09.01.2022 Almost half of Australian women suffer from anxiety or depression. This is a horrible statistic, but hardly surprising! Pulled between the competing demands of work, kids and ageing parents women feel lacking in accomplishment in any area. (Never mind not being able to scrape a minute of time for themselves.)... I am sure that you can empathise. For entrepreneurs it is even worse inability to have any divide between work and personal time, and the stress of bringing in an income mean life is one big treadmill. (Of course, there are good things too, but I need to paint the picture.) The impact of depression can be completely debilitating especially if there is no sick leave to fall back on. If you working for yourself and you are not able to bring in business the well quickly dries up. Yes, I have helped many of my clients with good income protection policies. Over the course of the year, I have supported an amazing woman with an income protection claim. She shares I’m the last person who I believe could get depression. But I was so focused on the business and looking after everyone, I didn’t see myself going downhill. Without the insurance policy, I can’t imagine what she would have done. With income coming in every month she can at least focus on her recovery and not her next mortgage payment. So yes, income protection insurance is critical. If you don’t have it, please get in touch don’t put it off. But I want more for my clients. I don’t want it to reach this point. I have recently read a book called ‘Lost Connections’ by Johann Hari which I found incredibly insightful. In the words of Emma Thompson The most exciting thing that I have read this year. If you have a tendency to depression or not, this is really one to read. Contrary to what you might expect, it is quite enjoyable but more importantly, it provides you with some amazing tools to look after yourself (and others).
