23.01.2022 What is the best treatment you can give your body? Exercise!! Scientific research proves it over and over again nothing beats its positive impact on maintaining your great health!! Everything works better when you are exercising, your mind is clearer, your blood is stimulated, your bowel works more efficiently, your sugar cravings are reduced your fatigue is decreased, your immune system works better, whilst your happiness and confidence increases.... Exercise is like eating, your body needs to do it everyday. Make time in your schedule to nurture the long term health of your body by choosing to walk to work, to take the stairs, to get to the gym, the pool or go on a bike ride. We are so blessed to be living in a beautiful part of the world that encourages us to move and be healthy.

22.01.2022 Coconut OIl Coconut oil contains lauric and caprylic acid that help to destroy envelope viruses. COVID-19 is an enveloped virus. It is really easy to enjoy the health benefits of coconut oil, add it to your salads, include it in a slice or have it straight from the spoon. Heated coconut oil does not have the same therapeutic properties as consuming it raw. ... A good dosage to aim for is 1 to 2 tablespoons per day.

22.01.2022 Garlic and Immune Protection Garlic builds up the body’s natural defences against infection and effectively kills bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, yeasts, and moulds, Garlic must be eaten raw to have an anti-microbial effect. The active, protective compound in garlic is allicin. ... Some ways to take it, ranging from hot to mild are: Chew up a clove and swallow it -- beware, very hot, may cause gag reflex Blend a clove in a cup of water or milk and drink it. Blend it up in a half cup of carrot juice. Blend it in a small amount of aloe vera gel. Put the chopped or crushed clove in a cup already-cooked soup or rice, and eat it. Garlic is nature's antibiotic!! NB It's important to note that garlic can cause skin burns, and the preparations here that go directly on the skin or in any orifice could cause them.

19.01.2022 What is your new road to normal after COVID-19? As Darwin starts implementing its roadmap to the new normal what is it that you are most excited about doing again? I am looking forward to moving freely in nature's great outdoors again. To visit our great National parks and play at our abundant local playgrounds with my children, to celebrate with friends and to return to weekend basketball. (Go TV Jets!) ... I am hearing from many people they have enjoyed the ability to slow down, to rest and restore during the COVID-19 restrictions! I hope you have had the best time possible under the COVID-19 restrictions and found pleasure in the things that you could do.

16.01.2022 Astragalus, Echinacea, Andrographis Herbal tinctures are potent plant medicines. They are administrated in small dosages, about 7mls, and are taken two to four times per day. Unfortunately in Australia Western Herbal Medicine is not well endorsed like it is in Europe, some parts of America and in China. The Chinese government spend millions of dollars researching the medical properties of herbs like they research pharmaceutical medications in our country. ... 90% of patients treated in China using herbs had complete recovery from coronavirus. Astragalus in particular was used to successfully treat coronavirus. If you currently have an immune issue or like herbal medicine and wish to use it to help strengthen your immune system I have over 60 herbal tinctures in my clinic to help you achieve this goal. Stay healthy and well :-)

15.01.2022 What home remedies can you use for your indigestion? There are many things you can do to avoid feeling uncomfortably full after eating including avoiding fluids with your meals, consuming apple cider vinegar and using herbal digestifs. To enhance your digestion do not drink any fluids with your meals. The golden rule is to avoid fluids (water, wine, tea etc) 30 minutes before eating and 30 minutes after finishing your meal. This will prevent the dilution of your stomach hyd...rochloric acid. Please be aware it can take up to 30 days before your mouth produces enough saliva to make chewing fully comfortable. If all you can manage in the first week is to stop drinking with your meals do this then move onto slowly increasing time up to your goal of 30 minutes. This means that outside of meal times you need to be mindful to drink enough water until your urine stream is clear, indicating a hydrated body. Initially if your stomach acid production and has this has been identified as the cause of your indigestion take 1-2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar sprinkled over your salads or added into your meal. Apple cider vinegar can add that little bit extra acidity to help your stomach acid. Remember to rest and relax when you are eating. Savour your food by chewing each mouthful at least 20 times. Eat simple food combinations particularly when you are tired, Herbal digestifs are used throughout Europe to help stimulate your digestive fire after eating. You can buy herbal tinctures and use these in drop doses with your meals or make yp your own dried herbal blend to have 30 minutes after your meals. Herbal digestive herbs include angelica root, gentian, cinnamon, ginger, dandelion and fennel. Use 1 teaspoon to one cup of boiling water, steep for 5 minutes, add honey or maple syrup to taste.

15.01.2022 Essential Oils and Coronavirus The most potent essential oils to protect your immune system are by far oregano and thyme, but be careful as they are very STRONG! One protective measure you can employ against the coronaviruses is to add immune supporting essential oils to a handkerchief and keep it in your bra or pocket. Simply add 1 drop of each oil to the centre of the handkerchief, fold it up and place it in your bra or pocket, ensuring that the extra layer of fabric is pr...otecting your skin from touching the essential oils directly. Alternatively you can add the essential oils to a carrier oil. Use 1 tablespoon of olive or coconut oil and add 2 drops of thyme and 1 drop of oregano essential oil. Rub it into your sternum, right near your thymus gland. If you have a young child use lavender essential oil instead.

15.01.2022 Elderberries Elderberries help to strengthen your immune system, and are useful to help treat or ward off viral infections. Elderberries are great for both children and adults. You can easily make an elderberry syrup that tastes a little like ribena, just not as sweet. ... Elderberry Syrup cup dried elderberries 3 cups water cup raw real honey Boil the elderberries uncovered in water for 25 minutes or until the liquid is reduced by half. Strain the berries. Wait until the mixture has cooled slightly before adding the honey. Pour into a sterilized jar. Take 1-3 tablespoons per day directly or add to your water.

12.01.2022 During the past months I have had the privilege to listen to my clients share their experience of the Coronavirus during their health consultations. Some people have relished in the quiet, simple, relaxed pace. For many chronic disease clients this has given them an opportunity to experience better health. I have witnessed clients whom Coronavirus destroyed their current business but they have chosen to take it on as an opportunity to find new, improved, work opportunitie...s. For others the loss of employment or the heartbreaking experience of businesses becoming insolvent have affected their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. For many people one of the hardest things has been the inability to fly to visit sick or alone loved ones. Whether you have enjoyed or loathed COVID I think it's important to acknowledge universal suffering can and does have an impact on us all. 2020 will be remembered forever. So, during this time please take the time to care for yourself. Nothing beats a beach walk, a hot bath, time with loved ones, music, dancing, meditation or whatever activity works best for YOU!!

11.01.2022 Baths - Water Therapy One of the most nurturing things you can do for yourself is run a hot, deep bath. Bring out your candles, soft music, add epsom salts, your favourite essential oils and let your body soak for a minimum of 20 minutes. Make yourself a pillow out of a bath mat and place it under your neck so you are super comfortable.... Water has amazing healing properties which are enhanced as you get yourself into a deep rested state. Let yourself drip dry so you allow the essential oils to stay on your skin. If you suffer from insomnia have your bath before you go to sleep. Laying down on your bed as you cool down can help to produce a deep and rested sleep.

11.01.2022 Remove Mucus Forming Foods There are certain foods that trigger your body to produce extra mucus. During times of illness and potential viral threats such as the coronavirus, it is a good idea to keep your airways clear, healthy and to minimise these foods in your diet. Foods that typically cause excessive mucus production are:-... Dairy - milk, cheese, ice-cream and yoghurt Sugar - white sugar and processed foods Eggs Excessive protein Remember you are not avoiding these foods because of an allergy, or removing them forever. It can be, if you choose, an overall supportive plan for your immune system.

11.01.2022 I think in today's society it's really easy to dismiss the simple, yet powerful natural remedies available to us. Personal empowerment is so essential during times like this. You can make a difference to your health. I think it's also important to note that coronaviruses are a large family of viruses, were first discovered in the 1960s and normally cause mild symptoms in the respiratory tract of humans e.g.the common cold. COVID-19 is a new, unidentified, stronger strain o...f the coronavirus. SARS and MERS were previous coronaviruses. Science knows that all coronaviruses attach to and get into our cells the same way. The virus attaches to the ACE 2 receptor and it's corona, (hence the name coronaviruses). Most treatments are aimed at blocking this attachment. COVID-19 thrives in an acidic system. The first and most fundamental way you can protect yourself against COVID-19 is to alkalise your body. The key to doing this is to eat 1g of protein per kilogram of body weight and by eating an abundance of fruit and vegetables. An abundance of vegetables means up to 8 servings per day and 3-4 servings of fruit. If you need assistance to achieve this you can also use alkalising powders. Simple but so effective for your overall health.

10.01.2022 Recently one of my clients shared a cough remedy her grandmother used on her throughout her childhood. Now as a mother to three boys she has continued to use this same remedy with great success and promises it works every time. It works on all kinds of coughs (wet or dry) and it is so simple! Her directions are to cut one onion (colour doesn't matter) into eight chunks. Once your children are asleep slip the cut onion into their room and leave them to breathe in the onion s...cented air to overnight. In the morning her children's coughs have cleared. I love the way traditional remedies that worked are passed on through the generations. Thank you for Marijana for sharing one of your families jewels. If you have a family healing remedy you'd like to share please add it to the comments below :-)

10.01.2022 Licorice Root - Anti-viral Protection Licorice has had a long use in traditional medicine as an anti-viral, particularly used topically for herpes viruses.. Licorice may also be useful in any respiratory condition, through its soothing action on coughs, its ability to help expel mucus and as an overall respiratory tonic.... Early research emerging on COVID-19 shows promising results for Licorice root If you like licorice herbal tea now is a good time to drink two to three cups of licorice root tea per day. I have it in stock or you can usually purchase it from Greenies Real Food in Rapid Creek.

08.01.2022 Many parents are worried about COVID-19 impacting on their children, particularly children with lung conditions such as asthma. Looking at the Chinese Statistics the average age of the patients was 47 years, with 0.9% of the patients were younger than 15 years of age. There has been a few recent reports on COVID-19 affecting children. During times like this I think it’s heartening to know that our children’s bodies have their own innate, built in immune protection.... One natural treatment used in COVID-19 is melatonin, our potent antioxidant, sleep hormone. Children naturally produce 10 times more melatonin than adults. It probably accounts for why most children can sleep through storms, lightning and loud noises. . Most children aged from 1 to 12 years old suffer from upper respiratory tract infections. The deaths from COVID-19 have come from interstitial pneumonia, a lower respiratory tract infection. . One of the best probiotics to protect children from respiratory viruses in general is Lactobacillus Rhamnosus GG. It has been clinically shown to reduce the number and duration of respiratory tract infections. A single strain probiotic is cheaper than a multi-strain probiotic and this particular one is very useful for respiratory tract infections.

06.01.2022 4 Thieves Vinegar 4 Thieves Vinegar had it's origins in the 18th-century plague epidemic in Europe. Legend has it that a band of thieves robbed homes and graves of the sick and dying but didn't get sick themselves. When the thieves were apprehended the authorities discovered they covered their bodies and doused their face masks in an herbal vinegar with strong antibacterial and antiviral properties.... The authorities granted the thieves freedom in exchange for the recipe which they shared to the public by posting on walls in the city so everyday people could make it themselves. You will find different recipes for 4 Thieves vinegar on the internet but here is one recipe for you:- 5-6 garlic cloves, skin removed 5-6 onions peeled and chopped 2 tablespoons of fresh thyme or oregano 1 litre of apple cider vinegar. Add all the ingredients to the blender, blitz until well combined. Take 2 to 3 spoons per day. Keep in the fridge and consume within two weeks. NB If you are allergic to any of the above ingredients please avoid this recipe.

06.01.2022 Keeping Your Immune System Strong I have had many people call me concerned about the possible impacts the Coronavirus may have on their health. It is important to remember the public health measures currently in place are there to minimise the possible spread of the virus. No doubt you are following advice to wash your hands thoroughly, maintain social distancing, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and cover your mouth/nose when sneezing.... Coronavirus greatest effect is on people who have a pre-existing health condition such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. If you area healthy but want to do more to protect your health, you can also strengthen your immune system by taking supplements such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin D. The herbal kingdom has some fantastic anti-viral herbs such as Elderberry, St John's Wort, Echinacea, Garlic, Licorice and Calendula. If you would like to know more, or do more to protect yourself from the Coronavirus please get in contact with me. Michelle :-)

05.01.2022 Happy New Year 2021! I hope everyone celebrated their Christmas festive season and feel revitalised for 2021! MB Naturopathic clinic opened yesterday. for consultations. What I am enjoying hearing so far is how people's health has benefited from their choices to stay at home and rest rather than travel overseas or interstate. ... One of the many benefits of COVID (and we all know there is a lot of negatives) has been the ability to slow down, appreciate the smaller things in life and move at a kinder pace to your body. Yep, I'm thinking morning sleep ins, afternoon naps and eating whenever you want. Let's see what 2021 brings us all. In best health, Michelle

03.01.2022 What natural remedies can you use to improve Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)? After a number of pathology tests and maybe an ultrasound your medical practitioner has given you a diagnosis of PCOS. Given it is a syndrome and has a large number of potential underlying causes what are some practical things you do right now to help bring your body back to balance? Exercise, certain foods and herbs can all make a big difference. Exercise is proved to be the best therapeutic m...anagement of high insulin, imbalance in hormones, menstrual irregularity and infertility. 30 minutes of exercise daily is required regardless if you are under, normal or overweight. A combination of aerobic exercise (walking, bike riding, running, swimming) and resistance training (weights) gives the best results. Set your body up for a great balanced day by eating breakfast everyday. Ideally please include protein such as nuts, eggs, meat or legumes. As you venture out into the world for the day it is really important for your hormonal balance to eat every 3 hours. Avoid big sugar drops that play havoc with your insulin balance. Foods you can introduce to help manage PCOS include:- Dried cinnamon powder improves insulin resistance at 1.5 grams per day and improves menstrual regularity. Sprinkle some over your breakfast granola, brown rice porridges or add it to your morning smoothie. Legumes such as chickpeas, red kidney beans and non GMO soy are rich in inositol and are fabulous at balancing hormonal levels. Create your own home made baked beans or vegetable and bean curries. Your body will love you for it. Drive down inflammatory PCOS by including an abundance of turmeric in your diet. If you need help managing your PCOS please get in touch with me, it is something you can overcome :-)
