19.01.2022 The third track from the upcoming @mexicocitytheband album #closertohome is Drop the Needle. One of the moodier tracks in the collection, its sparse lyrics conjure up feelings of loneliness, isolation and images of dark, wet streets. The artwork for this post Sunday Morning also features a street scene; Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, 1961. About the only thing from this image that still stands today is the Town Hall. As with all of the art for these posts, it was painted by Darling Downs artist, Herb Carstens (1905-1979). An early contender for the album cover, is in the collection at #toowoomaregionalartgallery. #moodymusic #toowoombaartsociety #toowoomba #droptheneedle
14.01.2022 This shit is getting real. One of the all-timers. What a talent, what a loss. https://www.theringer.com//4/8/21213220/john-prine-obituary
14.01.2022 During the recording of Mexico City’s forthcoming album, Closer to Home, Mr Conrad Taylor aka @radicalconstructions showcased not only his fine bass playing but also his outstanding culinary skills. To help the band maintain peak performance levels throughout the sessions at Wild Mountain Sound Studios, Conrad commandeered the kitchen on a number of occasions and prepared meals including #huevosrancheros - fried eggs served on hot corn tortillas and smothered in cooked salsa.... When you cut into them, the egg yolks mix in with everything else on the platethe salsa, tortillas, beans and onionto create a delightful taste sensation. Similarly, when Conrad cuts into a bassline on his #fenderprecisionbass his classy, melodic, soulful, ‘singing’ playing style oozes in and around everything else to create a binding, hearty foundation and spicy sonic seasoning. 08.01.2022 Stepping Out is the second track from the forthcoming Mexico City album Closer to Home. It serves up an appetising lead vocal track from Adam Toole, mouth-watering bass playing by Conrad Taylor and lashings of delicious lap steel work by Joe Cryle. We are very lucky in Queensland to have been able to continue #steppingout largely unhindered throughout 2020, sampling the fare of local restaurants, bars and live music or theatre venues. Our thoughts are with those still in lockdown who cannot enjoy these simple pleasures of life. #lapsteel #lapsteelguitar #bluesrock #foodandmusic
02.01.2022 In the lead up to the release of Mexico City’s fourth LP, we thought we’d offer a small taste. This one is the opener ‘Broken Heart’ in which we say we’ve ‘been trying to forget about the past’. Of course much of the recent past will be very #hardtoforget #counteveryvote #countryrock
