24.01.2022 THE PROS (here are just a few) - You no longer have to slave away on the treadmill for 60 minutes at a time. - HIIT is an anaerobic activity, it will help you preserve muscle mass. You will boost HGH levels, which help you burn fat and preserve muscle.... - It mimics real life situations where you actually perform short intense bursts of activity. Because seriously, in what real life situation would you have to run 3 miles? THE CONS Like all good things in life, there are unfortunately some downsides. - This is not a workout for lazy people. If you’re going to do HIIT, then you can’t half-ass it. If you’re told sprint for 30 seconds, then you better perform an all out sprint for 30 seconds (For help, imagine yourself being chased by a cheetah). - HIIT can definitely impair recovery. This is not a workout that you can do every day. If you do HIIT every day, then you could be looking into some serious overtraining problems.

24.01.2022 A great video on all the progressions of a burpee - doesn't matter which one you do, as long as you focus on technique, depth of the movement, range of motion... once you have these, THEN and ONLY THEN think about increasing complexity and power of the movement by adding the explosive jump/tuck jump and chest to ground.
23.01.2022 Hey guys (Drew here) - just a note about parking during the day. Please NEVER park in any of the spaces of our next door residents - tradies- during the day. They have to get in and out lots, and someone parked over our next door neighbours main roller-door today. Hes a real nice guy, and is very nice about it, but we have a really good relationship with them, and want to keep it that way. Please only park in front of our gym, or on the street, or around the corner - not blocking any neighbours or shop/trade entrances. Thanks lots :)
22.01.2022 Coach Paula's story - a story of motivation, dedication, strong will; never giving up no matter what life throws at her... "I have exercise induced anaphylaxis, after going into anaphylactic shock while running in 2012, the ambos gave me 3 shots of adrenaline to get my vitals up (my blood pressure was 70/50 - almost cardiac arrest territory), then rushed me to emergency. I attended the outpatient allergy clinic at Royal Melbourne Hospital for years, and was told it was exerci...se + gluten. So I avoided gluten before exercise, all was going well until last month, when I had a small allergic reaction after training. Then on Monday night, I had another one after training; this time it was far worse than an month ago. More facial swelling (like I'd gone 10 rounds with Tyson), a rash on tummy & arms and a slight wheeze.. Last time, the swelling went down overnight; this time, it's taken the whole week, plus it's taken more meds (antihistamine and ventolin). I still have some slight swelling on my cheeks today, but compared with Monday; let's just say it looks like only 1/2 a round with an amateur fighter today and...make up does wonders! I'll be ok - it won't stop me - it hasn't stopped to me date - I'll still train, though I'll be super careful. I now have antihistamines, ventolin and an epipen with me every where I go, plus spares at the gym. And doctor advised that I no longer train on my own. I also am on a waiting list to go back to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Allergy Clinic to find out what the second trigger (along with exercise) is, so I can avoid it before exercising. This Auto Immune condition tried to stop me in 2012 when I went into anaphylactic shock.. BUT... 19.01.2022 We had our 2nd last AM & PM sessions for the year on Monday night & yesterday morning. We unleashed December metafit workout, Polaris, and as usual both crews absolutely smashed it!!! Though our poor Monday PM crew had to endure Polaris in the sweltering 30 degree heat on Monday; the bottom photo shows them post-Polaris They still gave it their all and I'm so proud of each & every one of them!!! Last sessions for the year tomorrow; Thursday 23/12 @9:30am & 6:30pm. Ge...t in before the holiday cheer hits us haha Then we'll be back in 2017, raring to go on Monday 9th January!!! We've come a long way since January; a partnership with CrossFit Moonee Valley, a new venue, the addition of a new coach, new members joining, old members returning.. IN A RECENT STUDY, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota assigned groups of people aged between 18 and 30 and between 65 and 80 to three months of HIIT, weight training or a combination of the two. Muscle biopsies were taken before and afterwards to measure the impact of these regimes on their cells. HIIT boosted the ability of the mitochondria within cells to generate energy by 69 per cent in older volunteers, and by 49 per cent in the younger gr...oup. Mitochondrial activity declines with age, which may aggravate fatigue and reduce the size and ability of muscles to burn excess blood sugar a risk factor for diabetes. But this decline was halted and even reversed in the older HIIT group. HIIT trainers also saw surges in lung, heart and circulation health. The amount of oxygen they could inhale and consume at full tilt rose by 28 per cent in the younger group and by 17 per cent in the older group. FOR THE KIDS: Make sure you bring along the kids...... * were working on getting someone to do face painting for the duration of the Metafit class (TBC) * Easter bunny will be making an appearance and handing out Easter eggs after the class DETAILS: * $10 per person * Burpee challenge - as many burpees as possible in 5 mins - HOWEVER you can gain an advantage by buying lots of 10 burpees for $5 (meaning the burpees get added to your end total score, but you dont have to actually do them ) All proceeds - the charity class fee, burpee challenge buy in advantage and any other money collected leading up to the event and on the night - go to the Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
