25.01.2022 This Saturday and every Saturday Koah Farmers Market the hour of power 9 to 10.30am

25.01.2022 FOR SALE: A HOUSE AND GARDEN LIKE NO OTHER Offered for the first time to the market, this truly amazing 2.6 acre property with parkland on one side & frontage to the Barron River at the rear but still walking distance to shops and schools, can only be described as 'a one-of-a-kind, paradise'! The current owners, retired landscapers & organic food growers, have over many years built & created a property that has to be seen to be believed.... The centerpiece, a quality custom built, spanish style home, 327m2 under roof is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens complete with water features and pathways to lose yourself in. If growing your own organic food and being self-sufficient is important, then you will be impressed with at least 183 tropical, nut and exotic fruit trees to pick from and perfect designated areas to grow your own herbs and vegetables. Still outside, the large private back patio has stone seating overlooking a separate pergola and volcanic rock (some as long as 3m) that make up the fire pit area, all ideal places for entertaining or just relaxing with a drink in hand and enjoying the abundance of birds & butterflies. Inside and just like outside, the features are too long to list but here are some just to name a few; beautiful high bamboo ceiling and blackbutt timber floors in the living, generous size kitchen with granite benchtops and black wattle cupboard doors as well as bifold servery window. 3 generous size bedrooms serviced by a main bathroom whilst the master bedroom with a walk-in-robe has an amazing ensuite where you feel like you showering outdoors alongside an enclosed private fernery. If all this was not enough, attached to the main residence but with a separate entrance is a self contained guest room or granny flat featuring a 3rd bathroom and separate kitchenette perfect for extended family, visitors staying the night or paying B&B clients. 25.01.2022 Just wanted to share how great Madagascar / Lima Bean is at creating a quick, dense screen! I haven’t harvested many beans yet but it’s only in it’s first year, apparently production ramps up in the second

24.01.2022 Mareeba Seedsavers and Gardening Group meeting yesterday was very popular with people coming from all over NQ. Great to get together at long last.

23.01.2022 An assassin bug, a predator on the basil this morning.

21.01.2022 Harvested some decent carrots for a change!

21.01.2022 Looks like it’s rollinia for dinner tonight tree ripened.

21.01.2022 Some fruit and flowers this week, rollinia custard apple (immature), black sapotes, noni fruit, pawpaws, and yellow sapotes. Last are honey bee basil.

21.01.2022 We’ve been planting some natives and fruit trees the last few days. We’ve noticed that as soon as we mulch them, with the heat we are having, they get burnt. Michael thinks that with climate change and the mulch being close to them, the heat is reflecting off the mulch. We’ve had to put mesh guards with shade cloth on the small plants. It’s not happening to the larger plants.

20.01.2022 Granadilla flowers and fruit.

20.01.2022 Michael and I have made the difficult decision to downsize to a smaller block in Mareeba so are offering our beautiful property for sale. It will be interesting to see how self-sufficient we can be on a quarter acre block! We hope the new owners will enjoy the property as much as we do and reap its many rewards daily with its abundance organic bounty and birdlife.

19.01.2022 Planning this year didn't work that well, So I'm getting in early for 2021 already!! Exactly what the world needs during this time of transition!!

18.01.2022 When raw vegans get together to share delicious and nutritious food.. :) https://rawveganpath.com

18.01.2022 Some garden photos I took today, some things going into flower now, the last of the lettuce, hoping the mango flowers will survive the bit of drizzle we’ve had, sweetleaf growing well right through winter and more. From Lindy.

17.01.2022 Some info on dragonfruit. These steel posts were bedded in concrete mix, as the posts in the ground we did 10 years ago collapsed with the weight.

17.01.2022 Mareeba market on next Saturday 12th September, Michael will be there with potted fruit trees and perennial vegetables and herbs. There’ll be some organic produce and come check out the insect motels to encourage native solitary bees to your garden. Our stall is near the entrance from the car park. Hope to see you there.

17.01.2022 The Mareeba seedsavers and gardening group meeting previously advertised has been postponed due to reintroduced restrictions on numbers.

16.01.2022 Purple long beans, acid free cucumbers and corn planted together.

14.01.2022 We have attended our final Mareeba and Yungaburra markets recently and we’d like to thank all of the people who have supported us over the last few years. We are discontinuing the nursery and our remaining plants are available from our home until stock runs out. May your gardens be abundant and bring you lots of joy!

13.01.2022 Clearing out the summer vegetables to make way for putting in seeds of winter ‘normal ‘ vegetable crops. Leaf ginseng and salad mallow coming out.

12.01.2022 A video of some of our orchard trees in spring.

11.01.2022 Michael has made some great pickers for tall pawpaws, (as long as the pawpaws are not too squashed together). Made from 100 and 150 mm storm water pipe cutoffs which are called. The last photo is the forked and pointy sticks and tent poles we use to prop up leaning banana plants when they have a bunch on.

09.01.2022 A loaded mandarin tree at our friends place in Atherton. Citrus season!!

09.01.2022 The Mareeba State Primary school Community Garden on this cold Tuesday morning.

07.01.2022 Yungaburra market on this Saturday and we’ll be there with potted fruit trees and perennial vegetables. We’ll have organic produce such as lettuce, herbs, green mixes, kale, eggplant, turmeric, bulk turmeric, jaboticabas, cherry tomatoes, passionfruit, capsicums, and more. Also silverbeet and tomatoes from Steve. We’ll have some pond fish, and come check out the insect motels which encourage solitary native bees to your garden. Stall F4/5 near the service station entrance. Hope to see you there.

07.01.2022 This is on the upper Tablelands on the Millstream.

06.01.2022 GREEN SAPOTE. It has become one of my favourite fruits, similar to the Mammey sapote. The flavour reminds me of sweet potatoe more moist but sweeter, it took 7 years to bare,it produced a good crop this season. The fruits take 13 to 14 months to mature.

05.01.2022 Spondias dulcis, ambarella or hog plum is a very pleasant tasting fruit, can be tart if not eaten yellow and ripe. It has a fibrous seed and the leaves can be eaten, preferably when young. There is also a dwarf variety.

04.01.2022 Getting good results from the beetroot and tomatoes this year but the carrots don’t want to straighten up and some are huggers.

04.01.2022 Capsicums and eggplant doing well at the moment. The smaller variety of capsicum plants can last for one to two years.

04.01.2022 Yellow is a dominant colour in our garden right now. The plants are all smiling with the beautiful gentle, nurturing and soaking rain that we have had lately, I am so grateful.

03.01.2022 27th November, Koah Hall.

01.01.2022 Some of the great fruits we have on at the moment. Front right are persimmons, (astringent with no seeds), ackees, and monsteria deliciosa.

01.01.2022 Garden hints with Michael.
