24.01.2022 Mindful Monday: Diet-Brain connection Even mental health professionals are talking about the role of diet and mental health issues, and may impact the impact/dosage of medications. The general consensus is that the brain functions more cleanly and efficiently wh...en a significant portion of its energy comes from ketones, calming overactive and overly-reactive brain cells." 12.01.2022 Are thyroid issues impacting your weight loss and wellness efforts?

12.01.2022 Well done to client of the month for August - John*. He presented to the clinic looking to prevent the requirement for weight loss surgery. In 8 weeks he is down 13kg, but more importantly increased his fat burning from 0% --> 90% to help control appetite, prevent weight regain and manage blood pressure. Also a special mention to Nicole who lost 10cms from around her waist, gained energy and well on her way to recapturing her health!

12.01.2022 Are you starting your day with a bowl of ‘healthy' granola, topped with low-fat yoghurt, and a glass of fruit juice? Your intentions to start your day with a ...healthy breakfast are fantastic. But the reality is, your breakfast may not be so healthy after all. This breakfast may suit someone who is super active and without any metabolic issues. But the truth is, that's the minority of people, and even so, it’s not necessarily the best option. For most people, the bowl of sugary granola and yoghurt will provide a short boost of energy before crashing it down 1-2 hours later, leaving them feeling tired and hungry again searching for that next high... So instead of setting ourselves up for a mid-morning slump, it is beneficial to start our day with a protein-based meal that is naturally rich in healthy fats. A meal like this will not only fuel our bodies for a busy day, but our brain too! One of our favourite breakfasts at Ellipse Health is a good ole’ egg-based meal that might include some smoked salmon, avocado, and a coffee! Delicious and nutritious, and won’t leave you counting down the hours until your next meal... What's your go-to healthy breakfast?

11.01.2022 More than 30 years of clinical research has shown that muscle-strengthening exercise increases muscle mass, strength and bone mineral density. It improves our bodys capacity to clear sugar and fat from the bloodstream, and improves our ability to perform everyday activities such as walking up stairs or getting in and out of a chair. It can also reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. Compared with aerobic exercise like jogging, clinical studies also show that muscle-strengthening exercise has greater effects on age-related diseases such as sarcopenia (muscle wasting), cognitive decline and physical function. And the good news is strength training can be done by anyone, anywhere and you dont need fancy equipment.

10.01.2022 Work it Wednesday - Plateaus Have you hit a plateau with your strength training? Is an exercise in your programming straggling behind? 08.01.2022 Has someone told you or have you thought to yourself "what I am doing is unsustainable"? It’s also pretty unsustainable to live with type 2 diabetes, joint pain, heartburn, PCOS, hypertension, migraines, and fatty liver and dealing with the side-effects of medication for them. But what’s most unsustainable of all is feeling less than your best. Living in a fog of low energy, suboptimal health, and knowing there’s something better out there for you but feeling too sick or to...o tired to go after it Metabolic health is so much more than a diet. Sure, sometimes all you may do is change what you eat or when you eat, and it can have it's challenges. But remember changing your food can change your life... Ask yourself what’s unsustainable about a ribeye steak with sauteed mushrooms or skipping the bread with breakfast? If there is anything, in particular, you are struggling with or unsure about please respond to this email or ask your practitioner at your next appointment.
