03.01.2022 PATIENT STORY - 23 yr old female After suffering from a pulse rate >110 for almost two weeks and seeing another GP who dismissed her symptoms, a new patient contacted our practice for help. This patient is young, female and in good health so it didnt make sense for her to be in constant sinus tachycardia. After consulting with Dr Osborne and having an urgent CT scan, she was diagnosed with a rare condition called Pheochromocytoma. This condition causes a tumour to grow ins...ide the adrenal glands. These glands make epinephrine and norepinephrine, which generally keep your heart rate and blood pressure normal. A pheochromocytoma causes the adrenal glands to make too much of these hormones, causing the blood pressure and pulse to be continuously elevated to produce a constant tachycardia. This patient was incredibly relieved today to finally have some answers and was able to begin treatment immediately. We are very proud of our doctors.
