23.01.2022 More work of the master Chris Mullins, the silversmith in the workshop although these are all made from aluminium. Anodised bowls, each made from a single sheet of metal which has been shaped, folded, and bent to give each one its form. The round bowl had a cable holding the form in place. The square and pentagonal bowls use rivets. . . #silversmith #aluminium #bowl #anodised #anodisedaluminium #waggajeweller #handmade #handcrafted

22.01.2022 Tea caddies, from the little master silversmith in the workshop Chris Mullins. Sterling silver and anodised aluminium. Quite a lot of silver in these and very labour intensive. . . #handcrafted #handmade #waggajeweller #silver #teacaddies #silversmith #anodized #aluminium

19.01.2022 Got a new toy today. To those interested in jewellery it won’t mean much but for tool nerds it’s an exciting addition to any kit. It’s a pneumatic hand engraving tool, used for fine decoration, monograms, gem setting, and a few other things. It’s a work of art in itself. The man, @lindsayengraving, must have enormous pride in the equipment he supplies, evidenced by the engraving he applies to each piece. I used one of these tools when I did the engraving course with @rbaptiste_engraver_watchmaker in May last year. His inspiration, education and encouragement helped expand my skill set. I hope I can display some of that new style over the coming years. I’m still a bit rough around the edges yet. #jeweller #handmadejewelry #handmadejewellery #handengraver #handengraving #lindsayengraving #waggajeweller

18.01.2022 Diamonds, all 1ct in weight. Some cuts just look bigger than others. From the left - cushion, radiant, emerald and princess cuts. . #diamonds #diamond #gem #gems #gemstone #jewelry #jewellery #waggajeweller

14.01.2022 Something simple. And it imparts a simple elegance when worn. A lapel pin in 9ct yellow gold with a hand engraved initial and diamond. Bring them back. . #handcrafted #handmade #handengraved #gold #diamond #lapelpin #waggajeweller

14.01.2022 Soooo. The winner was the top left, as always it’s the customers choice. A slight rotation with the main diamond off centre was the only real change from the original choices. All materials were repurposed as they say these days - they were rings. It’s about 30mm in diameter, all diamonds, white gold. . #handmade #handcrafted #handmadejewelry #handmadejewellery #diamonds #whitegold #pendant #waggajeweller #waggajewellers #the_jewellers_studio

12.01.2022 Day2. Photo one is the pattern I am engraving. It’s a design by Roland Baptiste, master engraver. I felt progress was slow but Roland told me I was on schedule. It was much more time consuming than I gave credit for. Roland says that it takes 4-5 days to design and engrave a watch dial, which this is although as a learning piece it’s a centimetre bigger than the normal 3-3.5cm. Today I finished cutting the outline of the design (with a few errors). Once completed I started ...to remove the background - the shiny and black parts. The shiny parts are then stippled to make them darker in colour. I’m suppose to have it finished tomorrow. We shall see. @monarchjeweller - no ink in the black. @ RBaptiste See more

11.01.2022 Before and after, of sorts. Art-deco inspired, 18ct yellow and white gold, diamonds and pink sapphires - all repurposed. Hand made. . #handmade #handcrafted #diamond #diamonds #diamondring #sapphire #gold #artdeco #waggajeweller

11.01.2022 Day 4. With master engraver Roland Baptiste. I did a little more on my watch face but we moved on and today I learnt how to create a wildlife scene. The level of detail required depends on the size of the piece but Roland's father said to me if it looks like a duck then it probably is a duck (it was indeed a duck) so make sure it doesn't get lost in the detail. 1. The original image of which I'm extracting the duck. Outlined using Procreate on an iPad Pro. 2. The extracted ou...tline. 3. Scaled to the required size using Affinity Designer (it's like Illustrator) on a Mac and printed using a modified laser printer on to clear film. 4. Laser print after transfer to the metal plate. Just cut those lines and it looks like a duck. 5. Outline cut and the commencement of shading. (It didn't take all day to do this. I had to leave early because of a prior engagement with Hugh Jackman in Cologne). #handengraving #handengravingcourse #RBaptiste #learning #verviersbelgium @ Verviers

10.01.2022 Day 3. with master engraver Roland Baptiste. I'm turning it into a sample piece with sections showing the stages (because I'm too slow). I'm really surprised at the time it takes. This morning I finished the background removal of half of the design. In the afternoon I started the shading - a series of fine cuts and cross cuts to give the illusion of shading, depth and form. It looks a bit rough in the photo and there are quite a few mistakes and technical errors but in real life it doesn't look too bad. #gome #handengraving #handengravingcourse #scroll #scrollwork #RBaptiste #learning @ RBaptiste

08.01.2022 Day 5. With master engraver Roland Baptiste. A day of learning more than completion. I did more to create a scene for the duck but we mostly discussed and experimented with different subjects, techniques, tools, materials and stuff. It was a great week of learning and I recommend anyone with a passion to learn and develop their skills at engraving to contact Roland and book in a time. 1. Essentially my "finished" duck. As much as I needed to do to learn the method for engra...ving imagery. One method at least. I'm impressed with myself. It's my very first attempt at cross hatching to get a figure. 2. An attempt to add scenery. There are different rules for drawing grass and drawing clouds. The grass is one of the hardest things I've ever done. Apparently you can't just scratch some lines and call it grass. Who knew there was so much science to drawing and engraving grass? The little tuft is 9mm wide. 3. A close up of the tuft. Engraving in the shadows is important to the overall appearance. 4. And...Rolands work. Two methods of engraving. The top is the same as mine; cross hatch engraving. And the bottom is a stippled dot method. The cross hatch gives a more durable engraving where as the stippled method gives a more detailed image and is more forgiving to errors while engraving. And that's it for my week in Verviers, Belgium with Roland Baptiste. @rbaptiste_engraver_watchmaker #handengraving #handengravingschool #handengravingcourse #learning @ Verviers See more

07.01.2022 A big, bright, yellow diamond. Its a princess cut but rectangular rather than square although I've done my best to look it, partly with the use of an 18 carat yellow gold bezel. The rest is in platinum. I like to rotate square stones - it draws the eye more to the centre of the ring. Chopping the corners of the white diamond halo has also made the setting look a little more compact. All handmade. . #handmade #handcrafted #handmadejewelry #handmadejewellery #waggajeweller #waggajewellers #platinum #diamond #diamonds #ring #the_jewellers_studio

05.01.2022 On holidays so I decided to work. Well, learn something regarding work. I’m doing an engraving course in Belgium with master engraver Roland Baptiste. A sample of my effort on the first day. #engraving #handengraving #handengravingcourse @ Verviers

03.01.2022 A sample of Roland's work. 1. A print made from metal engraving. Gun plates measuring 3cm at their widest. An incredible level of detail. 2. A close-up of the original in metal. 3. A close-up of the print. 4. A sampler and reference plate. Unfortunately the photo doesn't resolve the detail at its finest.... #handengraved #handengraver #RBaptiste #masterengraver @ RBaptiste See more

03.01.2022 A simple piece - sterling silver tie bar with timber inlay. The timber was supplied so I’m not sure of the type. I just cut a section that I thought would be interesting. #silver #sterlingsilver #mensjewellery #mensjewelry #timberjewellery #tiebar #handcrafted #handmade #waggajeweller

02.01.2022 A cocktail ring (known as a dress ring in another time). It's difficult to impress how dynamic in form this ring is. Designed during my phase of exploring symmetry in assymetry. Or combining the two at least. An Australian sapphire which hasn't photographed as blue as it really is. It's combined with a stepped graduating set of diamonds surrounded by a 'halo' of small diamonds. Handmade in 18ct gold. . . #handcrafted #handmade #diamonds #sapphire #cocktailring #gold #waggajeweller @ Michael Nugent - Jewellery Manufacturer

01.01.2022 Pink diamonds. All from the Argyle mine in Western Australia. It’s expected to close later this year and as such demand and pricing is increasing. They are pretty special and these aren’t even the bright pinks. On very rare occasions a red one pops up. These are all available if you are interested and without trying to sound like I’m pushing the hard sell, they really moving quickly. @ Michael Nugent - Jewellery Manufacturer

01.01.2022 What does the perfectly cut diamond look like? Under a special viewer, it has arrows when you look through the top and hearts when you look through the bottom. The Hearts and Arrows cut. When looking at a decent sized diamond you can see the difference in quality between an expertly cut diamond and those that are cut with less care. Cut is one of the 4Cs of diamond quality. The others being colour, clarity, and carat weight. . #diamond #diamonds #heartsandarrowsdiamonds #waggajeweller #waggajewellers
