22.01.2022 Hi, just a note to let you know that fire restrictions are now in force in the Macedon Shire. This means NO burning off without a permit ( not that you would be silly enough to burn off now anyway ) Summer is here !!

22.01.2022 Coming up Saturday - Xmas party, Produce Swap and Arvo Tennis!! A busy social day!!

22.01.2022 Tomorrow has been declared a Code Red day for the Mallee and Northern Country the first in many years. There is also a statewide Total Fire Ban. Code Red is the highest level of rating in Victoria and it signifies the worst conditions for grassfires or bushfires. Tomorrow’s conditions will be extremely difficult for firefighters and the community if we get fires running. A Code Red Fire Danger Rating means that if a fire were to start: # it will be uncontrollable, unpredic...table and fast moving fire services will find it difficult to put out # there is a high likelihood that people in the path of a fire will be killed or seriously injured #homes are not designed or constructed to withstand in these conditions - even the best prepared homes will not be safe #leaving high risk bushfire areas the night before a Code Red Day or early in the morning of a Code Red Day is the safest option for your survival do not wait and see

13.01.2022 Fire? Come and find out how to prepare your property

13.01.2022 O.k., we have a couple of warmish days coming up, complete with TOTAL FIRE BAN DAYS So let’s do this right. No fires in the local area, and keep an eye out for strange vehicles acting suspiciously. This is the type of weather that brings out the low-lifes that, for some strange reason, like to light fires. Particularly inspired with the dramas going on in NSW and SA. Remember: no using equipment that create sparks in the open air, no cooking fires ( ga...s bbq’s o.k. though but check the bottle for leaks ) Best not operate anything ! If you haven’t mown your long grass yet, well, quite frankly, it’s now too late. Don’t get out there with the ride-on, as as sure as eggs, a blaze will start........ Let’s keep our country-side brown....................... From Metcalfe Brigade via Mark

08.01.2022 Although data states that 2/3 of Black Saturday fatalities died while sheltering in or near their house, research by bushfire scientists revealed that they did not die BECAUSE they were sheltering. They died because they did not know how to shelter safely. SO WHEN THE BUSHFIRE EMERGENCY MESSAGE IS It I s too Late to Leave, You Should Take Shelter and Stay Indoors - WHAT SHOULD YOU ACTUALLY DO? IF YOU CANNOT SHELTER IN A BUILDING * Shelter behind a wall; beside a large fire ...Continue reading

04.01.2022 METCALFE BRIGADE and COVID 19 As the impact of Covid 19 deepens, Mecalfe CFA Brigade are taking the following precautions: # Sunday mornings will be attended by... the duty lieutenant and one other member. Sun runs and equipment checks/tests should be carried out as per "normal" by the lieutenant and member. # TURNOUTS : Captain or O.I.C. will choose a crew from the members turning up with preference being given to younger, less vulnerable members. This is to protect any older more susceptible members. # In case of a call-out, caution is strongly advised : gloves, hand washing and hygiene is paramount. # A pager message is to go out to inform members, and they can contact either Captain or 1st Lieutenant for more info if required. # Metcalfe Community Assoc. has organised assistance for Metcalfe residents that are in need of assistance. A poster to this effect is on the hall noticeboard. Keep safe and thanks for your time METCALFE RURAL FIRE BRIGADE
