23.01.2022 What is the biggest food challenge you face and have been unable to change no matter how much you want to and how hard you try?

23.01.2022 CONSCIOUS EATING- FINDING JOY IN FOOD PART 1 No matter what has created the disorder in your relationship with food, to get better, you will need to put order back into the way you think about food, the way you eat, & the relationship between eating & your body. You can learn to appreciate your body and nourish it. There is no doubt that developing a more balanced, flexible relationship with food will be challenging, but over time it will become more natural. I would like to ...discuss the idea of conscious eating. I do not use the word intuitive eating, which you may have heard of, I understand what intuitive eating means, we all were intuitive eaters once, with the skill to eat, to stop when we are full, to eat when we are hungry & to eat satisfying foods, but that often gets hijacked at some point in life. We heard someone in our lives talk about food or bodies in a way that made us think, there is something wrong with me and I need to change. We then doubt in our own ability to feed ourselves and trust our bodies, the problem that I find with intuitive eating is that if a person has an eating disorder & needs a treatment program to eat, they are unable to eat intuitively. What I want to do with my clients is incorporate teaching how to use their intuition, but conscious eating includes intuition, body awareness and important knowledge & education about nutrition. I may intuitively think if that I was just going by my intuition, I really like apples, I might just want to eat them all the time but if I know about nutrition, I can tell myself I have not had any protein today, I think I need some protein, that is a simple way to explain how I help to educate my clients on nutrition and nutrition facts #carolyncostininstitute #carolyncostin #eatingdisorderrecoverycoach #eatingdisorderawareness #eatingdisorderrecovery #consciouseating #bingeeating #disorderedeating #joy #selflove See more

23.01.2022 Diet Culture is the culture that we have been forced to live in that praises false ideals about what health looks like. It elicits fear, judgment, and anxiety in terms of how we look, how we move, and how we eat. Diet Culture makes us believe that we NEED to look a certain way, eat a certain way, and use our bodies in a certain way If we don't follow the rules of diet culture, we are seen as unacceptable - we are not worthy. Because of Diet Culture, we feel the need to restr...ict our food and fit an unrealistic "ideal body" just to be enough. It makes us feel like we need to shrink ourselves to be accepted in a world where NOTHING is accepted. Diet Culture is the reason you struggle so much with your body. When we operate out of the fear of Diet Culture, we are never satisfied with the result. It is never enough. The ideal body does not exist. The ideal diet does not exist. The ideal workout does not exist. Only YOU exist.

22.01.2022 Sometimes the greatest miracle is being able to face exactly where you are at and say; this is where I am, no running, no hiding. There's gold for me here and I intend to find it, no matter what. X

20.01.2022 What a way to end 2018 and enter the new year with this powerful message..its content is the best idea for a new years change. Give yourself 10min today to listen..xx

20.01.2022 I know what you think the answer is. I know you think that you just need a new meal plan, or a new exercise program, or just to completely overhaul your diet and start tomorrow. Because Monday’s are the perfect days to start new diets, right? But it’s NOT about the food you’re eating. It’s also NOT about the weight you think you need to lose, or the muscle that you think you need to tone (whatever you think that means). The problem is not the way you eat or even the way you ...look. It’s about how you feel. Everything that you experience in life has everything to do with what’s going on inside your head and your heart. There’s a deeper-rooted issue that your body is begging you to pay attention to. Diets are just a quick fix, They never work permanently. The results you see are quick to disappear. And then you’re left more unhappy, more frustrated, and more ashamed than you were in the first place. It’s time to go a little deeper. It’s time to address the REAL problem, and when you do, your body takes care of itself. Stop abusing the beautiful body that you were blessed with. Start listening to it instead. Give yourself what you need so you can live your life confidently and free. That’s all we all want, isn’t it? Freedom? Freedom from food rules. Freedom from the prison of diet culture. Freedom from anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, and doubt. Freedom to just BE. Freedom to be you, apologetically. And freedom to love yourself, your WHOLE self, mind, body, and spirit. Instead of starting a diet tomorrow, start turning inwards and reconnect with your body. That’s where true transformation, the kind that you really want, begins. See more

20.01.2022 There’s something you need to know about healing. It’s hard. It’s painful. It can get super heavy sometimes. Body Image issues are created when we don’t let ourselves feel. We know something’s wrong, & it MUST be our body’s fault. But the problem isn’t the body. It’s that shitstorm of emotions that have been swirling around in us, unattended to, sometimes for 10, 20, maybe 40+ years. The pain hasn’t left, it’s just buried in a ton of BS that we’ve created to keep us from feel...ing it. That’s how eating disorders start. There’s a pain, deep in our body, that gets activated. As soon as we feel it,our brain is like AW HELL NO, not you again. So we numb, with food,no food or exercise, or drugs or sex, or social media. You get the idea. We check out as we don’t want to feel. When we start the real healing journey to free ourselves, we have to start uncovering it, & it hurts when it‘s uncovered. Think about if you had shards of glass in your feet that had been there so long they‘d become a part of your body, & you went to yank them out. It would hurt like hell! But this pain is temporary & purposeful. All pain is purposeful. It’s there to teach us & help us grow. When we know that’s happening, we can feel it fully & see what part of us needs to be healed. The glass is gone & we can mend the actual wound instead of pretending like it isn’t there & walk around with glass in our feet. Yes, there will be a scar, but you can trust that when you DO heal it, it won’t ever be exposed again. The longer you pretend it‘s not there, the harder it’s going to be to heal it. We‘re experts at burying our wounds. It’s the healing that we suck at because it hurts! An old part of us is dying & it can get super shitty. I call it sitting in the shit because that’s literally what we have to, sorry, GET to do. This work is hard. I’m not going to lie, but I know the pain is taking me to another level. It’s worth the pain. I promise. Why else would I make this my career?

19.01.2022 WHAT'S IMPORTANT FOR MAINTAINING A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD? Maintaining a healthy relationship with food involves maintaining a healthy emotional relationship with yourself and your world. Food cannot be used as a substitute for feelings. If you are on the Sunshine Coast I would love for you reach out and contact me, we can meet one on one. ... You have a place to connect where you will be welcomed without judgement. Together we will see how your challenges are your greatest gifts. I hope I can be the guide for you that I wish I’d had by my side when I needed help.

19.01.2022 So many of us suffer in silence with emotional pain because we think that no one else could POSSIBLY understand what you were going through. We think that our feelings are invalid & that if we told anyone how we REALLY were, they’d think we were crazy. But the truth is, we all feel the same emotions. We’re all human, and we all have pain that we’re dealing with that bring up those emotions. Even though the circumstances may differ, pain is pain. But we think we’re alone, so w...e stuff those emotions down and do our best to get through each day with this enormous monster on our backs. We try not to feel it or look at it, but the more we do that, the heavier it gets. Until one day, you can’t take the weight anymore. Something happens, and you collapse in a pool of emotionality that you’ve been bottling up for weeks, months, years, or even decades. Emotions are just energy. They’re nothing to be afraid of. But we attach so much meaning to them, & we get identified with them and think that feeling those emotions make us bad people. But girl, all you’re doing by holding that in is causing yourself MORE of the same! What if you opened up to someone and told them the truth? What would it feel like to just allow yourself to feel that pain & release it from your body forever? Transcend your pain & then it becomes your power. Don’t hold it in any longer. By letting it out, you make the world a better place. You’re not alone, & you don’t have to do this alone. See more

19.01.2022 When you’re afraid to go out with friends or family because it’s interfering with your workout schedule or your food plan, we need to talk. I lived like that for years. Too many years. I was in a constant state of fear. It’s not living. It’s exhausting. And the more you do it, the more you feel like you aren’t doing it enough. The minute your life begins to take a back seat to your body (meaning all you care about is what you look like & how much you weigh), you’ve lost con...nection with who you are. When you lose that connection, you lose your power. That’s not living. That’s hardly even surviving. Don’t get so busy working on your body that you lose sight of your health. Think about that. I’m here for you. Michelle x

19.01.2022 You do not need to DO anything to get to where you want to go. You just need to intentionally come into the present moment, accept it and love it, and be fully present with your entire being. It’s still. It’s quiet. It’s deep. It’s transformational. It’s the true you. You are enough. Right now. Trust that. Know that. Be.

18.01.2022 HOW YOU CAN HELP TO PROTECT YOURSELF The 4 must-have essentials that powerfully protect and defend. I’ve been using these Young Living Thieves range for years. I’m not using or doing anything different just using them a little more this month. 1. Wash hands for 20 seconds with Thieves foaming hand soap. Contains NO SLSs or other foaming agents and no nasty chemicals. 2. Use the Thieves hand sanitizer if you can’t wash hands. With over 60% alcohol it meets CDC’s requirements p...lus its non drying and non toxic! Tested to kill 99.99% of germs. 3. Rub thieves oil neat on soles of feet 2x daily, diffuse 24/7, rub on chest and throat diluted in a carrier oil. 4. Use the Thieves spray as a surface sanitizer (think Glen 20 but non toxic and doesn’t affect beneficial bacterial - only the nasties). It’s so powerful that it kills pathogenic bacteria but so non toxic you can spray it on your neck. I do this daily. These products smell divine too! Think hot cross buns. Thieves is @youngliving’s revolutionary blend and signature oil. It got its name by the group of Thieves in 15th Century France who protected themselves against the highly contagious and infectious black plague by using this special concoction of oils. Gary Young researched the secret formula a couple decades ago and came up with this revolutionary blend called Thieves. It’s another tool in our health tool kit to protect and defend being anti bacterial and anti viral. Message me for details on how I can connect you to young living because you need an existing member to connect you. or go directly to https://www.myyl.com/gardnermichelle if you are new to young living, you will need to click at the top where it says enroll today. 17.01.2022 FOOD & GUILT It must be Easter because I just woke up and took a huge bite out of a chocolate bunny's ear" it was 7.30am! For so many years I've felt nothing but guilt and shame around food, especially so called "bad foods" including chocolate. My life was consumed around worrying about what I ate, but now I'm more relaxed, it's not that I don't care, because I do care about what I put in my body, but I care less about punishing myself with the thoughts i have around food ...and in those times like this morning, I am choosing to be in a state of pleasure when I eat not guilt. While I choose to nourish my body with foods that I know will serve my body and mind the majority of the time, I do eat things like sugar and chocolate occasionally and I believe that's ok when we are ok about it. Any guilt about food, shame about the body, or judgment about health are considered stressors by the brain and are immediately changed into their electrochemical equivalents in the body. You could eat the healthiest meal on the planet, but if you’re thinking toxic thoughts the digestion of your food goes down and your fat storage metabolism can go up. Likewise, you could be eating a nutritionally challenged meal, but if your head and heart are in the right place, the nutritive power of your food will be increased. I love this and now live by this and for someone who has suffered with an eating disorder the freedom in this for me is gold. So today eat some chocolate or don't eat some but whatever choice you make be in a state of joy doing it. Happy Easter

13.01.2022 Food is medicine but so too is your mind. If you’re stressed, constantly thinking deeply, not sleeping, unable to relax, not prioritizing yourself, or are obsessed over making the right food choices, it doesn’t matter how clean your diet is, you can still inflame the body, alter hormones and cause havoc with your body’s stress response. What’s more, your best laid plans for clean food often falters under stress (and lack of sleep) because high cortisol makes you crave mor...e carbs and sugar. If I was to be asked why food was important to me, this would be my response: Food is the foundation of wellness and is half the story of good nutrition but your mind is so much more of an influence on our health and impacts the other half" Understanding your beliefs, triggers and perceptions, and knowing you can change them, is where true freedom lies. Just as its nature AND nurture, it’s also food AND the mind. Take time prioritize your nutrition as well as your emotional balance - meditate, time to-do nothing, have fun, and get enough sleep.

12.01.2022 Let’s all take a communal PAUSE. BREATHE in slow and deep through the nose Hold it in for a few moments, feeling your breath fully.... Then EXHALE through the mouth with a loud SIGH. Do that two more times before continuing with your day. How does being connected to your breath and body make you feel? Tell me in the comments.

12.01.2022 3 tips on how to rewire the brain for eating disorder recovery. Tip 1#: change your physical actions People often think that the rewiring process is only somet...hing you do in your mind. But it is important to understand that actually your brain is also wired by the physical ACTIONS you take. With every action you take you are either choosing to wire more eating disorder patterns in your brain or more full recovery patterns. Are you restricting, purging, overexercising? Are you skipping meals, avoiding some foods? All of this is wiring your brain to have an eating disorder! You can think do I want THIS behaviour or habit to design my future? IS THIS part of what I want for myself in full recovery? Because the habits & actions you take today are the ones that design your future. When today you take an eating disorder action, then how can your future be any different? Tip 2#: Change your emotional reactions. The next tip is to change your emotional reactions THIS is what many people are missing from their brain rewiring practice! 1. Become an outside observer This is a mindfulness technique that helps you to see the old urges or ED thoughts from a neutral perspective. As you maintain this neutral observer perspective those urges and thought can’t have power over you & with this, you are telling your brain thanks, but these are not important to me anymore, we can now reject these urges & thoughts. 2. Do not get emotionally involved Do not take these urges and thoughts personally or seriously. This you will do by your emotional reaction. By your emotional reaction to the urges & thoughts, you are teaching your brain what to wire or rewire. A thought can be just a thought but our emotional reaction determines what gets wired in our brain Tip 3#Visualisation Visualising your day in recovery, seeing your minds eye how you want to act, what behaviours you want to engage in, what actions you want to take. you can also visualise how you want to emotionally respond in a situation even before it happens. Studies show that practicing visualisation wire the same parts of the brain when an action is done either physically, in a real situation or just by imagining it

11.01.2022 No one else can light you up except for yourself. Sometimes we get caught up in thinking that our happiness is determined by people, circumstances, our physical appearance, and material things, but that’s wrong. That’s ego. That’s not your truth.... You are the creator. Come back to you. You’ll see that you’ve had inside of you what you’ve been looking for you all along.

10.01.2022 This will not last forever. On the other side of it the sky will be bluer, the air will be cleaner, the water will be clearer; we will feel such joy just to feel the breeze on our skin and the sun on our faces. We will grieve what and who has been lost, but we will have been transformed in ways that are ultimately positive. We will have lost a certain innocence and gained a new maturity. We will be humbled and grateful in ways we might never have imagined. And we will be ready at last to set the world straight, for we will have learned so painfully what it is like when it is not.

06.01.2022 During tough times, our emotions run the gamut: denial, anger, fury, despair, numbness, isolation, desperation. In order to heal, we must feel. But we have a say in what we do with our feelings. There are no right or wrong reactions, only what serves us and what doesn’t. It may help you to be angry and express your rage; it may help to be alone for some time. What is crucial when moving through a crisis is maintaining self-awareness.... Check in with yourself daily, perhaps through meditation or journaling, and ask yourself: Where am I today? Is this helping me? What might be the next phase of this transition? While we have to relinquish control over the circumstances, we can still maintain our connection to ourselves. We can work with this knowledge,to face the challenge of changing ourselves. But whether we like it doesn’t really matterlife-altering events will change us, in one way or another. Instead of tuning out to avoid the pain, dealing with and even embracing tragedy and its consequences gives us an active role in guiding our own change and growth. Transformation is all around us. Transitions are the birthing pains, alternately exhilarating and difficult, that can bring wondrous, challenging, beautiful changes into our lives. How are you responding to the events at the moment?

06.01.2022 A focus on the present. I focus on the here and now and your goals for recovery. When working with me, we may talk about your past, but only to provide some context to your goals and help me understand your patterns that you want to change. Then I will help with identifying specific goals for your recovery and developing strategies to reach those goals. A focus on strengths.... I will help you identify your strengths. I believe understanding and affirming your strength is one of the healthiest things you can do for your recovery. Many clients have told me,"my eating disorder took up so much of my time I don't really know who I am". Coaching with me helps correct that. I will lead you through identity development and help you explore likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses and gaining a sense of purpose for your future. Recently one of my client said to me,"it's so nice to talk about my strengths for a change" A focus on support. I provide support for urges, and encouragement, when you do slip. My clients have the freedom to text me when they have urges to binge, purge, restrict, self harm or use other behaviours. I allow my clients to do this and provide in the moment coaching on handling those urges. Providing accountability. I will hold you accountable to attend your appointments you have with your therapist, dietitian and doctors. I am a team player who supports your recovery and is willing to work with your treatment team.

05.01.2022 If you feel lost and unable to figure out what you REALLY ‘want’, I encourage you to get quiet... even for just a little while. Then, ask to remember what the little girl inside of you has been dreaming for. What you promised her. I assure you, the answer is there. Then, promise yourself you will not give up on that dream. Promise yourself you will not give up on you.

03.01.2022 Think about it. The minute you start doubting yourself or a situation, things start to get in your way. It gets harder. And the harder it gets, the more you doubt. Eventually, it might get so hard that you give up But when you believe in yourself and you believe in the outcome that you want, somehow things just start to fall into place. When you have uncompromising faith in the universe and in yourself, you’ll be given everything you need... and in astonishing ways It’s so si...mple. But your faith must be strong. Don’t let it bend, not even a little bit! You WILL NOT fail. Ever. You’ve got this.

02.01.2022 You don’t want to look back at your life and think about all the memories, events, birthdays, trips, & spontaneous adventures you missed just because your diet plan didn’t allow for it. Trust me. Those moments might seem little now, but they’re the ones you remember most. Don’t give those up just to obtain an unsustainable body weight. Life is so much happier, brighter and fun when you realize that every moment is an important one, and that food isn’t the ...problem. It’s never about the food. It’s never about your body or your weight. It goes much deeper than that. And when you go deep and heal the REAL issue, your body will take care of itself. It’s literally mindless. So yeah, you can eat that. Without worry. Without doubt. Without stress. Without having to work it off later. Yes. You, Can. You just need the right tools to learn how to shift your mindset. Be there for all the memories and moments, not just the important ones. Stop missing out on life because it isn’t written in your plan. Make your own plan. You should try it. Create the body you desire on YOUR terms. Gain confidence to live your best life. I’m here for you when you’re ready.

02.01.2022 This mantra asks us to get clear about our desires, to live in faith and to trust that the universe is leading us to whatever is of the highest good. It asks us to relinquish our need to control. And that often revs up our ego, because our ego believes that in order to be safe, we need to exert control over our circumstances. This is the perfect prayer to say every morning so you can release resistance, let go of the need to control, and relax into the faithful knowing that the universe has your back.

01.01.2022 Transform your relationship with food. PRACTICAL EXERCISE TO TRY- List all of the negative statements you tell yourself about your body, your weight and your eating. What are the constant negative mantras you repeat to yourself? What are the unkind statements you silently repeat? take a complete list. Then, invent some loving and kind compliments. Begin to repeat these as often as you say the other statements. In addition, for the next week, practice catching yourself when y...ou lapse into self attaching thoughts. Witness this behavior. Just notice it, observe with simple awareness and kindness, gently ask yourself to let these thoughts go as soon as they start to take over. This is a practice in training your mind to act in a supportive way. Its a practice in managing and regulating your inner dialogue so it begins to work more and more for you, rather than against you. Its a lifelong practice in learning how to be a more efficient and self nourishing human. See more
