25.01.2022 Soul Art Sunday Session Yesterday Mum and I had our first day out together in about 2 years. Usually if Mum is around she is baby sitting for me while I’m consulting or doing jobs or we might be lucky enough to be together but also chasing after a toddler. So this was pretty special The beautiful Lotus Sisters Colleen and Johanna @lotus_sisters_art ran a morning filled with Meditation and relaxation which lead to the creation and exploration of our own individual Intuiti...ve Soul Art Pieces. It was such a breath of fresh air for us both and some much needed ‘me time’ to switch of, be creative and connect within and also start a healing journey through expression. I’ve always loved art and design, but over the last few years starting a business and having a baby, that side of me certainly didn’t get a lot of time. But, By the time I’d finished I was ready to see my little man. It’s funny how distance (even a short time) really does make the heart grow fonder At the start of the year I decided I would cultivate more balance and get in touch with my intuition even more, it’s funny how things are already starting to happen I always love meeting new liked minded individuals too Ps. Mum did paint too and it looked awesome, hers was in the background drying. #soulart #intuition #paintingfromthesoul #canvasart #expression #healing #naturopath #nutritionist #motherdaughtertime #mumma #adelaidehills
24.01.2022 Last week Ryan took the week off so we could all spend some much needed time together as a family. Such a hard thing to come by lately. Our favourite thing to do has always been hiking together. So each day we packed our lunch and set out of a different adventure not far from home! 23.01.2022 Banana OR Beetroot Paleo Cupcakes Nut Free, Dairy Free, GF, Refined Sugar free I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen today. Baking is a bit of a hobby to me so I get excited when I get the time to have a play! My pop gave me some home grown organic beetroots when I was in Loxton last week and you know me of course I was pretty excited, so these went into my cupcakes!... I used a recipe I had created with Paleo banana muffins and subbed the banana for two whole beetroots! I’m quite happy! I think I may have been a little too excited with the beetroot though . I’ve had a few requests lately for recipes the kids could enjoy and take to school (many schools are nut free now) and I was actually keen to do some paleo style baking without almond meal for once as it seems to be a go to in recipes. So this one used a mix of coconut flour and tapioca/cassava flour. Love to know what you think and how you go! recipe Michelle x #paleo #nutfree #dairyfree #chocolate #beetroot #banana #muffin #healthy #baking #naturopath #nutritionist http://www.michelleharrisnaturopath.com.au/news
21.01.2022 Enjoying these beauties today. I was so excited about a month ago when I found these gorgeous Passionflower bushes growing on my parents farm (previous owners were South African and I believe it’s commonly grown over there). Not only because they are just stunning to look at and oh my gosh check out all the bees around these little beauty’s on the video; but because I have always had the dream to grow and harvest my own herbs to make medicines to use for our family.. One day... when I have more time I will do more of it Passionflower is a medicine I regularly prescribe in clinic in combination with other medicinal herbs especially around assisting anxiety. I’ve found huge benefit for patients and also use it on and off myself when I need! I did have bouts of insomnia when my sleep was broken excessively when Henry was a little younger which bought on some anxiety at times too as my body tried to adjust to the adrenal fatigue. That’s why I’m so grateful to have access to so many natural remedies. Here are some of the benefits of this beauty. Reduce the symptoms of menopause including hot flushes and low mood. Helps to increase GABA which is a calming neurotransmitter. Reduce Anxiety Assist ADHD symptoms Reduce Blood pressure Improving insomnia and sleep Reducing inflammation Reducing stress without reducing productivity at work There are hundreds of flowers about to open, I’m planning to dry some and make a herbal tea blend with some chamomile flowers For all the fellow Naturopaths, I think this is Passiflora caerulea not Passiflora Incarnata.
20.01.2022 What are you cooking up this weekend? The weather has cooled, and the food we look for changes. This is a favourite recipe Ryan and I make regularly during winter. It's hearty, easy to digest, full of nutrition, great for quick meals during the week when you're busy with work, babies and life or need leftovers for lunch. Give it a try, I would love to know what you think Credit goes to my husband for this batch while he is on holidays this week ... Tip:I also suggest to thicken it up and add more gut friendly carbohydrates to fill you up, try soaking some buckwheat groats (or pearl barley if you are ok with gluten) and adding them during the cooking process. We also enjoy blending the veggies in the food processor to make the meal even easier! http://www.michelleharrisnaturopath.com.au//archiv/05-2018 #chickensoup #guthealth #winterwarmer #naturopath #nutritionist #jerf #noadditives #cleaneating

18.01.2022 Making the most of my 2 hours baby free this morning I got up early, (despite the continual broken, lack of sleep period that we have been on the last few months) and fought the mental demons that sleep deprivation creates- to beat the heat and clear my head. I decided to explore the Conservation Park we are so blessed to have on our doorstep and test out my leg..! It gave me the biggest boost feeling the cool morning air, smelling the fresh crisp environment, cle...aring my thoughts. Ready to go back to Mummy duties (although, who else gets baby withdrawals as soon as they leave their little ones? ) I love being a Mum and am forever greatfull for our beautiful Henry, but, I truely value those small breaks that Ryan gives me on his late shifts or the time Mum and Dad give me when they come to visit Taking care of yourself means you can take better care of others #mumlife #hiking #walkingtrails #recovery #morialtaconservationpark #metime #spring #naturopath #nutritionist @ Morialta Conservation Park
17.01.2022 My go to Spring time lunch My Dukkah Salad I often find patients struggle with lunch. I just wanted to show you that it can be super easy, quick and tasty ! ... I’ve always been organised with meal prep making sure there are healthy options in the fridge, and since becoming a Mum and especially on work days, I’ve found that this organisation needs to be even better plus what ever I have at lunch needs to be quick, prepared or ‘semi-prepared’, shareable with my toddler, nutritious and filling. During winter I enjoyed soups and currys I could quickly reheat because lunch times were fairy unpredictable with bubba. Now it’s spring I’ve been craving fresher foods as I’m sure many of you have too. This is kinda like a buddha bowel, put a few things in a bowel, good quality proteins, healthy fats, vegetable and healthy carbs, stir it around and enjoy! For this salad, the secret is the roasted sweet potatoes, avocado and Dukkah mixed around the salad which acts as a bit of a dressing. What you need *Large handful or spinach (organic preferable) *1/3 of an avocado diced *1/4-1/2 capsicum diced *Palm size portion of protein (I used some chicken here, soft boiled eggs are super yummy too) Handful of roasted sweet potato (if it’s in nice little pieces and a little caramelised it mash’s up and coats the leaves well **Magic touch - 1 tbsp Home made Dukkah Mix it around and enjoy Tip- the Protein, Potatoes and Dukkah can be pre cooked and stored in the fridge so you really only need to cut up a couple of fresh things. Why not experiment too! I think fresh sprouts and other roasted vege would also go nicely here. #naturopath #nutritionist #holisticnutrition #rainboweating #fresh #salad #organic #health #homemade #lunch #springsalad #easy
14.01.2022 I had a request for my healthy happy coleslaw Here you go! A revamp on the traditional coleslaw. This beauty is much more waistline and digestive friendly than the traditional type many people eat laden with high calorie and un-nutritious mayonnaise and dressings. I used a mandolin or v-slicer to get these thick strips of veggies. I think it makes the dish. -... - Ingredients and Method 1 beetroot - v-sliced 2 carrots - v-sliced 1-2 bunches of parsley or half a chinese cabbage. 1 red onion thinly sliced. Mayonnaise (made up from an adapted version which also included egg yolks so you can add 2-4 of them if you like, they make it creamier) - 6 tbsp of coldpressed olive oil - 2 tsp organic dijon mustard without the colours and numbers (I have found one in woolies, the organic one) - juice of one whole lemon - salt and pepper - 1 tsp ACV Blend together and stir through the salad. Cost effective and simple! We served ours with some gut loving sauerkraut and homemade grass fed burgers. Let me know if you want the recipe for those, super delilah and simple! Scrap the un-nutritious bun and try it like this, you'll love it #cleaneating #jerf #balancedbloodsuagrs #healthymind #healthybody #naturopath #nutritionist
13.01.2022 Excited to be back learning today with @metagenics_anz Preconception, Pregnancy and Beyond And for those that know me, it’s an area of passion to me= Helping people make Happy and Healthy babies and overcome fertility challenges.... Having had some hormonal issues myself over the years with my Thyroid and therefore Female Reproductive Hormones, I’ve had to do a lot of work to rebalance these to achieve a happy and healthy body and pregnancy! So I can help you too. Did you know that the health of Mum and Dad (and heck even their parents health 50-100 years prior) can significantly affect their babies health?? Babies health is also influenced by exposure during utero and the postpartum period. Dad, your health is JUST as important during the preconception period as Mums! I’m also really passionate about helping women during their pregnancy and the postpartum period, the human body goes through sooo many changes during pregnancy and after bubs, it’s important to look after Mum just as much as bubs! So whether you are interested in: -Providing your child with the best start in life -Reducing their risk of chronic diseases, allergies and supporting brain development -Having issues with getting pregnant -Going through IVF or considering it -Wanting support during your preconception, pregnancy and postpartum period Then I’m your Naturopath! 12.01.2022 Milestone for me First day back consulting since my little boy graced us Earth side. To be honest I was pretty sad to be leaving him, but, luckily he was only 10minutes away with his Nan and Pop who absolutely adore him and... I’m not sure if he even missed me I was welcomed by one of my beautiful colleagues at @vitaltherapy @emmaj8 with these beautiful blooms. Thank you so much ... Thank you to all the wonderful patients I had the pleasure of assisting today and everyone else I will be seeing this week. And.. 10.01.2022 Happy Birthday to my Gorgeous little bubba Henry Where has the year gone. Such a deep thinker, kind, independent, determined and loving. I love to nourish our little mans temple, so it was only fitting that he would have a Naturopath Approved Birthday cake to celebrate. This was a carrot cake, DF GF Grain Free and refined Sugar Free (Paleo style). It was super yum and honestly pretty easy to make! I can’t take credit for the recipes, topping and cake suggested by some ...other health conscious Mummas, but happy to share if you PM me. #firstbirthday #one #babyboy #cake #paleo #nourish #gf #df #grainfree #naturopath #nutritionist #healthyfoodie @ Morialta Conservation Park See more
10.01.2022 It’s just coming into autumn here and I’m enjoying the cooler nights for sleeping . On my parents farm (and I would say probably most Adelaide Hills property’s) are some organic fig tress. We never had figs growing in the Riverland, but just about all the other fruit, so to be honest I’d never eaten one! They are expensive in the shops! I decided to experiment and come up with the AMAZING Oat filled fig Bars. I LOVE them and I got glowing reports from the whole family w...hen I made them, plus requests from the hubby for more! The only sad thing about figs is that they are only in for a month or so, I also made this bar with stewed pairs and apples too, which works just the same! I wonder what else you could use? These vegan bars are made without the guilt or refined sugar. Enjoy them for breakfast or as a snack! The fresh fig filling is kept simple and is simply just cooked figs until thick and jammy, no need for sugar. At the end of cooking, I stir in vanilla extract and lemon zest and juice. If you’re a breastfeeding Mumma like myself, I suggest adding some flaxseed meal to make a complete support for energy and milk production (along with the oats). These are made up of the most delicious oatmeal (I use GF Organic oats in mine) crust paired with a sticky sweet fig filling. The oatmeal crust comes together quickly and easily, and it also doubles as the crumble topping. Are you going to try it? Tag me in your recipes if you do I’ll post the link to this recipe in the comments. It’s available on the ‘free’ newly revamped recipe section of my website. If you’re a patient of mine, stay tuned for my patient only resource section full of more exclusive yummy creations by myself!
09.01.2022 A rejuvenating week off of much needed family time and connection topped off with a wedding and our first night out alone in about 2 years! We enjoyed a few days at the beach, just doing the simple things like playing in the sand and walking in the water. For me, I enjoyed some email, laptop, phone, internet, business and social media time off and boy was it great! Feeling fresh for everyone this week Like many of you, last year when the world seemed to turn upside down,... it meant time away, social events and even holidays (with hubby being required to forgo time off because he was classified as an essential worker (don’t get me started on that ‘term’) where as I experienced the opposite being forced to close my business at certain times and adapt it where possible, which funnily enough has worked out for the better for me) were put on hold. It paid a toll and we all got to the point where we knew we needed to prioritise some family time away together. Topped off with a beautiful rainbow So grateful for the little things in life and my family #naturopath #nutritionist #familytime #beachtime #goolwabeach #rest #relaxation #nature #sandcastles #play #sunshine #rainbow
09.01.2022 Baby Beetroot was harvested this week One of Henry’s favourite things to do is to pick (anything!!) from the veggie patch. I’ve always been passionate about growing our own food and in recent times we’ve ignited that flame again with the intention of benefiting our bodies but also teaching our little boy about the importance of where your food comes from and how it’s grown. I grew up on the land and experienced first hand the hardships for farmers and gained an appreciatio...n for growing food, but also got to experience how great it was to eat food fresh from the garden and pick fruit from the tree. I want that for Henry too. So we have a little veggie patch at home, berry bushes and a couple of fruit trees (honestly you don’t need heaps of space, we grow what we can manage, because let’s face it, having a toddler and managing work and life also takes time) and I’m lucky enough to also grow the bigger stuff on my parents farm where they have a bit space and time. So our beetroots went into a Salad and also into our daily veggie juices! I find Beetroots are a bit of a Love/Hate veggie with patients, but if you are a lover then here are the health benefits High in antioxidants to fight disease and ageing Anti inflammatory with inflammation being the root cause to many diseases Great for the heart and Lower Blood Pressure Aiding detoxification and liver function (which everyone needs!) Great for blood flow to the brain Fibre for digestive health Assists with iron deficiency anaemia And.. Don’t forget to use the leaves!! Also highly nutritious and great in salads or lightly cooked with some lemon and garlic. If you want the recipe to my roasted beetroot salad (may I say as a treat, also with some good quality goats cheese) let me know and I’ll add it to my website I added fresh parsley and coriander also from our garden! #naturopath #nutritionist #adelaide #holisticnutrition #beetroot #beetrootsalad #beetrootjuice #organic #homeveggiegarden #veggiegarden #liver #detoxification #antioxidants #family #foodappreciation #diy
09.01.2022 Anyone else had some unexpected complications from Birth to recover from? Henry and I spent the morning with the beautiful Catherine from @panaceapilatesstudio ... She is a part of my healing journey, assisting my body in its recovery from Peroneal Nerve Damage which resulted during Henry’s Birth 5 months ago. She is amazing, I highly recommended her individualised classes, passion and knowledge Plus she is also an special friend! I had an idea about how I planned my birth would go and did everything possible from being informed about every part of the process, declining interventions as long as I could see it healthy too, Nutrition, Meditation, Lifestyle, Hyponobirthing, Natural Medicines and Exercise, staying strong and well right up until my birth. I never expected it to end up the way it did, nor did I think I would end up with an injury. But I did, and it’s been a journey to get back on track. Peroneal Never Damage meant that I could not walk with out aid and needed a foot brace for many weeks so I didn’t fall and trip while I was walking.. The result was foot drop. As you can imagine, for me, someone who loves hiking, walking, being active and was at the gym and pilates right up until 41 weeks of my pregnancy feeling great, it was a bit of a shock! I am still not fully recovered from this injury, but it’s important I focus on my own health so I can be the best and healthiest Mumma for my beautiful little boy - - My Post baby wellness plan consisted of Healing Foods, Nutritional Medicines to help support my nerve regeneration, mental health and bubbas health through my breast milk, plus rehabilitation exercises from the physio, chiro and Bowen. I could return to walking and basic gym exercises at around 3 months which was amazing and made me feel great and at least a little bit more like myself.. Catherine is now working on some weaknesses that have developed in my muscles as a result. A big thank you to my Husband , Mum and Dad for supporting me through this and helping me get back on track. We expect hopefully at the 12 month mark I will be healed and I am hoping to get back into some running. I wanted to share this because the more mummy’s I talk too the more I realise that everyone has challenges and I think we all do such an amazing job and I hope if you are a mumma struggling, know you’re doing an amazing job, whatever challenges you find come your way. #naturopath #nutritionist #peronealnervedamagerecovery #birth #pilates #exercise #newmum #5monthsin
08.01.2022 I’ve been activating some nuts to make some yummy almond butter To activate your nuts, soak them in filtered water for approximately 12 hours with 1/2 tsp of salt. Drain and rinse them and spread over a tray (either for the dehydrator or oven) If you have a dehydrator, great, it usually takes about 12 hours. If not, don’t despair, you can use your oven on the lowest temperature, around 60-90 degrees until they are properly dried out. You can then store them in the fridge..., or if you’re lucky enough to have a powerful blender, blend them up for about 15minutes to make a creamy nut butter for a healthy snack perfect on those new season apples! I like to activate my nuts when I can because it makes them easier to digest and the nutrients more readily available for our bodies. 07.01.2022 COVID 19 Virus Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed or confused about all the warnings and uncertainty bought about by the COVID 19 virus? I have had numerous patients asking and emailing this past week about it and wondering what they can do to support their health and their family’s health. So I just wanted to reassure you that you can consider these options. ... Firstly, try not to get yourself unnecessarily stressed or anxious, this depletes you’re immune system. It’s good to be aware, but we need to be sensible about this too and put it in perspective. Consider limiting your media exposure The good thing is, our food, lifestyle and natural medicine has some great supports to offer, either preventative or treatment. Consider the following (things we should do daily for our health regardless! ) Good hygiene, washing hands etc Eating a balanced healthy diet, including lots of Greens, fresh fruit and vegetables, healthy fats and proteins. Getting adequate rest and relaxation Exercise and move your body, especially in nature in the fresh air Sunshine and the all too important Vitamin D Support your gut Health with fermented foods, fibre rich foods and immune boosting probiotics. After all, 70-80% of our immune system is in our gut If you are immunocompromised or elderly, you should take extra precautions Including foods in our diet to support our immune system is important too. Garlic, Ginger, Spinach , Citrus, Berries and Fermented foods are just some. There are some great nutritional and herbal supports you can use to boost immunity and tackle virus’s (COVID 19 or otherwise) Medicinal Mushrooms are my favourite and go too Vitamin C (there are various forms and options, I can help you find the best fit, liposomal is my favourite) Zinc Vitamin D Immune boosting probiotics Andrographis If you are a current patient and have any questions please send me an email or DM and I can help you work through it
07.01.2022 Happy Tuesday I hope everyone is managing to stay calm amongst all the uncertainties at the moment and everyone is managing the best they can, whatever that means for you and your situation. My heart goes out to all the business that have been affected and had to temporarily close. So hard for many families. At this stage I am still able to assist patients in clinic or via phone/skype so let me know if I can help. This is me midway through my morning hike @ Morialta Cons...ervation Park. It’s my Happy place getting out alone and moving my body Given a lot of people’s Exercise regimes (Mine definitely included) have been shaken up with gyms, pilates, yoga studios etc temporarily closing, what are you doing to keep yourself active? Take advantage of the cooler weather, get outside and walk or run, whatever you can manage Youtube a pilates or yoga class Make up a circuit at home, you can get a great workout in with some simple body weight exercises, no matter what your level Run around with your children or animals Jump on your bike and go for a ride around the block Personally since having Henry I’ve learnt I’ve had to be a lot more flexible with my workout routine and that’s why I encourage you to do the same, sometimes trying something new really lifts your spirit plus it’s so great for our health! #exercise #exercisemotivation #beflexible #outdoors #hiking #wellbeing #naturopath #nutritionist #healthyliving

01.01.2022 My family have been craving more vegetarian based meals the last few months, so I thought I would share a creation with you that seems to be a regular request on our menu. We are all about Easy, Healthy, Clean and packed full of Nutrition when we prepare meals I pretty much just adjust the vegetables to what I have on hand/left over or what’s in season or out the garden. I recently was gifted a bunch of kale so I added that in there too!... My Hot tip, if you have time, steam and mash some sweet potato and bake it like a pie, it’s the best! (this rarely happens in our house hold as time is off the essence!) I should add > we aren’t vegan, but just enjoy a wide variety of plant based foods in our diet I also enjoy experimenting with how my body responds to foods so I can help others on their health journeys http://www.michelleharrisnaturopath.com.au/news #naturopath #nutritionist #plantbasedfood #curry #vegetarian #vegan #clean #healthy
