24.01.2022 Everyday our SES volunteers work collaboratively with other emergency service organisations to help the community in their time of need. This Saturday, SES Swif...twater Rescue Technician Jayme will be participating in the SmartBar Walk for a Veteran with PTS. This event seeks to raise funds and awareness for Veteran and emergency services mental health programs to support those who have been there to help you. Jayme will be completing the 35km walk through the Adelaide Hills in full swiftwater attire (thats a 3/5mm wetsuit, PFD and operational equipment!). Donations received through Walk for a Veteran with PTS go to: The Royal Society for the Blind, Operation K9, Heroes on the Homefront (HOTH), Australian Professional Firefighters Foundation (APFF) and CFS Foundation. If you would like to support Veterans and emergency service volunteers and staff to maintain positive mental health and continue to assist our communities, please follow the link: https://www.mycause.com.au/page/231555/jayme-moreland

24.01.2022 What a day yesterday. With the Noarlunga Unit wearing the brunt of the tasks in Southern Adelaide this time, a team was dispatched from our unit to assist them as they have done many times for other units. The SES is where we work as one team no matter where we are stationed and we are dedicated to providing support to the community in times of need.

24.01.2022 Our thoughts and condolences to the family and colleagues of SA Police Detective Chief Superintendent Joanne Shanahan APM along with the family of Tania McNeill that tragically died yesterday.

23.01.2022 A busy day today with Metro South teams completing tasks in our area before travelling further south to help our colleagues from Noarlunga Unit, who have had a really busy time last night and today!

22.01.2022 WOW is usually Wear Orange Wednesday supporting SES volunteers today, but in this case it was a WOW of a different kind when crews arrived at this task! During this task we had 4 Metro South rescue appliances and 2 Western Adelaide rescue appliances for part of the task as well on this site to make this building safe.

22.01.2022 A bit of weather on the way. Please make sure your gutters are clean and loose items are put away.

22.01.2022 It may be cold but that doesnt stop our crews who are carrying out a rescue in scrubland as part of tonights training

20.01.2022 ***UPDATE***: We understand there are several questions that you may have right now. Please read the dot points below that outline what has been announced today.... As soon as the new direction is finalised, updates will be provided. Until such time, we can only provide the information already included in this post. We thank you for your patience. We are working hard to get this information to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your questions and your patience in relation to the current COVID-19 Stay at Home Direction. This sudden change in Direction is based upon new information that we have received in relation to the Parafield Cluster. We understand this may cause some confusion and we'll endeavour to provide you with information as it becomes available. Our actions have been based upon health advice to ensure the safety of the South Australian community and we thank the public for their support and patience during this period. 19.01.2022 IMPORTANT COVID-19 TESTING INFORMATION Please only attend a COVID-19 testing site if you have COVID-19 symptoms OR have been instructed to get tested by SA Heal...th. Visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidcontacttracing to find out if you are impacted by the Parafield Cluster AND are required to get tested. We are working hard to extend operating hours of clinics and put on more staff. If you need to get tested: Please be patient with staff who are working hard to organise logistics and collect samples. Be prepared for delays by bringing water and snacks. If you are attending a walk-in site, bring sun protection (sunscreen, hat, umbrella) and a chair. Keep 1.5 metres between yourself and others in line and wear a mask if possible. Do not take other people with you to get tested, other than those you need to care for. Motorists are reminded to not queue across intersections, ensure that you leave enough distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you, drive slowly through the testing sites and ensure you have enough fuel if waiting in line at a drive-through clinic. After your test: Go straight home. Avoid contact with other people. Stay in self-isolation until you receive a negative test result (in certain cases you may be required to remain in self-isolation or self-quarantine if directed to do so by SA Health or SA Police, even if you receive a negative test result). Information on how to self-isolate/self-quarantine: www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidisoadvice If you are well but worried, contact the SA COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line on 1800 632 753

17.01.2022 Its that time of year again and whilst SES are still busy with our normal taskings we also support our colleagues from the SA CFS with a support role during fires. This role involves tasks such as:- Incident management teams... Rescue Evacuations Staging Logistics Base camp Recon Rapid Assessment of damage caused and many more tasks. Each fire season SES members undertake skills maintenance sessions in theory and practice for a burnover whilst on the fireground. This year we have been working on more interservice relationships locally and we were very grateful for CFS State Training Officer David Zakrzewski who attended the unit to run through the SES program but also to give members of this group an understanding from a CFS perspective. During major severe weather events in SA, CFS provide a support role to SES and during fire season SES provide a support role to CFS. Whilst we might wear different coloured uniforms and have different roles, each service is always in the background supporting each other. #SASESMETROSOUTH #SACFS

16.01.2022 What a day and its not over yet. Metro South crews have been going non stop again today. If you have an emergency please call 132500 for life threatening and urgent calls dial 000 and we will attend with the first available team. If you have been able to resolve your emergency or it no longer is a threat to person or property before we arrive, please call and let us know.

15.01.2022 Looking forward to Alpha and Bravo teams returning to joint training tonight after months of seperation enviroment. Just as important as that we will be welcoming 9 new recruits tonight. Over the next 9 weeks they be doing a Level 1 course and a Rescue Operations course.

15.01.2022 0. Nil. Zero. Zilch. Nada.... Nought. We have 0 known active COVID-19 cases in South Australia. Were doing great SA, but we must not be complacent. There is a risk of new cases from people arriving from other states and territories. Our state still has tight border restrictions, but people can arrive in SA (and quarantine for 14 days) or certain essential travellers can get an exemption (e.g. emergency services, compassionate reasons, transport and freight services). More than 33,300 people have arrived in SA since border restrictions were introduced. Important reminder for all South Australians: Keep 1.5 metres distance from others. Get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms, even if mild. Download the COVIDSafe app. Practice good hygiene. Keep working from home (if possible).

15.01.2022 Weve got some strong winds on the way across South Australia, so its time to start thinking about how you can prepare. Loose items around your home can be blo...wn into the air and cause damage to your or your neighbours property. Keep your trampolines, deck chairs, pots and more from flying away by securing them or putting them away. If you need emergency SES assistance, call us on 132 500. If its a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. For more tips on how to prepare for stormy weather, visit our website. https://www.ses.sa.gov.au/site/storm.jsp

14.01.2022 As you have seen recently Metro South members have been gaining additional skills across all facets of operations and operations support on top of our normal day to day tasks. We now have members that have been trained to support SAAS in the critical role they carry out. Just another day in the life of our Orange family

14.01.2022 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.... Lest We Forget.

14.01.2022 After a wild week of weather, we finally have a little bit of downtime! While the radars are clear for now, it is an excellent time to climb a ladder (if youre comfortable doing so) and make sure your gutters and downpipes are clear. Making sure all the rain that collects on your roof has a clear way down to the ground or drains will prevent it going somewhere you dont want it, like back into your roof space! Just make sure to wear gloves, use a gutter scoop or trowel to keep your hands safe from sharp sticks. This picture was taken recently by one of our members at a task, and features Metro 42, Metro 41 and Metro 32, with one of Sturt State Emergency Services vehicles lurking in the back!

12.01.2022 What a year its been. Whilst it hasnt been the most positive year, members of the Metro South Unit have been training harder than ever. Metro South is home to the Southern Adelaide District UAV (Drone) Response. Recently the SES made it possible to increase our response capacity by now having an additional 2 pilots trained. This will help as we continue to respond this resource within the district and other parts of the state as we have been doing since its inception. One of... the challenging roles in SES is to become a Trainer Assessor, especially as a volunteer where they also qualify in multiple skills first. Every now and again we achieve a first at the unit and this was certainly a good one. Senior member Ashlee recently completed the Trainer - Presenting skill set to become the youngest trainer to join the State Trainer Assessor group and we are pretty proud of her. With members like these guys the future of our SES rescue unit is in safe hands. https://youtu.be/nP8XSZS6z3U

10.01.2022 Our outstanding SA State Emergency Service volunteers answer the call to keep us safe time and time again, for that we thank you. Todays Wear Orange Wednesday is chance for us to show our appreciation for their incredible work. #thankyouses Metro South State Emergency Service

10.01.2022 ** Exercise Training Only*** Metro South Rescue crews are currently on site conducting multiple rescues at a suburban house in Somerton Park. Earlier today for training purposes an earthquake occurred requiring USAR and Rescue qualified personnel to assist with the locating and extrication of multiple casualties.... Thanks to the owner and AC Demolition for the use of the site and Noarlunga Unit members to act as our casualties, as without them this training exercise would not be possible.

09.01.2022 Its been a tough time for everyone around the world. Police, emergency services and medical staff are just some of the frontline services that have continued 24/7. We are proud of our members and the contribution they make in assisting the community in their time of need. In the media you will see this demonstrated regularly but there is one thing that you dont see and the one thing that enables us all to do what we love doing. None of us could do this without the support f...rom our families. Without them we would not be able to serve the community the way we do. South Australians have always been thankful and let our volunteers know this when they attend rescues, severe weather tasks etc. We appreciate this. Its time for us to do the same. From all of us to the families of our members we say thank you. Without you we can not do what we do. Without you, the community does not have the members to to respond to its needs. #THANKYOUSESFAMILIES

09.01.2022 Exercise outside of the home is now permitted, and can be done with members of the same household. 07.01.2022 Rest in Peace Stuart Lambert ESM On Friday the 21st of August 2020, the SA State Emergency Service community lost one of their finest. Not only a loyal frien...d and a knowledgeable mentor, but an incredible rescuer. Stuart Lambert volunteered at Barmera SES for almost 50 years, landing himself in the Unit Manager position. Stuart also became one of the most important volunteers within the greater Riverland district, attaining capability coordinator roles, quickly becoming known for his rescue abilities. Not only did he volunteer at the local level, he became a well-known name across the state as one of the most knowledgeable Road Crash Rescue trainers, partaking in LUKAS hydraulic tool demonstration. Stuart taught Road Crash Rescue all over SA and even inter-state, to not only SES but CFS and MFS included. Along with a close friend, Danny Wood, Stuart wrote the Heavy Road Crash Rescue training package and delivered it to local units to further our rescue capability, ensuring our capacity of rescue was always on par with local requirements. As stated above Stuart was not only an incredible rescuer, but an incredible friend... someone who showed great compassion and loyalty to those around him. There are MANY stories to be shared involving this amazing man and his outstanding achievements and never enough time to share. Our deepest sympathies go out to Stuarts wife, children, and grandchildren. We would also like to send our condolences to the entirety of Stuarts rescue family who are shook greatly by this tragedy. We hope you may do the same. Time has come to hang up the overalls, but you will always be riding shotgun with us. Rest in Peace Stuart Love from your brothers and sisters in orange from Loxton SES

07.01.2022 What a year 2020 has been so far. Can you believe weve made it halfway through the year already? From the beginning of January to the end of June, weve receiv...ed over 3,300 requests for assistancemore than half of the 2019 total! These included: - over 1,500 trees down - over 1000 related to severe weather and flooding salvages - over 200 road crash rescues and vehicle recoveries - over 100 rescues, including 36 marine search and rescues - over 100 related to building impacts and collapses - over 150 requests to assist other emergency services, including assisting South Australia Police with searches over 20 times. This year has already been a busy one for our volunteers and staff, and were sure it will continue to be busy. Our volunteers provided assistance through base camps, logistics and more during the Kangaroo Island and Adelaide Hills bushfires. And, they are currently being trained up to be prepared during this unprecedented time to ensure they can provide support to our SA Ambulance Service peers through the COVID-19 response. A big thank you to our hardworking volunteers who continue to provide amazing support to their communities and fellow South Aussies. And, we also thank their families for their ongoing support.

07.01.2022 Well done to our new recruits who completed their Level 1 basic training last night, enabling them to hit the roads with the rest of the crew and learn on the job! 17 new recruits have joined us in the last 6 months and the Metro South Unit currently has 54 dedicated, operational members on the team now and we are proud of every single one of them.

06.01.2022 We attended the launch of Operation Nomad today alongside South Australia Police, SA Country Fire Service, SA Metropolitan Fire Service and Minister for Police ...and Emergency Services Hon. Vincent Tarzia MP. This year, a group of State Emergency Service personnel will be supporting our colleagues at SAPOL with Operation Nomad, and we’re proud to be able to provide this assistance during this time.

05.01.2022 Being a large unit in Southern Adelaide we are quite often fairly busy with 54 operational members that attend tasks and training plus some flexible volunteers that help out where they can. This requires us to have a lot of our members trained in both operations and support operations roles. They are activated to do various roles within our local IMT (Incident Management Team) or Divcom (Divisional Command). Seeing the need for this and based on plans for the future, we have recently converted an area in our unit to our new Divcom facility, allowing the unit to host IMT teams whilst still having a fit for purpose operations centre for local operations. This also allows us to have a facility for other agencies who may base themselves with us during major operations.

01.01.2022 Our members from Alpha Team were back at it tonight continuing on with our tools and equipment course. Bravo team will pick up where they left off next week. Something about giving the members big and noisy toys seems to make this bunch happy rescuers!

01.01.2022 An Open Letter to the South Australian community: The 2019/20 Fire Danger Season officially finishes at midnight tonight, finalising one of the busiest seasons ...in our history. The CFS really started our season in September, more than a month before our own season officially started, as a horrendous start to the season in Queensland and New South Wales saw local crews stretched to their limits. Over the next three months until after Christmas, CFS dedicated more than 1,300 volunteer firefighter and incident management personnel to help these two states battle unprecedented bushfires. Unfortunately this was only the start of our efforts this season with our own fires burning in catastrophic conditions near Port Lincoln and Yorketown in November, followed by the large fires in Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island in December and January. These were only a handful of the thousands of fires our CFS volunteers attended throughout the fire season with large fires in every Region from Keilira in the South East, Coonalpyn, Miltalie on the Eyre Peninsula and unfortunately too many others to name. I took up the role of Chief Officer in October last year and was very quickly impressed by the professionalism and commitment of our many volunteers. This year in particular they gave up so much of their time, put their lives on the line and worked so hard to not only protect their local communities but travel throughout South Australia and interstate to help others. Thanks must also go to the South Australian community who heeded our warning messages at the beginning of the season and prepared their homes against bushfire threat. Unfortunately too many homes were lost with a total of 179 burned this season, many simply because of the ferocity of the fires. The CFS bitterly regrets those losses and the tragic loss of 3 South Australians during the worst of the Fire Danger Season. The community also listened and acted when we issued warning messages. Those three lives lost to bushfires this year is three too many. However, I am thankful that we were able to provide timely and accurate warnings to the communities impacted so they could make safe decisions for themselves and their families. Thank you also to the communities for supporting us and each other throughout the fires. To see the generosity to our firefighters, especially on Christmas Day brought warmth to the heart. Thank you to all of those who have since had bake sales, fundraisers or simply donated to the CFS Foundation. That money will go towards supporting our volunteers in their time of need. I also want to thank CFS staff and our supporting agencies, SA Metropolitan Fire Services, SA State Emergency Service, Department for Environment and Water, SAPOL and all other organisations who contributed. The ability for those staff to get on with the job and provide results is testament to their abilities. At the moment we are continuing to help South Australians by being embedded in the State Command Centre for Health, managing the COVID-19 pandemic in this State. Only days after the request came through, our teams were at SA Health to support them as they faced a health emergency of unknown scale and duration. We knew anything we could do to support them as the control agency had to be a good thing. Of course the work does not end here. Our volunteers continue to attend structure fires, hazardous material incident, road crashes and to assist other agencies, as their work continues. I thank them for their amazing efforts and urge the community to continue to practice fire safety as we move into the winter months, and be careful on our roads. I dearly hope that more normal times will resume once the Coronavirus crisis has passed but South Australians can be assured that its Firefighters remain ready and available to answer calls for help whatever the challenges we face. Mark Jones, Chief Officer SA Country Fire Service

01.01.2022 What a great effort Earlier last week SA State Emergency Service personnel flew into Queensland to help with the recovery from a massive hail storm. "Thank yo...u to everyone involved in this deployment. We’re proud to assist our fellow emergency services across the nation," they wrote on Facebook. Thank you, one and all. : SA State Emergency Service
