25.01.2022 Metropolitan LALC wishes to share some exciting news with our community, below are links to the new temporary field officer roles in Greater Sydney Branch and across NSW. In the first instance, these roles are being made available on a 12-month time-limited basis to provide immediately increase firefighting resources. Once the outcomes of the current Independent NSW Bushfire Inquiry are known, the NSW Government will consider the recommendations including possible future fund...ing. The jobs will be advertised widely including as many of local media outlets and social media. NPWS are encouraging applications from all ages and genders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse groups, the LGBTIQ+ community, veterans, refugees and those with a disability. This video highlights some of the roles and opportunities available to women at NPWS. Im really looking for your assistance to help spread the word and assist with applications if required, noting closing date is Monday 6 July 2020, so less than two weeks. There will also be a talent pool created that can be used to fill any consequential vacancies across the State and Greater Sydney Branch for the next 18 months. So please encourage all interested community members to apply because this is an excellent opportunity to get into to NPWS. Background On 8 June 2020, Minister Kean announced a $22.9 million interim budget boost to increase hazard reduction activity in and around the highest risk areas in the lead up to the next bushfire season. This funding will enable another 125 firefighters to be deployed before the next fire season, including up to 80 additional Remote Area Fire Team (RAFT) firefighters. The roles to be advertised are field roles with firefighting as part of their duties and are not exclusively firefighter roles. Increasing numbers of people are experiencing food insecurity due to: loss of income social isolation digital divide ... limited access to services or lower cost options. Program eligibility The program is open to anyone: living in the City of Sydney local area experiencing food insecurity self-isolating without the means or mobility to access or cook food under 65 not eligible for Meals on Wheels. 18.01.2022 Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Councils today 18th May honours Arabanoo Gannagal Warrior, of what is now known as Manly. 231 years of today he died in custody of the Crown after being our first ever 1st Nations aka Aboriginal kidnapped and becoming our first Aboriginal death in custody. RIP our Great Warrior who the English described as so Manly they named Manly after him.

17.01.2022 Senior Manager, First Nations Strategic Projects The Senior Manager, First Nations Strategic Projects is a temporary role to oversee the development of the First Nations Science Centre in Western Sydney. The First Nations Science Centre will seek to establish a repository for Australian First Nations science and knowledge and other key staged outcomes determined by a working group of project partners. The Powerhouse will leverage the Powerlab; a research, collaboration and workspace embedded into Powerhouse Parramatta, City of Parramatta Council, Westmead Redevelopment and the University of Sydney to initiate the project. Given the enormous pressures many are facing as a result of COVID-19 and the huge increase in demand for income support, we are launching a campaign to promote the Welfare Rights Centres services. In short, we want people to know that we provide free legal advice and representation to people in NSW on any Centrelink or social security matter. 13.01.2022 Future Directions Rent Choice Service Improvement Initiative (SII). There are a range of Rent Choice products available to support households to access safe and affordable housing in the private rental market. These include: Rent Choice Start Safely: applies to clients escaping domestic or family violence who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and are eligible for social housing. Rent Choice Youth: applies to clients between the ages 16 and 24 years who are capable o...f living independently; are homeless or at risk of homelessness; are eligible for social housing and who have the capacity and intention to engage in employment, education or training. Rent Choice Veterans: applies to former members of the permanent Australian Defence Force (ADF) who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Rent Choice Assist Trial: a form of Private Rental Assistance (PRA) that aims to support households to maintain and/or access safe and affordable housing in the private rental market. It provides a time limited private rental subsidy for up to 3 years and where appropriate, facilitates access to support services, including training and employment opportunities, to build capacity to return to independent living. Rent Choice Transition Pilot: applies to current public housing tenants who would like to leave public housing and move into a tenancy in the private rental market. Deeper Subsidy: A deeper subsidy may be available for eligible Rent Choice clients that require accommodation in high cost locations with a higher market rent than the standard affordable rent. Moderate Income: Moderate income clients who are identified as being at serious threat of domestic and family violence (DFV), are at risk of homelessness and are referred to a Safety Action Meeting (SAM) may be eligible for Rent Choice Start Safely. Rent Choice provides medium term financial assistance for up to three years for low to moderate income households. The program assists clients to access support services, including training and employment opportunities, to build capacity to continue living independently after the Rent Choice assistance ends. It ensures that clients are supported in their transition to sustainable independence. Recipients of Rent Choice must display a commitment to sustaining a tenancy while receiving the subsidy and transitioning to independent living and must be willing to receive and continue with support services where relevant. Each of the products have different eligibility criteria (many are consistent across the suite of products) and some products are only offered in certain locations (such as Rent Choice Youth).
