02.01.2022 As a Massage Therapist, I always ask my clients where in their body are their main areas of muscle tension. Everyone one is different; everyone has their own story, and of course there are a number of combinational factors that could be adding to the varied build-up of tension. However, DID YOU KNOW that often we trap unprocessed emotions in the muscles of our body? We may or may not be aware of this but: MUSCLE TENSION IS INTIMATELY LINKED TO OLD MEMORIES AND REPRESSED EMOT...IONS! This may hinder us from reaching mental clarity and/or working through any past emotional trauma. Interestingly, it is said that there are certain areas of the body linked to specific stored emotions. For those interested in learning more, I thought I would share below some of the linkages between muscular regions of the body and their corresponding representations of stored emotions. Shoulder tension: Burden & responsibilities. Neck tension: Fear and repressed self-expression. Upper back: grief, sorrow & loss. Middle back area: Helplessness, insecurity, powerlessness, feeling unsupported by others. Lower back: Unworthiness, guilt or shame. Buttocks: Anger. Does this resonate with you? I hope this enables you to understand more about yourself, your journey, and your body.
