hurt, our apologies....but we do not care as WE are already hurt and have lost money over this illegal act thats very ingrained in the new car network. If I tallied our losses as a business probably tens of thousands over decades. Over the industry Id say the New Car Dealers have Inhibited or Stolen $$Billions over the decades through these practices. Game on - New Car Industry Beware!
