21.01.2022 There’s nothing quite like an anecdote to kick off a post - because hey, in this case I’ve been there. . I didn’t get prescribed any fancy drugs, or undergo any groovy nutrition and supplement routines - but for a hell of a long time I held onto a hairline which was well past its expiry. . The psychosocial impacts of male pattern baldness are well recognised - and for some it can be incredibly distressing.... . *cue my input regarding how great a decision it was to start shaving my head* . During this distressing time, there’s a good chance someone is going to try and sell you a solution. . It may be medical, it may be holistic. . Propecia is a common go-to - a potent 5AR inhibitor (a mechanism understood to induce MPB). Does it work? In some. But I for one would take responsive erections and a healthy libido over a lack lustre hair saving effort (yes, these are related side effects). . At the minimum anyway, the drug will impact your composition. . You’ve probably heard that your hairline is heavily associated with your testosterone levels, or even specifically your DHT. . Male to male, concentrations of these hormones don’t actually differ all that much. So how can we explain the differentiation in hair lines? . Well that’s the point of this post exactly - we can’t. . 08.01.2022 Defamed and demonised. . And don’t lie, you’ve heard that last line more than once. . I’m by no means condoning consumption of energy drinks, although the misconception associated with their consumption is real.... . So let’s break is down . Caffeine - 160mg. This is equivalent to about two short black. In my opinion, such a consumption will be hardly detrimental in the absence of pre-existing health conditions. Likewise, research supports this. . Vitamin B3, B5, B6 and B12 - essential nutrients for an array of metabolic pathways. In many individuals, these are deficient which is why more often than not a B-complex supplement is recommended. . Taurine - doses higher than desired, although a necessary nutrient for a number of pathways as well as optimal muscular contraction. Taurine is actually present in breast milk. . Ginseng Root - a traditional herb which has been shown to support cognition and sexual function, amongst other benefits. . Inositol - a nutrient/ antioxidant highly effective in treating insulin resistance and highly beneficial for those with menstrual issues/ PCOS. . Guarana - now this is dose and individual dependent. While it can trigger symptoms of anxiety, in most individuals and in the dosages offered by this product it’s usually well tolerated. . Erythritol - best avoided in cases of digestion issues, although well tolerated by most individuals especially those who consume regularly. . Not all that bad, hey? 03.01.2022 My name is Michael Garzia. . On the 22nd of March, 2020 it was announced that my place of business would be closing down indefinitely. . Regardless of operating partially online, I was convinced in such time my clients would continue to train - at least with me in their corner.... . I received the news from a friend, and immediately cut my one-year anniversary date short (sorry Lia). It wasn’t one to remember, sadly. . That night, I received little to no sleep and was incredibly concerned about moving forward. . I reached out to my clients. . The amount who went above and beyond to find a facility/ equipment, and who chose to stick by me was overwhelming. . Promising. . I was excited. I chose to adapt. I continued to coach and slowly re-commenced training for select clients. . Fast forward 10 weeks. . Ten weeks later, my business is placed better than ever. I progressed through this period and worked with some amazing individuals who I wouldn’t have had this not been the case. . What’s this period offered me? . Reassurance. . Reassurance of what the future holds if I hold myself accountable. . Optimism - in regards to what 2020 will hold. . I’ve made more moves in this 10 week period than I have in the last 18 months - and slowly but surely, the big picture will come to life. . Upon gyms re-opening, I’ll be looking to only take a select number of individuals on for Personal Training and/ or Coaching. . 02.01.2022 What’s driving you? . Well that’s the thing. . You’re not always going to have a fire in your belly desiring more and ticking off check lists at the cost of sleep.... . Likewise, you’re not always going to be itching to push every training session to its limits and adhere to your diet like a pro bodybuilder in peak week. . That’s where other elements become important, and where the good are separated from the great. . Enjoying the process. . You can be earning hundreds of thousands of dollars or have the most fool proof plan but whatever it is you’re doing, sustainability is going to be in question unless the process is one you love. . Find a way to sensibly trade off what is best for what’ll yield the best results with sustainability and your well being in mind. . Consistency beats perfection every time. Small, daily wins. . Your goals don’t need to drop jaws especially on the week-to-week. . Find elements of your routines you want to work on and slowly meet the smaller targets which will work into your desired outcomes. . Your success will always be an accumulation of your small wins and habits so it’s vital we recognise the importance of smaller goals which may seem insignificant to some. . These are just a couple of the concepts I’ve touched on with my clients in recent weeks (amongst others) especially during a time where some of our bigger picture goals have been put on hold. It’s ok to not have a specific goal shift your attention to sustainability, little wins and a process your can enjoy. . Just keep moving forward and you’ll find your place. . Michael J.
