19.01.2022 Last week, Year 11 Visual Art students took their first steps into the Year 12 General Visual Art course, by attending a full day Artist in Residence workshop experience. Contemporary Indigenous artist and finalist in the NATSIA (The National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art) Award, Australia's longest running Indigenous art award held recently in Darwin, Dylan Sarra delivered an inspiring three sessions; an artist's talk on his work Three Boomerangs (which was piece ...entered in the printmaking section of the awards) and which told a story related to Dylan's ancestry, in particular his great grand father, and two hands-on sessions where students explored the use of traditional indigenous organic media, such as ochre and cotton grass, in the making of small experimental artworks of their own. The focus of the day was to inspire students to tell their own narratives through art, which is the key stimulus for their first assessment task in Year 12. It was a beautiful day so students were able to be outside and enjoy a yarn with Dylan and their art teachers, Scott Barnard and Karen Markey, while considering possible personal stories for their future artmaking. 16.01.2022 TODAY is R U OK?Day, a reminder to start a conversation that could change a life today, tomorrow and any day it's needed. Learn what to say after R U OK? so you can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. It is so important for everyone to know that it is okay to not be okay. Everyone has good and bad days, tough days and easy days. We need to normalise not being okay because we are not always okay and that is perfectly fine. ... At Miami High we have we have amazing guidance officers who are here for all our students if they are not okay and don’t feel comfortable talking to a friend. Mr Atkins is our senior guidance officer and Mrs Coleman is our junior guidance officer It is not weak to not be okay, you are human and your feelings are valid. If you have a day where you do not feel okay try reaching out to someone you trust and know will listen and will be supportive. #ruokday
