22.01.2022 Dental occlusion, AKA a person’s bite refers to the relationships between the upper and lower teeth when the mouth is closed In other words, occlusion describes how the teeth fit together. Malocclusion refers to irregular alignment of the teeth (spacing, crowding, etc.) and/or incorrect bite/jaw relationships. Improper bite has the potential to cause problems with chewing, swallowing, speech, and has been associated with TMJ Problems. Malocclusion occurs in at least 70% of the population ! So although you may have relatively straight teeth, you bite may be way off ! Take a look at the examples below to see if you fit into any of the categories.
