10.01.2022 Please consider these points when doing your research on either vasectomy or vasectomy reversal: The vas deferens tissue is precious and limited in length and deciding who will operate on it should be carefully considered If you are thinking about a vasectomy, consider all your options as not all vasectomies are the same... If you have had a vasectomy and would like more children a well performed vasectomy reversal may be your best option. Ask your surgeon to describe the operation in detail and show you video of their vasectomy reversal and bypass epididymovasostomy (EV) The best quality sperm after a vasectomy is most likely to come from the ejaculate after a successful vasectomy reversal, rather than aspirated (IVF) from clogged up tubules in the epididymis or immature sperm resected from testicle tissue. If you have had a failed vasectomy reversal, IVF is not your only pathway left to have more children, seek a second opinion and assessment for a vasectomy reversal redo procedure. We have many new patients from all over Australia and from overseas who have seen us for a consultation and ultrasound after having their first vasectomy reversal procedure performed elsewhere and fail. Most find that a redo reversal with us is an option with good success. To discover more about vasectomy procedures, or to arrange a consultation with Dr Chris Lekich, please contact us.
09.01.2022 Open Ended Vasectomy, The Metrocentre Way offers: reduced incidence of post vasectomy pain (related to congestion) syndrome better success rates when it comes to a reversal if required in the future... 29,000 Australian men undertake a vasectomy procedure every year, and at Metrocentre our highly experienced team can provide an advanced and highly successful open-ended vasectomy technique. How does it work? A vasectomy procedure involves cutting the vas deferens to prevent sperm from entering the ejaculate. The vas deferens are the two tubes that carry sperm from the testicle to the glands at the base of the bladder called the seminal vesicles and the prostate gland. It is at this point that the sperm mixes with the seminal fluid to form fertile ejaculate. A vasectomy is typically performed via small incisions in the front of the scrotum. It is important to note that the production of the male hormone testosterone or a man’s ability to perform sexually is not affected by this procedure. At Metrocentre we strive to educate our patients about the various treatment options available, allowing them to make an educated decision on the treatment path they would like to pursue. If you have any questions, feel free to message us via Facebook.

09.01.2022 How will I feel after an Open Ended Vasectomy: The Metrocentre Way? The effects of the local anaesthic should wear off after about 2 3hours and after this time, most men report that they experience minimal discomfort. We will send you home after the procedure with an ice pack on the area the more ice you can keep on for the rest of the day after the procedure, the better you will feel the day after the procedure.... As many of our patients experience minimal discomfort after the procedure, we suggest that taking at least one dose of paracetamol before bed is beneficial. Don’t be brave if you have any unrelieved pain no matter how little, use paracetamol. If you have any questions, feel free to message us via Facebook.

06.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATES We are implementing appropriate levels of care to keep our patients and staff safe, given the current and changing environment surrounding COVID-19. The health and safety of our patients is always our number one priority.... Our clinics in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as the Miami Private Hospital & Specialist Centre on the Gold Coast, are private health facilities that only have patients and staff in attendance who are required to be there for the services that are uniquely offered in each location. None of our facilities will have patients in attendance who are seeking medical assistance with general health conditions, such as colds, flus or suspected COVID-19 testing. Are Regular Appointments Still Going Ahead? At the present time all consultations, treatment procedures and surgeries will be going ahead as scheduled, unless patients are required to postpone due to meeting the criteria outlined below. Who Needs to Postpone Their Appointments? Appointments will be postponed when patients meet the following criteria: Patients are infected with COVID-19. Patients are experiencing symptoms such as fever and/or acute respiratory infection (e.g. shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, fatigue, aches & pains Patients have travelled overseas within the last 14 days. These patients are required to self-isolate for 14 days after entering Australia and we will reschedule their appointments to take place after the 14 day self-isolation period Patients who have been identified as being within close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19. These patients will need to self-isolate at home for 14 days, even if they are asymptomatic and do not require treatment. We will reschedule their appointments to take place after 14 days after the last contact with the confirmed case and the self-isolation period is complete. We would like to thank our wonderful patients and team for working together to keep us all safe and well.

03.01.2022 We have been receiving a lot of enquiries about the continuity of our service during these uncertain times. Dr Lekich would like to reassure all our patients that scheduled appointments are going ahead, unless patients have to postpone due to personal reasons, sickness or self-isolation. Please remember these important points:... Coming to your appointment is not breaking any rules around social distancing (unless you are required to be in self isolation). In fact, given the cleanliness of the facilities, it’s safer to come to your appointment than go to other public places. Our clinics in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane as well as the Miami Private Hospital & Specialist Centre on the Gold Coast, are private health facilities that only have patients and staff in attendance who are required to be there for the services that are uniquely offered in each location. None of these facilities will have patients in attendance who are seeking medical assistance with general health conditions, such as colds, flus or suspected COVID-19 testing. All treatment surfaces are cleaned in between patients. Staff members all obey social distancing protocols and the 1m rule to prevent any viral spread. The only physical contact will be with the doctor, nurses or sonographer who practice appropriate hygiene techniques. At this point masks are not recommend in clinics where there are no symptomatic or coughing people. However, if you have concerns you can wear a mask If there are any changes to your appointments our staff will contact you directly. You can also check our websites for regular updates. https://www.metrocentre.com.au/covid-19-updates/
02.01.2022 What are the chances of the vasectomy failing? Published results of vasectomy failure are 1 in 500 or 1 in 1000 depending on the study referred to. 80% of failures will be detected at the three month testing.... 20% of the remaining 1 in 500 or 1 in 1000 (i.e. 0.04% to 0.02%) have a chance of failure after three months due to the ends joining back together. At Metrocentre, the chance of failure of vasectomy would be rather surprising, as our Open-Ended reconstructive technique minimises scarring. Excessive scarring causes contraction of tissues at the procedure site and is usually the cause of the vas deferens ends re-joining. To discover more about vasectomy procedures, or to arrange a consultation with Dr Chris Lekich, please send us a private message.
