25.01.2022 Tasmanians will benefit if we all focus on the things that matter. Not meaningless stunts. Be assured I am working as part of the Liberal team for you and your family, every day.

25.01.2022 The Liberal Government is delivering for our future generations.

24.01.2022 I'm so grateful to be Tasmanian. Are you too? Make It In Tasmania is a new doco promotion of our sovereign capability: the things we can grow, make and create. It's about our land, and the things it can produce. It's about our people, and the things we can do. It's about our future. Please WATCH and SHARE! Spread the word!... Congratulations Jayne Montague and Rick Fontyn for this fabulous initiative.

23.01.2022 What is going on with "THE LOOK"? Watch our new ad below SHARE to get the road safety message out there. See the : https://www.rsac.tas.gov.au/campaign/real-mates20/

22.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came down for parkrun Australia this morning. More people than last week! Also pretty happy with a Fergo personal best result. I'd love to see more of my Facebook friends come along next week and walk, run or jog for your health. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers for making it possible! ... 22.01.2022 Fatigue is one of the 'fatal five' contributors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads. Driving tired is dangerous - if you feel tired pull over and take a ...break. A delay in your travel is better than falling asleep behind the wheel, crashing, and seriously injuring or killing yourself or someone else. #TrafficTuesday

22.01.2022 Keep on truckin! My quick chat with Sarah Brosnan... Just brilliant. #GratefulMinister

22.01.2022 Deputy Police Commissioner Scott Tilyard is to be appointed Chair of the Tasmanian Road Safety Advisory Council. With such a long and distinguished career with Tasmania Police, I know that he has the skills and experience to provide strong leadership for RSAC. He will be a valuable asset as we work to improve road safety.

21.01.2022 Today’s official opening of Tasmanian Stockfeed Services’ new stockfeed mill in Devonport is another fantastic example of a project that is speeding up our economic recovery as we rebuild a stronger Tasmania. The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to have supported this expansion with a $6 million commercial loan to help fund this new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. This is aimed squarely at supporting new local jobs and building on Tasmania’s reputation for excellence in agriculture and manufacturing - and reinforces our message that Tasmania is open for business.

20.01.2022 A great morning out with my friends at Windsor Precinct parkrun this morning! Who will give it a go for the first time next Saturday? Walk, jog, run its entirely up to you... Don't forget to register online.

20.01.2022 I'm among 170,000 pushuperers raising much-needed funds for mental health. So far, more than $5 million has been raised, which is awesome! I've selected Lifeline Tasmania as the beneficiary of any donations to my effort. It's a terrific challenge - to see how and who is helped, click here: https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/our-impact... https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au/pushuperer/158886

19.01.2022 Recent winners Show us your Australia competition, Bridestowe Lavender Farm. An amazing spot to visit all year round. December and January is peak time to see in full purple bloom. Visit Kim and the team for a tour and treat yourself to a signature lavender infused ice cream or famous lavender scones.

18.01.2022 Yay! Clifford Craig Foundation Run & Walk for your Heart

18.01.2022 This is one of the loveliest cards I've received this Christmas. From a young girl who won one of my sponsored "Michael Ferguson Young Leader's Awards" during the year. Ticks all my boxes: as a local MP, family man, teacher. This is exactly why I do my encouragement awards for local school students in Bass. I hope to meet Cleo and her family real soon!... Merry Christmas back at ya Cleo!

18.01.2022 It's an honour to be sworn in today and to continue to serve you. While I have significant Statewide responsibilities with additional Ministerial work, my team and I will always be here to help you with local issues. #alwayshereforyou

18.01.2022 We all improve our health if we all take the next step! It was great to see large numbers of people in our community getting healthier at the annual Clifford Craig Foundation 5km Run and Walk for Your Heart. And I just love the fact that it was really about getting out and moving at our own pace, not just a competition. Look at these Health(y) Ministers!... Sarah Courtney MP Clifford Craig Foundation Run & Walk for your Heart

17.01.2022 The Civil Contractors Federation - Tasmania is an important stakeholder as the Tasmanian Government unleashes our massive infrastructure spend. We'll continue to be side by side as we deliver an unprecedented roads and bridges program in all regions of the State. Friday's catch up provided me with the opportunity to commend and thank outgoing president Hugh Maslin - who has been a great partner as we support the growth of this key sector - as well as present the Safety at Roadworks award to Shaw Contracting for their work at the Mowbray Connector.

17.01.2022 We've locked in 1700 construction jobs to upgrade the TasPorts Port of Devonport. This huge port upgrade at the Spirit of Tasmania and SeaRoad terminals delivers a 40 per cent increase in our freight capacity

17.01.2022 Please take care on the roads during National Road Safety Week, and always. #DriveSOS #NRSW

17.01.2022 The Tasmanian Liberal Government committed at the 2014 state election to provide funding to bring high quality mobile and data connections to Flinders Island. Today, Flinders enjoys a state-of-the-art microwave radio link, 83 kilometres of newly installed fibre optic cable and eight mobile sites across its islands. It's a far cry from just a few years ago when it had an inadequate and aged radio network that acted effectively as a brake on the island's many industries and wider economy.

17.01.2022 I caught up with these Launceston legends this week to say "Thank you". "Legends?" I hear you ask! Leigh Ratcliffe and Tim Gambles are both local musicians, with a difference.... Tim just ran 104km in 24 hours around his own self made track to raise over $10,000 for breast cancer research (Love Your Sister). Tim did this incredible ultra marathon with the tremendous support of Leigh and a whole bunch of other musos and local business sponsors. Leigh has been working throughout the pandemic to bring Launceston's incredible talent to our screens, and raised over $15,000 for fellow musicians who couldn't earn an income, especially some non-citizen musos who don't have access to Centrelink payments. So I wanted to say thanks to these guys for their wonderful and inspiring efforts by taking them to lunch. I like to do this as a Bass representative. BTW - if you are impressed as I was, you can still support the fundraiser before it closes! The link is here: https://lys-fundies.giveeasy.org//anges-kickin-it-24-hou/

16.01.2022 Strong progress has been made on the $46 million Midway Point Intersection Solution, an important part of the Australian and Tasmanian Governments’ strategy to improve travel on the Tasman Highway. Work is now well underway in clearing the path for the upgrade, which will see the existing roundabout replaced by signals and the current two-lane highway increased to dual lane in both directions - reducing delays and queuing. With Michael McCormack MP and Senator Jonathon Duniam

16.01.2022 Supporting our community to get closer to local producers through the Tasmanian Produce Collective. Fresh and local!

15.01.2022 Move over Slow Down. Protect those who protect us by slowing down and giving them the space need to stay safe. This includes police, emergency services, roadside assistance, traffic controllers, tow trucks and other 'vehicles as a work place' workers #DriveSoS #NRSW

15.01.2022 The Tasmanian Liberal Government and Morrison Government are working together to deliver more housing for women and children fleeing violence. Housing Choices Tasmania will deliver 32 much needed homes in Granton and Rosetta as part of an unprecedented investment into public housing and home affordability by both tiers of Government. Our record investment of $615 million into social and affordable housing, and homelessness initiatives, including our record election commitment of $280 million will result in an extra 2000 homes by 2027. This is on top of the 1,500 already being built over the next three years. with Senator Anne Ruston

14.01.2022 The Tasmanian Liberal Government has boosted the Digital Ready for Business program, with an extra $650,000 in funding this year. It was great to be joined today by Maria Bond from the Wedding Ceremony Store who discussed how she has benefitted from the program.

14.01.2022 The Tasmanian Government is charging ahead and securing Tasmania’s renewable energy future with a $2.6 million investment for the feasibility of three large-scale renewable hydrogen projects in Tasmania. Tasmania is well placed to become Australia’s renewable hydrogen epicentre, with the potential to inject billions into our economy and create thousands of Tasmanian jobs, many in regional areas.

14.01.2022 Small grants of $750 to support family businesses to obtain professional advice with business continuity and recovery. You can apply here: https://www.business.tas.gov.au//small_business_continuity

14.01.2022 Wonderful to catch up with Guy Barnett and Garry Ivory at today's special remembrance service for all who served and defended our magnificent country Australia at sea, in both war and peacetime. #JusticeForTeddy #LestWeForget

13.01.2022 This is a Budget to lead our recovery, reinvigorate our economy and rebuild a stronger Tasmania.

13.01.2022 A free app and website are now available providing real-time fuel price reporting, helping Tasmanians avoid paying too much for fuel. Motorists can search for fuel by location, price and fuel type or brand. Fuel retailers are required to update fuel prices in real time, creating more competition and improving price transparency. To start finding lower prices for fuel near you, go to, www.fuelcheck.tas.gov.au.

13.01.2022 Applications open today for our new $60 million Business Growth Loans Scheme. The additional support is to help Tasmanian businesses recover, adapt and grow. I visited Richard Hopkins at Houston's Farm at Cambridge to detail how the low-interest loans of between $20,000 and $3 million will boost jobs and investment.

13.01.2022 To support our tourism industry and help meet demand for rental cars over the peak holiday period, insurance premiums for new hire cars will be reduced for a limited time. We have reached agreement with the Motor Accident Insurance Board to provide Class 8 coverage for the cost of Class 1 during the Christmas and January holiday period, applicable to the first 500 cars brought into the hire and drive market. In addition, the car sharing app, Car Next Door, is now accredited in Tasmania, further increasing vehicle hire availability.

12.01.2022 This is a budget for our times, underpinning jobs and providing the certainty and confidence our community needs. It is how we will recover, reinvigorate our economy and rebuild a stronger Tasmania. Check out our full 2020-21 Budget here: www.premier.tas.gov.au/budget_2020

12.01.2022 Julie and I enjoyed a nice walk around the Gorge and back home. A boy walking on the path approaches with a yellow and black scarf. Me: "Good luck on Saturday dude, go the Tigers!"... Boy: Looks confused. Julie: "Michael that boy was dressed up as Harry Potter for book week. He had a wand."

10.01.2022 Young people in the North are benefiting from new investments at StudentWorks. High school students who attend can continue their "hands on" studies in commercial cooking with this beautiful new kitchen funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund and the WD Booth Estate. As Bass MP I was glad to attend and support this worthy organisation which is doing such a good job supporting our young people!

09.01.2022 I'm so very, very sad for the tragic loss of life and road trauma that has happened today. This is an absolute tragedy for everyone involved and their loved ones. In our Tasmanian community this will be felt deeply by many for many years to come. Let's be especially kind to each other right now as we are again reminded just how precious and fragile life is. Stay safe. Michael.

09.01.2022 I support more people getting out with organised sport. And there's an option near you! It was my pleasure to join with Bridget Archer MP - Liberal Member for Bass, Jo Palmer MLC, Albert van Zetten, and Rosemary Armitage MLC to help open the bowls season for Trevallyn Bowls and Community Club, "the Friendly Club", yesterday. Sporting clubs means physical activity at whatever level you're ready for. They are also great for social connection and a place to enjoy the company of ...like-minded people in or community. I wish all of our bowls clubs a happy and successful season.

09.01.2022 This year’s Budget includes a landmark $5 billion infrastructure investment to support 25,000 jobs, strengthening confidence and our communities.

08.01.2022 Mental Health Week highlights the role we all play in looking after our own mental health and supporting others to do the same. It’s an opportunity to get out and about, reconnect with your local community, check in with friends and family, and participate in events or join in online to support your mental health and wellbeing. Visit http://www.mhct.org/mentalhealthweek for the full program of events across the State

08.01.2022 Stay safe on our roads. Every fatality is heartbreaking. Our emergency services today launched a new social media campaign, funded by the Road Safety Advisory Council.

08.01.2022 I hold these committed cyclists in great admiration for enduring this arduous race in such horrible cold, wet and windy conditions today! Congratulations to all the competitors and thanks too the volunteers too!

07.01.2022 Rock climbers in the Gorge! #LoveYourLonnie

07.01.2022 Merry Christmas!

07.01.2022 In a further boost for jobs, the new Bridgewater Bridge has become the first to be declared a Major Project under the Tasmanian Liberal Government's landmark legislation. The largest single transport infrastructure project in Tasmania's history is firmly on track.

07.01.2022 The Tasmanian Liberal Government, in partnership with the Australian Government, is driving ahead with our landmark $5 billion infrastructure program the largest ever by a Tasmanian Government which includes future-proofing our roads and bridges for growth. In response to the economic impacts of COVID-19, we added an additional stimulus of $74 million, over two years, to our roads and bridges capital program. This Budget will deliver a $485 million investment in our state roads across Tasmania this year - a substantial and ambitious increase on the $278 million invested in roads last year.

06.01.2022 The Tasmanian Liberal Government is levelling the playing field for the taxi and ride-sourcing industries, while providing consumers with more choice and improved quality of service and safety. We recognise the impact the changing environment has on the taxi industry, with the introduction of the ride-sourcing sector, which is why we are assisting the industry to adapt. I'm tabling a Bill in Parliament this week, which is an extensive and thorough rewrite of the outdated legal framework. I am particularly grateful to our local taxi industry representatives such as Tony Dilger for their constructive approach as we have worked through this complex puzzle together.

05.01.2022 This week is National Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Week a timely reminder to drive so others survive. We have had a devastating year on our roads, with every death deeply affecting Tasmanian families and entire communities. The Tasmanian Government and Road Safety Advisory Council are working to make our roads safer, in line with our Towards Zero Action Plan 2020-2024, and we want everyone to play their part in helping to reduce serious injuries and fatalities by using our roads safely and responsibly. Sticking to the road rules is essential to keep our roads safe. As part of Road Safety Week this year, there will be a Road Rules Challenge. Entrants can go to www.roadrulechallenge.com.au to complete a multiple choice quiz to go into the draw to win one of six iPads.

05.01.2022 The Liberal Government is supporting tourism on Flinders and King Islands, with new regular passenger flights from Hobart. We're underwriting the service by Sharp Airlines to boost access to the Bass Strait islands. I love Flinders Island - with its pristine surroundings, excellent bushwalking and beautiful secluded beaches.

03.01.2022 We're providing free travel on any Metro bus for senior cardholders with a Greencard from 12 to 18 October. The Tasmanian Liberal Government is helping senior cardholders stay connected with their communities, as a proud supporter of Seniors Week. Thanks to Bus Operator Jody Nichols and Council on the Ageing CEO Sue Leitch for joining me at this morning's launch.

03.01.2022 Applications for our Business Hardship Critical Support Grants are now open for local businesses affected by the recent closure of the Tasman Highway. For more information or to apply, please visit www.business.tas.gov.au//business_hardship_critical_suppor.

03.01.2022 You and your family are now safer, with our brand new Mowbray Connector roundabout completed. No traffic lights! Thanks to everyone for your safe driving while our contractors were doing this work on such a busy location. Now, if we can all take care as we get familiar with the new setup and use the roundabout as intended!... Congratulations to Shaw Contracting for your team's workmanship and traffic management. Safe driving everyone.

03.01.2022 Dom is an inspiration to all!

03.01.2022 Laying this wreath today on behalf of the local community. #ThankYouNavy #LestWeForget

02.01.2022 Sticking to the road rules is essential to keep our roads safe. As part of Road Safety Week this year, there is a Road Rules Challenge. Go to www.roadrulechallenge.com.au to complete a multiple choice quiz to go into the draw to win one of six iPads.

01.01.2022 I'm sad to receive this news. With so many roadworks underway right now, please please please be careful. Let's all support the safety of our people working on our roads and obey the signs.

01.01.2022 Big news: Legana Primary School! Our Tasmanian Liberal Government is building a new primary school at Legana, providing state-of-the-art learning spaces for 350 students AND we've partnered with the West Tamar Council to include a new community sports precinct around the school to enhance school and community facilities for everyone. The new primary school will be co-located with the new community sports precinct at 612 West Tamar Highway Legana through a joint acquisition of... 7.2 hectares of land by the Government and West Tamar Council.
