25.01.2022 MFN Celebrations at the end of 2020 were a little quieter than usual but it was so enjoyable just to be together to end the year. Some Sharp-tailed Sandpipers and Black-tailed Native-hens kept us company. We are looking forward to a great year in the bush. Come and join us! Make sure you see the newsletters https://mfn.org.au/ for all the updates.

24.01.2022 What a find at Fivebough late this afternoon. Red-kneed Dotterel and an Australian Spotted Crake with its chick. Enjoying the Bird Count! https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ Don't forget the Aussie Backyard Bird Count this week. The #AussieBirdCount

21.01.2022 There has been loads of bird counting going on. We have had Birds in Backyards and the annual Twitchathon as well. Although we were racing against the clock I managed a couple of photos. Budgerigars in the wild are a treat! Thanks everyone who supported the local Twitchathon teams! They all had good days, recording between 87 and 115 bird species in the 8 hours. Close to $10,000 was raised statewide to assist endangered birds in last year's bushfire affected areas. This is a fantastic result in this very ordinary year.

13.01.2022 Show and Tell turned up some interesting conversations this week at the MFN meeting. The Emperor Gum Moth does not feed after it emerges from the cocoon, relying solely on the energy it stores as a caterpillar. Bush bananas are cooked in hot earth beside the fire or eaten raw when young (the flavour has been likened to fresh peas or zucchini). Nella is going to sow the seeds of this Bush Banana. Hopefully she has some success. Nella talked to us about environmental water and the NSW Sustainable Diversion Limit Adjustment Mechanism projects. Thanks Nella.

07.01.2022 Come to Darlington Point for a Superb Day Out! https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/a-superb-day-out-annual-cou

04.01.2022 MFN members took part in a Superb Day out in Darlington Point. We were lucky to have people from Orange and Tumut join us as well as all the locals from this area. There were lots of cheeky young male Superb Parrots making loads of noise in our TSR patch and along the river. We saw 12 while another group saw 65. Look forward to the final count and comparing it with last year. A very enjoyable morning and lunch thanks David and Lucy from Greening Australia. Great to see some new faces. #GreeningAustralia

04.01.2022 A superb day bush walking at Jacks Creek, Cocoparra National Park.

03.01.2022 Its days like this that remind us why we need to look after our natural environment. What a lovely day out with the Murrubidgee Field Naturalists and Narrandera Camera club at Cocoparra National Park. Narrandera Camera Club
