High intensity interval training has been around for a 100 years but has had a major resurgence over the past 10 years, owing in large part, to a heap of research papers extolling its benefits.... A Canadian study tested the long held belief among most exercise and medical professionals that long, slow cardio at a low intensity is superior for fat loss. In fact, they compared the impact of moderate/low intensity to high intensity interval training in hopes of finding what was superior for fat loss. One group did 20 weeks of endurance training while the other group did 15 weeks of high intensity interval training. The cost of total energy expenditure was much higher in the endurance training group than in the interval group. They found that the endurance group burned nearly twice the amount of calories during training than did the interval group. Lo and behold, skin fold measurements showed the interval training group lost more body fat than the endurance training group. This may not seem to make sense at first glance, but the team found, When the difference in the total energy cost of the program was taken into account...the subcutaneous fat loss was nine fold greater in the HIIT (interval training) program than in the ET (endurance training) program. In laymans terms, interval training trumped long, slow cardio for fat loss! The interval trainees got nine times the fat loss for every calorie burned during training.

14.01.2022 Commonly Asked Question: Should I do Metafit Everyday? Doing Metafit or any other form of true HIIT daily will quickly lead to fatigue, soreness and other signs of over-reaching. During active Metafit intervals youre pushing your body to near maximum effort. Such efforts are exhausting to your body and necessitate a greater degree of recovery time compared to an equal amount of steady state cardio. Your body doesnt recover swiftly from exercise of such high intensity. Du...ring the recovery period after a Metafit workout, your metabolic rate stays revved up for hours, and some experts say days. Thats because your body has to work hard to return your body to normal. During this time, muscles resynthesize phosphocreatine, the fuel source they use at the start of intense exercise. Plus, your body temperature has to come down, your heart and breathing rate has to drop and stress hormone levels have to fall. In addition, you have to breathe harder to repay the oxygen debt you incurred. Thats a lot of extra work your body has to do. Imagine if you asked it to do that every day. The reality is you dont NEED to do Metafit every day, assuming youre really ramping up the intensity during the active intervals. One of the things that makes Metafit so appealing is the fact you dont have to do it every day. How often should you do Metafit? Two to three times a week works best for most people. Doing daily Metafit wont give your muscles adequate time to recover or your body time to completely return to homeostasis. If you feel you can do Metafit every day, ask yourself if youre really working hard enough when youre engaged in an interval routine. Metafit isnt moderate intensity cardio separated by rest intervals. If you do it this way, you wont get the same degree of post exercise after burn or improvements in your anaerobic energy system.

HIIT is an acronym for High Intensity Interval Training this type of training involves intervals of short-burst high-intensity activity interspersed by recovery that aims to improve aerobic fitness. Because intensity is high, the duration of the session is short any longer than 30 minutes and its not a HIIT workout. Metafit workouts are based on the HIIT principle that results in an efficient and effective form of exercise. Do I need to be fit to do a metafit session? No. The exercises performed in a metafit session can be regressed or progressed to suit all fitness levels and abilities. Everyone is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses you work to your maximum and the metafit coach will ensure you are doing the exercise at a level that is appropriate for you. How is metafit different? Metafit is un-choreographed, its not a dance or aerobics class. It is a selection of bodyweight exercises (think old-school exercises such as push-ups, squats, burpees, etc) done to great music with voice commands. Your metafit coach will instruct correct technique for each exercise and assist you with maintaining correct form. Is it really just 30 minutes? Yes. All metafit sessions include a dynamic mobilisation warm-up, the main metafit set depending upon the workout selected can last between 17-23 minutes. How many times a week should I do a metafit session? A growing body of research has found that completing 3 metafit or any HIIT sessions per week has the same or superior health and fitness benefits compared to continuous aerobic exercise. In comparison, the public health recommendation for continuous moderate aerobic exercise is at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week. Im training for a 10km fun run. Will metafit help or hinder preparing for this event? Definitely help.
