16.01.2022 Work Safe, Home Safe was the key safety message at this month's Toolbox Talk. Both the Messina Air Conditioning and MAE Refrigeration teams heard from Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Safety Advocate Dan Kennedy, who spoke about his son Dale. Dale was working in the ceiling space of a local school when he died from an electric shock. He was only 20 years old, and was close to finishing his electrical apprenticeship. It was a tough story to hear, but Dan shares his fami...ly's story to remind all workers, but especially young workers, to speak up if they see something unsafe, and to always turn the power off before working in a ceiling space. We were also joined by Garry Hawkins, a Senior Advisor with WHSQ, who spoke to our team about creating safety culture in the workplace, the importance of safety systems and processes, and the results of our recent Safety Climate Survey. We contacted WHSQ six months ago to seek a review of our safety systems to ensure they are compliant and protect our staff. Since that time, we've voluntarily worked with Garry and the Injury Prevention and Management Program to fine tune our systems and make sure we're operating at best practice. Today we received our Certificate of Completion! We would like to thank Dan and Garry for sharing their time with us and helping to ensure that our Techs, and workers all over Queensland, return home safely to their families each day. #WHSQ #WorkSafeHomeSafe
