23.01.2022 Robyn and I got an invite to the pre-screening of Michael Dillons Ocean To Sky, in Sydney last night. Its a movie about the adventure from the Bay of Benga...l right up the Ganges River to a summit in the Himalayas, that he filmed back in 1977 with Sir Edmund Hillary and Jon Hamilton (son of the jet boat inventor). Currently its in cinemas in NZ (Go see it if you havent regardless of your interest in jet boats.) Ed Hillary stated it was the best adventure he ever did... not a bad accolade for a mountaineer. It was Mikes passion as a budding filmmaker to be involved in the event in the first place and this movie is a direct result of his passion to enlighten us more. Passion makes great movies and Mikes done a fantastic job. Like the waters of the upper reaches of the river on this three month odyssey, its a rollercoaster of emotions and shows a side of the expedition never before seen! Congrats Mike! For Kiwis - get out and see it before it slips under the radar and for Australians, stay tuned - Mikes hoping to have it in cinemas in the near future! See more

07.01.2022 Only a few days till the 67th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest. The gods chose two very special and humble people to be the first. This is probably th...e last photo taken of Hillary and Tenzing together, and taken at the airstrip that was subsequently named in their honour. I had just filmed them both being guests of honour at the 30th Anniversary of their climb at Khumjung School 1983. Tenzing passed away two years later. Google the Australian Himalayan Foundation for their special celebration event and lets all remember and support the people of Nepal who are doing it particularly tough right now. See more

01.01.2022 Today is #EverestDay. 67 years ago, on 29th May 1953, New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepali Tenzing Norgay became the first people to stand on the summit ...of Mt Everest. After achieving this incredible feat, Sir Ed dedicated himself to helping the people who made it possible. He built schools, hospitals, bridges, and water supplies in the Everest region of Nepal, and founded the Himalayan Trust to ensure this vital work continued. Thank you to all our supporters for being part of his legacy. Photo: Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on Mt Everest, 1953 (Royal Geographical Society, S0001055)
