20.01.2022 MetWest Eye Centre is looking for a new receptionist - could it be you?

20.01.2022 "Day hospitals offer cost-effective, specialist services that can help cut down wait times for the surgery youve been hoping for." "Going private" for eye surgery may not be as expensive as you think. Call us on 02 9622 7667 and speak to our staff about what to expect.

18.01.2022 Today marks the start of Orthoptics awareness week, an annual event showcasing the work Orthoptists do in their role as eye-care professionals. MetWests full-time Orthoptists, Ruchika Golani and Pavni Sharma, along with their part-time counterparts Ayca.Marina and Sivan, have a wide and varied role at the centre. This includes (but is certainly not limited to!) patient screening and diagnostic testing and assisting the doctors with procedures. Next time you meet an Orthoptist - ask them what they do - you might be surprised!

17.01.2022 This week World Glaucoma Week is highlighting the need for regular eye-checks to prevent glaucoma and glaucoma progression. Glaucoma is referred to as the "sneak thief of sight" as it initially affects the peripheral vision and so is not noticed. Regular testing of your eye pressure and visual field assist the Ophthalmologists in monitoring your glaucoma risk factors. If required, treatment for glaucoma can include regular eye-drops, laser or surgery.... At MetWest Eye Centre, Dr Cheng is our Glaucoma Sub-specialist, seeing patients with mainly moderate-advanced glaucoma. All of our general ophthalmologists monitor patients with glaucoma. 17.01.2022 An excellent show available via SBS OnDemand discussing obesity and diabetes. An issue close to our hearts - diabetes is one of the leading causes of vision loss in the western world. A good example of how an holistic approach to healthcare can reduce your risk of long-term vision loss.

16.01.2022 Medicare has advised of a scam claiming to owe you a $200 rebate and asking for your bank account details. Dont get caught out!

15.01.2022 Practice Manager, Jenny Langford, with Orthoptists Pavni, Sivan, Ayca and Ruchika celebrating World Glaucoma Week. This week the focus is on reminding friends and family to have an eye-check to reduce preventable vision loss. #worldglaucomaweek #wgw

14.01.2022 Covid-19 Update Following the escalation of policies over the weekend, MetWest has updated its procedures. We have altered our waiting room seating to assist you in social distancing. Please assist us by not crowding at the reception desk on entrance/exit.... We are asking patients who have returned from overseas in the last 2 weeks, as well as those with flu-like symptoms to re-schedule appointments. Please be patient with out staff as they make these phone calls, even if you have received a similar call for your previous appointment. We have increased routine cleaning of our waiting room, EFTPOS terminals etc. Please ensure you put any used tissues or cups in the rubbish bin. These precautions are in addition to symptoms previously in place in response to the current pandemic. This a team effort from all of our staff and doctors, to keep our patients and their families as safe as possible from infection.

09.01.2022 Introducing you to some of the MetWest Orthoptic team - Ayca, Ruchika and Marina. These tertiary-educated healthcare professionals are integral to the smooth running of our centre. Youll most often come into contact with them as they prepare you for the doctor during your pre-consult testing, doing additional diagnostic testing and procedures as well as assisting your Ophthalmologist with minor procedures. They are also your point of contact when ringing the centre with a question regarding your eye-drops etc, when your Ophthalmologist is not on-site. In short, they are invaluable members of the eye-care team! #OAW2019 #orthopticsau

09.01.2022 Our aim at MetWest Eye Centre is to deliver safe and quality healthcare. As part of this commitment, we have implemented the NSW Health, Federal Government and RANZCO recommendations on Covid-19. We are also taking advice from an infection control consultant. If you have an upcoming appointment at MetWest, be prepared for a phone call beforehand asking if you have been traveling, in contact with a Covid-19 patient or if you are feeling unwell. Some patients will be asked t...o delay their eye appointments to avoid putting others at risk. On arrival at the centre you will be asked to use hand sanitiser, located at front desk reception. Hand sanitiser is also readily available at multiple points throughout the centre, and we do encourage you to make use of this. Please be patient with our doctors and staff as they do their utmost to keep you safe.

07.01.2022 The renovations are half-way there! Thanks to everyone for your patience while weve worked through the (small) hitches that weve come across. Our phones and computers are all back on-line and the fax should be back up and running by this afternoon.

06.01.2022 Known as the silent thief of sight glaucoma develops slowly and often without any symptoms, leaving people undetected until the disease reaches an advanced stage. Left untreated, it can cause vision loss and may even lead to blindness. While vision loss cant be restored, early diagnosis and treatment can delay or halt the progression of the disease. That is why its so important to detect the problem as early as possible. #glaucomaweek

06.01.2022 Dont let poor vision hold you back - the NBAs Stephen Curry recently had his eyes checked after spending years needing to squint to see clearly. It turns out he has Keratoconus - a condition of the cornea that causes blurred vision. Drs Dana Robaei and Anthony Maloof specialise in this condition, discussing and tailoring your treatment options depending on the severity of the disease and your lifestyle. https://www.nba.com//stephen-curry-contact-lenses-shooting

04.01.2022 Many Australians are at risk of vision loss but dont know it. If youre 50+, you have diabetes or a family member with age-related macular degeneration, you have a greater risk of macular disease. Book an eye test and macula check in Macula Month (1-31 May) #earlyactionsavessight #macmonth

03.01.2022 The Foundation is calling everyone over 50 years to have an eye test and macula check. Lets tell everyone you know over 50! #maculardisease #eyehealth #prevention #health #howsyourmacula #maculardegeneration

02.01.2022 It is estimated that there are 300,000 Australians living with glaucoma, but over 50% are unaware they have it, thinking they have healthy eyes.

01.01.2022 Our amazing Patron Ita Buttrose is spreading the word about Macula Month and the strong hereditary risks of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A YouGov/Gal...axy survey has found 63% of Australians are unaware of the strong familial risks associated with AMD - Australias leading cause of blindness - putting their direct family members at risk of vision loss. Among Australians living with AMD, only half are aware of the hereditary connection. Of the people who do understand the risk, almost one third have not told all relevant family members they may be at risk. Lets start a conversation about family eye health.
