24.01.2022 While everyone here in Melbourne is rushing around prepping for this new 6 weeks of stage 4 restrictions, Luke and Tyler managed to quickly record their thoughts on the new 1 hour of outdoor exercise per day and how you can make the most of your now limited training time. Check it out here: https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-8ji9a-e5702e

24.01.2022 220-age is a generalised equation which is reasonably accurate for 68% of people (1 standard deviation either side). It will significantly over or underestimate the remaining 32% of people. Here we have 40 year-old @djpaul80 climbing over 200BPM towards the end of his test. He regularly hits 210, with 213 the highest we’ve measured him at in the lab. Cardiac output (blood circulated per minute) = stroke volume (amount of blood ejected per beat) x heart rate (number of ...beats per minute). Your body doesn’t care what your heart rate is, it cares how much blood (and therefore oxygen) you’re circulating per minute (cardiac output). Have a higher HR than the 220-age equation? Your heart is probably just a bit smaller than average (so it beats faster to keep cardiac output up). Lower HR than the equation? Bigger heart which doesn’t need to beat as frequently to maintain cardiac output. Don’t stress if your heart rate is significantly higher/lower than your peers, just make sure easy is easy (yes, even if easy for you is 160 BPM) and hard is hard! See more

02.01.2022 Last week we talked about the effects of detraining and this week we've gone the other extreme. Overtraining syndrome which is a real possibility at the moment with more athletes working from home on flexible hours and wanting to get out to train more.
