22.01.2022 Special thanks to Philip Smith for having @michaellawgroup on InnerFM this weekend! Heres a summary of some of the key startup tips and some we did not get to fit in: ADVISOR/COACH... Eliminate overwhelm. An advisor can help you prioritise your startup tasks in your first year. STRUCTURE CHOICE Choose from company, trust, sole trader and partnership. Company is most popular in Aust because it reduces your personal exposure to risk (company assets are generally separate to yours). LEASE Get advice once you get a heads of agreement because they can sometimes be legally binding. Make sure each party pays their own costs also (sometimes theres a clause that says tenant pays the landlords legals). WEBSITE T&C Limit your liability for errors, virus and cover payment terms. PRIVACY POLICY Collecting emails? Creating databases? Being transparent is important to comply with privacy laws including GDPR if your users are in the EU. NDA Use an NDA to share your ideas with prospective business partners and suppliers. WORKER AGREEMENTS Agreements for your contractors and employees. Classify correctly to avoid penalties.

13.01.2022 If you are deciding between a casual or part-time worker, and are leaning towards hiring a casual as risk free option, here’s what you need to know: 1 casuals have no guaranteed hours while part-time workers have a set working pattern e.g. Tue & Wed weekly. If your employee must work certain work days each week they are likely not a casual 2 casuals usually work irregular hours ... 3 casuals don’t get sick or annual leave 4 casuals can end employment usually without notice 5 casuals may be eligible for unfair dismissal 6 casuals are entitled to 2 unpaid carer’s leave days and 2 days of compassionate leave per occasion 7 casuals get 5 unpaid family and domestic violence leave days in a 12-month period 8 casuals get unpaid community service leave 9 casuals may have the right to covert to full-time or part-time if an Award or Enterprise Agreement allows this long term casuals are casuals that have worked more than 12 months and are eligible for flexible working arrangements and parental leave

12.01.2022 And that’s a wrap for 2020! finishing the year with Sydney’s leading commercial disputes barristers Mark Sneddon & Theresa Phan. When the practice first started, the client service delivery focus was buying, selling and other transactional legal services like business contract drafting and strictly no disputes because it wasn’t deemed a positive use of client time, money or community contribution, especially with a practice solely focussed on setting up Australia’s t...op entrepreneurs, disputes weren’t a focus. Then ... a few really hard working long standing clients, through no fault of their own, ended up in life disrupting business disputes, and suddenly, there was a client need and the practice met it. Theresa and Mark stepped in and have been such an incredible lead for expert commercial advisory and complex commercial disputes thank you both very much, looking forward to working with you through 2021 and beyond.

09.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all! Hope you have an amazing day with loved ones today! Some fun Chrissy facts (source unknown): 1. "Jingle bells" was written for Thanks Giving, not Christmas 2. In the Netherlands, Sinterklaas (Dutch version of Santa Claus) arrives from Spain, not from the North Pole 3. In Germany, Poland, and Ukraine, finding a spider or a spiders web on a Christmas tree is believed to be a harbinger of good luck 4. In Armenia, the traditional Christmas Eve meal consists of fried fish, lettuce and spinach 5. The first artificial Christmas Tree wasnt a tree at all. It was created out of goose feathers that were dyed green
