25.01.2022 #ShareYourStory "Learning the difference between self-criticism and self-compassion was a game-changer for me. Self-criticism is that drill sergeant in your hea...d, yelling at you to be better. Often, this voice gets mistaken by us for motivation. Self-compassion, on the other hand, is telling yourself that you are okay, even if you aren’t perfect today. You can’t be healthy if you’re constantly mean to yourself. And everyone deserves self-compassion. Including you, reading this right now." - Cheryl #WeDoAct #WEDAD #WorldEatingDisordersActionDay

17.01.2022 A new look for a new year.

16.01.2022 Another MGA Counselling Services update: The motivation behind moving into these strict lockdown measures is to save lives. This is the right thing to do, and as much as it hurts all of us, it protects the most vulnerable. That's one of the marks of a civilised society. There are many vulnerable people in "normal time" that rely on social interactions to manage mental health and wellbeing. Whether it be a formal program or simply meeting friends every week in the food court f...or a coffee, these interactions bring life. Now they are gone. And we're not sure for how long. So let's not forget those that are now at risk BECAUSE of the social isolation. MGA Counselling Services and many practices like it are flat our supporting individuals, couples and families through hard times that have now become harder. In addition to the measures that were put in place for infection control a week ago, we have now added the following: * We will now be available for appointments on Mondays in addition to our normal days. (Mondays were our admin day!). After hours appointments are still available. * Face to face (both indoor and outdoor are still available) but phone/face time/skype are available to anybody who needs it. * Concession rates for all small business owners that have been forced to close and casual workers that have lost their jobs. If that is still too much we will see you free. * Same goes for teachers and health workers or anybody in the frontlines. * Anybody wanting to act as a sponsor for somebody that can't afford counselling - please get in touch. We will let you know ways you can help out. One way is to purchase a gift card from http://www.foresttherapyvictoria.com.au - you keep the voucher and use it whenever you like. We will use the money to cover the cost of somebody's counselling. * Finally, if you're finding your own anxiety levels rising because of the situation happening around us, consider booking yourself in, even just for a single sessions, to learn some strategies to keep you mentally healthy for the next few weeks. We're frantically putting together some programs to help maintain good mental health for individuals, couples and families. Much of this will be nature based, maintaining safe social isolation measures. More on this early next week. *** Please share widely in your networks and help keep our communities healthy ***

14.01.2022 We're feeling lot so things at the moment. Boredom. Frustration. Anxiety. Perhaps one of the unexpected experiences during social distancing is grief. In this video, Zoe and I chat with Yvonne Lindner about the experience of grief during social distancing.

14.01.2022 Routine, rules and staying calm are the expert tips for families with children away from daycare or school because of the COVID-19 crisis. http://ow.ly/sjNl30qrJ8n

14.01.2022 Forest Therapy Victoria group experiences have been given the socially distanced green light! The team will be getting together over the next few weeks to resch...edule public walks, corporate and community group walks, plus all ability walks. Limited to ten people and with a slightly altered program, these experiences help reduce stress and anxiety, improve blood pressure, improve immune systems, and increase appreciation for the healing properties of nature. Sign up to the newsletter or follow the Facebook page to stay in the loop. Now, perhaps more than ever, we need to be doing all we can to look after our mental health, and the wellbeing of those we love. http://www.foresttherapyvictoria.com.au See you under the trees!

11.01.2022 An update from MGA Counselling Services (27th July 2020): MGA meets all social distancing requirements and thus is still able to offer face to face sessions, with some additional measures: 1. All clients in 14 day quarantine will need to have their session via Skype, Zoom or phone. This also applies to those who are unwell or are over seventy years of age. ... 2. All clients coming to the rooms for appointments will be required to thoroughly wash/sanitise their hands on arrival and wear face masks at all times (unless there is an underlying medical condition). Temperature checks will be conducted on entry to the centre. 3. The waiting room at both locations are now closed. If coming for a face to face appointment, please text 0478 651 951 from your car to let me know you've arrived. I'll text you after the previous appt has finished to let you know it is safe to enter. 4. All surfaces in the counselling room will be disinfected after EVERY session. Windows will remain open to ensure good ventilation. 5. Your counsellor will sit in the seat farthest from you. You still get to pick what seat you want! 6. Of course, no handshakes on arrival! 7. Sessions can be held outside on the forest therapy trail if you'd still like face to face but not in a room. For clients preferring to have sessions by phone or online, just let us know before hand. I will still be in the counselling rooms to ensure your confidentiality. Make sure it's a confidential space at your end too. Skype: rev_matt_glover Phone/face time: 0478 651 951 Zoom and Facetime also available Concession rates will be offered to all small business owners or those in financial hardship. Most importantly, in these times of uncertainty and high anxiety, please take extra time to look after your own mental health and well-being. Self care is really important in times like these. It’s important to continue doing the work with your counsellor if at all possible. I look forward to taking this journey with you over the coming months. Best Regards, Matt Glover MGA Counselling Services *** Please share as appropriate ***

02.01.2022 HSP? Lead the way...

02.01.2022 This photo was taken while sitting at my desk today. It’s the inside of a 40cm diameter terrarium that my son put together as part of a trial workshop we did in... preparation for running wellbeing retreats after Covid is gone. Lots of mental, physical and spiritual health benefits are known to come from nurturing indoor plants. Nurturing a whole eco-system takes it to another level!! We can’t go outside much at the moment, so why not bring the outside inside?!

01.01.2022 *** Please share widely with your networks - thank you! *** An MGA Counselling Services update. MGA is still operating as per normal, but with strict infection control and social distancing measures in place and the offer of Telehealth if required or requested.... As the social distancing measures continue, the strain of being at home and removed from our normal communities and social supports will start to take their toll. Particularly on mental health and relationships. MGA has expanded it's operating hours to offer more sessions to more people during COVID-19. Please don't wait until things get out of control, but be proactive if you think you're at risk or starting to slide. Book some sessions to learn new strategies for managing mental health at home, for keeping relationships on track during isolation, or to come on an individual forest therapy walk and experience how nature can help keep things in balance for you. Our normal full fee and concession rates apply. However, we have added a special "virus rate" for those who have lost jobs or income. Additionally, if you need help but simply can't afford anything - we will see you for free. Still get in touch and book yourself a session. Stay safe, and healthy.
