25.01.2022 Some great options for flowers in shade

25.01.2022 Here is a great little guide on Nutrient Deficiency that you can use to diagnose your plants. As a general fertiliser we recommend Powerfeed, teamed up with Sea...sol. Seasol is made from two species of seaweed - Bull Kelp (Durvillaea potatorum) and Knotted Kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum). It is not, by definition, a fertiliser (as it contains only marginal nitrogen and phosphorus levels), however it is a dynamic plant tonic which improves the root system and increases the reproductive capacity, thereby increasing the number of flowers per plant as well as the flowering season. PowerFeed is a fertiliser. It has a fish base which is fortified with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The ratio of which is 12:1.4:7 respectively. PowerFeed also contains dynamic soil improvers in the form of humic acids. These compounds work at very low rates and are literally like adding liquid composts to the soil. As well as being a quality fertiliser, PowerFeed is also a clay breaker. It stimulates beneficial soil microbial activity and markedly reduces leaching in sandy soils.

24.01.2022 Endemic to Australia, species within the Xanthorrhoea genus (commonly known as Grass Trees) are perhaps some of the most iconic Australian plants. Capable of gr...owing a tremendous sized trunk and flowering with dramatic tall spears of white and yellow flowers-the Grass tree is certainly a fascinating sight and packed full of useful materials. It's no wonder Indigenous Australians made many uses of this species. The flower nectar has been used as a food and drink source and seeds can be ground down to make flour for damper. Additionally, the leaves of this plant produce a hard waterproof resin, which was used to waterproof cables and water carrying vessels while the soft wood of the flower stalk was used as a base for fire drills. Conservation of Xanthorrhoea species throughout Australia is increasingly important as many are threatened by poaching from the wild, land use change and the spread of Phytophthora fungal disease. 04.01.2022 There’s a tree growing in Mawson Park that you’ve probably never seen before. It’s a Brachychiton Bella Donna. This variety, was a chance cross between Brachych...iton acerifolius (Illawarra Flame Tree) and Brachychiton populneus (Kurrajong Tree). It was originally found growing wild in Griffith. This variety can’t reproduce from seed so it has to be grafted. This trees parents are incredibly drought hardy. Kurrajong trees grow wild in dry parts of Australia, and when it gets really dry, the farmers cut off the branches to feed their sheep. Bella Donna, seen here in the photo, has these amazing pink bell like flowers, leading up to Christmas. It grows 5 metres high and 3 metres wide in 20 years. If you own property, or a large garden, this is the perfect tree for you. You could plant one on your nature strip, and it will shade your car all summer long. Lachie has grafted plants for us, here at the nursery. It’s a winner. Nice plants are available now from $49.99. They grow fast, even in these dry conditions. They are evergreen. They attract sheep. #mawsonpark #brachychitonacerifoliusxpopnuleus #rare #grafted #tree #droughthardy #shade #parks #gardens #gardeningaustralia #betterhomesandgardens #timsgardencentre #campbelltown See more
