23.01.2022 3years ago I was lucky enough to listen to Professor Tim Noakes and Dr Aseem Malhotra address an enthusiatic crowd in Cape Town. Yesterday we heard just how much progress has now been made in the fight to deliver evidence based health.

23.01.2022 I was lucky to attend a fascinating lecture by Gary Taubes on Saturday where he discussed amongst other things problematic dietary research. He was supported b...y an incredible panel of experts Malcolm Kendrick, Campbell Murdoch, David Unwin, Ivor Cummins and Zoe Harcombe. I thought I knew a bit about metabolism and diet. Listening to this panel, reinforced the fact that I was mistaken! I am going to have to buy some more books. See more

20.01.2022 Attached is a (long) blog post from a former patient, now colleague. It details his recovery from T2D using lifestyle methods and regular data measurement. Ther...e will be a second blog post that lays out the how, but this is focused rather more on the progressive metabolic decline and subsequent recovery. The views are his own, but generally supported by our practitioner and clinical teams. http://macrofour.com/the-cure-for-diabetes-delivered See more

17.01.2022 Respiratory Quotient (RQ) is a strong indicator of weight regain. Some groups suggest it may be an accurate indicator for Insulin Resistance(IR), a state of pre-diabetes that may appear 5-10 years before diabetes occurs. All we know is that ECAL can accurately measure RQ (RER) and could provide clinicians and patients with advanced knowledge of potential disease. This paper from 20 years ago, is one of the earliest to look at RQ and IR. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC508813/

15.01.2022 Great to see our metabolism testing with ECAL now available in Tasmania! #MetabolisMatters #MetabolicRate #FatBurning

07.01.2022 Fantastic to see the Minister Cook highlight strategies to better manage the state burden of chronic disease. By highlighting the need for objective measurement, a focus on prevention and a preparedness to embrace digital health, the minister is communicating the core values for MHS's platform ENABLE. Building on the success of our pilot clinics ENABLE will offer metabolic testing and management to the world. Hopefully some of the early success stories can begin right here w...ith WA health. https://thewest.com.au//was-public-health-system-needs-to-

06.01.2022 In August the Australian Health Review (AHR) published an article that suggested > 900,000 Australians could qualify for Bariatric Surgery(BS) for Weight Loss. ...You can read the article here. https://www.publish.csiro.au/AH/AH16255 The head of our Nedlands practice David Beard wrote to the editor of AHR suggesting many of those Australians would benefit from an active lifestyle intervention such as the MHS programme. Unfortunately, they chose not to publish David's response, which you can read here. https://goo.gl/JcT9vH At present capacity (and assuming no new cases), it will take 45 years to perform BS on 900,000 Australians. Whereas lifestyle programmes similar to MHS are available now. Ironically long-term (5 year) success for BS is around 35%, with those patients that make LIFESTYLE changes most likely to succeed long-term. >>>Please share and like to help us get the message out their and show your support<<<

04.01.2022 Where does fat go when we lose it Answer: We breath it out. In our cells oxygen combines with fuel (food) we eat to generate energy and produces CO2 as a by... product. At MHS this is how we can accurately measure (not estimate) your metabolism and how much fat your are actually burning to help optimize your health and weight loss. Watch this video (minute 22 - 22) to find out more: http://iview.abc.net.au/progra/ask-the-doctor/DO1625V001S00#

04.01.2022 Evidence-based practice isn't merely deferring to research for answers. Rather, it involves synthesizing the body of literature to develop general guidelines, t...hen using your personal expertise to customize prescription to the individual. This is why the best practitioners have spent considerable time in the trenches, experimenting with different strategies both personally and with clients to hone their understanding of how to bridge the gap between science and practice Our practitioners have the extra advantage of medical grade technology to remove the guesswork currently involved with weight loss.

03.01.2022 At MHS we don't just help clients achieve life changing metabolic health, we like to present and publish data too. If you plan to be at ESSA, make sure you catch up with David or Kirsty.

02.01.2022 It is great that people are waking up to the power of measuring your metabolism properly. It is true that carbs may not be the enemy for everyone but you do not... know until you are tested. MHS has been testing and helping people manage their metabolism since 2013 so we know how to approach the different challenges that folks have with their metabolism. We agree that metabolic flexibility is key and also find, as these researchers conclude, that many have lost that. Exercise is important for metabolic flexibility but diet is a vital tool that we also use and find effective for our clients. Read more: http://www.dailycamera.com//carbs-not-enemy-cu-boulder-phy

01.01.2022 NIH have state of the art whole room calorimeters at $3m each. They are used to conduct fundamental metabolic research. 01.01.2022 Many seem obsessed with numbers when it comes to health. This article suggests a single push up or grip strength test may in fact be a better predictor of health than blood pressure, cholesterol or BMI.

01.01.2022 Recently, global re-insurance giant Swiss Re, brought together 200 leaders from Academia, Industry and Government to discuss the future for Nutrition and Diabetes. 01.01.2022 The Ebbeling/Ludwig paper regarding metabolic rate changes got us to think about our own clinical data. This graph compares the difference between measured and predicted RMR in 130 patients seen this year. The team have taken the difference between the second test and last, to avoid the naivety that can present when first running a metabolic test, with indirect calorimetry. The chart has 3 groups, representing those who have lost more than 5, 10, 15% of starting body weight. Most would have a LC programme with CHO around 20% of TEE. Before anyone jumps on me, I am well aware this is not a trial population, is purely an observation, and that correlation does not equal causation. But I think the data is interesting and worth looking at more closely, particularly with respect to RQ and LBM.
