21.01.2022 How to choose quality carbs... The Metabolic Jumpstart food groups that contain carbohydrates are; Fruit, Dairy and Starches. Fruit, dairy and starches provide naturally-occurring (not added) carbs with nutrients, so you dont want to cut all these out if you dont need too. Average 15g carbs per Exchange... Other MJ food groups; Vegetables, Protein and Healthy Oils contain very little carbohydrate. Vegetables can be semi-starchy but are a lower priority than more starchy choices. How to choose quality carbs If you are restricting carbohydrate-containing foods, you will want to get the best nutritional value from the choices you make. Dairy Include natural or Greek yoghurt for the beneficial bacteria that boost gut health. Choose lower-fat milk and yoghurt to allow you to eat more food volume per Exchange. Calcium can be higher in low-fat dairy foods. Include cheese as it tends to have a lower carbohydrate content and gives you protein. Fruit Choose fruit with a higher fibre content to make up for what you may be lacking from total Starches. Go for; raspberries, strawberries, pear, figs, apples and blueberries. Berries have less carbs per 100g than other fruits, so you get to eat a larger portion per Exchange. Starches Choose wholegrain and high-fibre Starches like; All-Bran, beans, lentils, quinoa, oat bran and natural muesli. The fibre is good for gut health, it slows digestion and is not completely digested for calories! A lower-carb, nutrient-rich diet may be right for you. And you can adjust your MJ targets to do it.

But first, did you know that unless almond milk is fortified with calcium its nutritionally more like a slice a bread than a glass of cows milk.... Pros for almond milk No lactose - Good option if you cant tolerate cows milk. Different taste - Works on breakfast cereal if you prefer the taste. Animal-free - Plant alternative to cows milk if you choose for animal welfare reasons. Cons for almond milk Lower in calcium - Many almond milks are low in calcium, which is need for metabolic function, health and weight management. Low in nutty goodness - With as little as 2% almonds, some options only offer a total of 5 almonds per 250mL glass. Very low in protein - Not a good source of protein to assist with appetite suppression. Added sugar - Some almond milks contain over 2 teaspoons of added sugar. Choose unsweetened, although can be a bit bland.
