09.01.2022 Whats in a name? For this song about a Macedonian village, its the name VMBEL. VMBEL was a village in Egejska Makedonija, close to the village Smrdesh which has since been forcibly renamed Kristalopigi. VMbel was completely destroyed during the Civil War with Greece (1946-1949). ... It is a well documented fact that hundreds of Macedonias villages were forcibly renamed during this time. The enslaved, battered and controlled Macedonians were told for decades, and it continues to this day, that they dont exist. Their country doesnt exist. Their name doesnt exist. We have heard countless anecdotes of the xenophobia and racism that Macedonians encounter daily. But tell us, if our names dont exist, how is it that there are hundreds of songs, some even 100 years old, referencing the original names of the villages and its people? Tell us, what was your name changed from? What was your Baba or Dedos village changed from? We want to hear in the comments Never stop dancing. Never stop singing. Never stop saying our name. Please enjoy the next song from our studio recording: Kinisa Da Oda O VMbel Na Gosti.
