25.01.2022 Here I am talking with George Christensen about the Eton Range Crossing.
24.01.2022 It was great to talk with my LNP colleague George Christensen about the Urannah Dam. Planning for the dam has taken another step forward with the release of draft terms of reference for an Environmental Impact Statement. The Federal Government is providing $10 million towards the business case delivering on a key election commitment. The Business Case is due to be completed in August 2021. Urannah Dam is a major project that has the potential to deliver more reliable and high quality water supplies and increase productivity across the entire region
24.01.2022 Today in Cairns I was happy to announce a 76 million NAIF loan to CQ University so it can continue to be one of Australia's leading Regional Unis. Also the LNP have made NAIF loans more accessible so the money will flow.
24.01.2022 Thank you Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price MP for talking about a great local project in Capricornia - the Shoalwater Bay Training Area. Some $93 million of contracts have already gone to 44 local companies, with 27 more subcontractor packages expected to be released over the next six months. Stay tuned!
24.01.2022 Tone-deaf comments like this show just how divided the Labor Party is over coal. Hundreds of thousands of workers rely on coal for a job, but this shows members and senators in the Labor Party will sell someone else's job if it means saving their own. The LNP is the only party who supports coal and the resources industry.
23.01.2022 This morning I attended the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast. I was very interested in the Panel discussion. An absolute pleasure to meet Robert de Castella who started the Indigenous Marathon Foundation which has had incredible results in changing people’s lives!
22.01.2022 The LNP Government is focused on striking the right balance between providing temporary elevated levels of support for Australians hardest hit by the economic impact of the pandemic but at the same time creating incentives for people to re-engage with the workforce.
22.01.2022 An NBN Road Muster Truck has hit the road in Rockhampton! The trucks can be deployed anywhere in Australia to provide temporary internet connectivity to communities that have been hit by a natural disaster. The Trucks connect to the internet via a satellite connection, and in turn provide internet connectivity to people who stand within twenty metres or so of the vehicle via a wi-fi hotspot around the vehicle. This means that in an area which has no mobile coverage following ...a natural disaster, people in the area can come to the truck and get connectivity for example, to text or email loved ones. The LNP Government is funding the $37.1 million Strengthening Telecommunications Against Natural Disasters (STAND) package. This package is funding temporary telecommunications facilities such as five NBN Road Muster trucks; it is also funding additional back-up power for hundreds of mobile base stations around the country so that they can keep operating for up to twelve hours if the mains power goes down I inspected one of the trucks today and the crucial investment from the Government will help people in disaster-affected areas to stay connected with family and essential services.
21.01.2022 This afternoon I put my Assistant Minister for children and families hat on and toured the Salvos facility in Manunda Cairns. Gerry Vallianos our candidate in Mulgrave joined me. Over the next financial year 20/21 the Salvation Army will receive about 8.8 million in Federal funding to deliver emergency relief & financial counselling for low income families doing it tough.
21.01.2022 FUNDING NEW APPRENTICES AND TRAINEES IN CAPRICORNIA The LNP Government will invest an additional $1.2 billion to support Australian businesses to employ 100,000 new apprentices and trainees as part of our COVID-19 economic recovery plan. Starting today, 5 October 2020, businesses who take on a new Australian apprentice will be eligible for a 50 per cent wage subsidy, regardless of geographic location, occupation, industry or business size. ... Whether it’s the manufacturing, housing and construction, arts or mining sectors - this new wage subsidy gives businesses certainty to hire and provides a career path to young school leavers or others looking for an apprenticeship or traineeship. This new wage subsidy will provide school leavers and job seekers in Central and North Queensland with a real opportunity to upskill and reskill through an apprenticeship or a traineeship. The subsidy will be available to employers of any size or industry, Australia-wide who engage an Australian apprentice or trainee from 5 October 2020 until the 100,000 cap is reached. Under the new measure, employers will be eligible for the wage subsidy for a new or recommencing apprentice or trainee for the period up to 30 September 2021, up to $7,000 per quarter. More information on the measure is available at: https://www.employment.gov.au/boosting-apprenticeship-comme
20.01.2022 Please make sure to stay on top of any new information coming from QFES on this fire in Nerimbra. While there is no current risk to properties at the moment, please stay updated!
20.01.2022 This falsified image is a disgusting slur on all of Australia's men and women who serve in our armed forces. China should be ashamed. I join the Prime Minister in demanding China to apologise and for them or Twitter to take down this repugnant fake image.
20.01.2022 Getting a tour of the wonderful facilities CQ Uni have established in Cairns. The Morrison LNP Government through NAIF is helping to bring this vision to fruition. This will help cement Nth Queensland as a great place for young people to make a life. We in Capricornia should be very proud of our University.
20.01.2022 Thank you to the hundreds of Capricornia constituents who have expressed support to relocate the Enoggera-based armoured cavalry units up to Rockhampton near the Shoalwater Bay Defence facilities where the training takes place. Senator Matthew Canavan & I have heard you loud and clear and have written to the Minister for Defence Peter Dutton. You can read the full letter below
19.01.2022 Coalition colleagues and I were pleased to see Government reforms to the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) pass through Parliament paving the way for new wave of job-creating investment in the north. This means NAIF will now be extended for a further five years to 2026. The NAIF has already committed $2.9 billion to projects across the north that will support around 9,000 jobs. Our changes will increase its ability to back even more projects.... Keith Pitt | Senator Matthew Canavan | Melissa Price MP | Warren Entsch MP | Ken O'Dowd MP
19.01.2022 The Morrison McCormack Government is backing our heavy vehicle sector. Drivers will now have a choice in how they record their work and rest hours, with EWD diaries rolling out from 1 December. Making the most of technology, EWD's will improve road safety and increase productivity in the heavy vehicle industry.
18.01.2022 The Coalition Government’s Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) has reached a milestone in its ongoing support to CQUniversity Australia (CQU), supporting the university as it repositions itself from the COVID-19 pandemic. NAIF has responded with a $76 million loan to invest in CQU’s planned capital works and upgrades to digital infrastructure over the next two years. It was great to announce this with Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Klomp. The deal has now reache...d contractual close, an important milestone when proponents can start project design and construction, driving employment and economic growth. The Coalition government is a strong supporter of development in northern Australia, to provide jobs and economic opportunities right across the north for the benefit of all Australians. Since its inception, NAIF has committed more than $2.4 billion in projects across northern Australia, supporting around 8,000 jobs, and has reached contractual close on $1.1 billion of projects across the north.
17.01.2022 Amazing who you bump into when your out and about in Queensland. It's my Federal Colleague Warren Entsch.
17.01.2022 Today I visited the Mareeba Community Centre. The staff here are a lifeline for anyone in need. I discussed with the staff how they've been using the $145,000 dollars in federal funding they received. I also got the chance to tell them about the Morrison LNP Governments 1.1 billion dollars to boost mental health services.
17.01.2022 Thrilled to catch up today with the team at Gto Rockhampton - who are achieving wonderful results in helping local young mums and parents turn their lives around. Whether it’s building parenting skills, to supporting healthy lifestyles and preventing homelessness, I’m so impressed with the positive difference they’re making in the community
17.01.2022 Well done to Adrian DeGroot (LNP Keppel Candidate) for his announcements yesterday! $10 million towards the Convention/ Sports Complex at KBSC and $25 million to match Labor’s original commitment which has been announced twice now!
15.01.2022 It was a pleasure to watch the Darumbal dancers last night as a part of the Developing Northern Australia Conference. It's wonderful to showcase the local Indigenous culture to visitors from all around Australia!
15.01.2022 Mobile phone towers in Capricornia will be able to keep operating longer if the power goes out during or after natural disasters, thanks to a major new investment by the Morrison McCormack Government. The Government is funding Telstra and Optus to extend the battery back up at 5 mobile phone towers in Capricornia, to provide a minimum of 12 hours of back-up power. These include towers at Bungundarra, Stanage Bay Road, West Hill and Mount Chalmers which are servicing nearly 800 premises. This will make a real difference during and after a natural disaster.
14.01.2022 Congratulations to the Yeppoon Swans in breaking a World Record winning 89 games in a row. It was very exciting watching the game. I was very pleased that a Federal Grant paid for the lights so this could go ahead on home ground! Go the Mighty Swans!
14.01.2022 It was a great day today at Eton. Soon where I am standing with the Member for Dawson George Christensen will be a lookout and a picnic area for families. Plus it's now a great road and a safe road. Delivering for Capricornia is the best part of being your Federal Member.
13.01.2022 Patients living with one of Australia’s most common forms of leukaemia are set to benefit from expanded access to a breakthrough medicine through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). From 1 December, access to Venclexta (venetoclax) will be extended in combination with obinutuzumab for the first-line treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia who have co-existing conditions and are unsuitable for fludarabine-based chemo-immunotherapy. The Liberal-Nationals Government is continuing to make important medicines available to Australians at affordable prices

10.01.2022 BACKING OUR MANUFACTURERS TO CREATE JOBS FOR THE RECOVERY The Morrison Government is backing Australian manufacturers with a new $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Strategy. Manufacturing is critical to a modern Australian economy, and a vital part of our response during times of crisis. It is key to almost every supply chain and adds value across all sectors of our economy. And that means more jobs.... The strategy will help our manufacturers to: Scale-up; become more competitive; and build more resilient supply chains For more information please visit: www.industry.gov.au/manufacturing
09.01.2022 It was a pleasure to attend the Parliamentary Friends of Surf Life Saving and the Start of Summer Surf Safety launch. It was also great to meet James and Kirsty McLennan from Bronte SLSC who won the National Rescue Medal for their heroic rescue. They were off-duty, having dinner on their balcony in Bronte when they jumped into action after noticing a group of distressed swimmers being swept out to sea. They grabbed their rescue boards and paddled out onto the choppy waters an...d into a what turned out to be a serious mass rescue operation for six swimmers. James, who went out first, managed to get five swimmers to safety before things got dire with one swimmer, who was semiconscious among the waves and foaming at the mouth. He managed to recover in hospital afterwards. Early reports had suggested that up to 40 people were out in the ocean, however, the club’s final count saw 11 rescues, nine of which were described as serious, with one person recovering in hospital. In total, 18 volunteers and three off-duty lifeguards had answered the desperate call. Stories like this show our surf life savers are incredible volunteers who look out for the community. Remember to stay between the flags!

05.01.2022 MORE FUNDING FOR ROCKHAMPTON NORTHERN ACCESS UPGRADE The Queensland economy will be boosted, roads will be safer and thousands of jobs created, with a $1.3 billion investment into transport infrastructure from the Federal Coalition as part of our COVID-19 economic recovery plan. The latest funding injection builds on a series of statewide infrastructure investments from the Commonwealth in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic which now total more than $1.7 billion. ... This includes an additional funding boost of $29.6 million to the Bruce Highway Rockhampton Northern Access Upgrade, with $20 million of planning funding for the Bruce Highway Upgrade Strategy. Australian Government funding for the Rockhampton Northern Access Upgrade will ensure people in our community get home sooner and safer, whilst also delivering about 255 direct jobs locally. Today’s announcement is another crucial step the Morrison-McCormack Government is taking in mapping out our Central Queensland’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Australian Government has committed 80 per cent of the total funding towards the Rockhampton Northern Access Upgrade, which is expected to be completed by mid-2021.

05.01.2022 One of the things a Federal Member & Assistant Minister must do is listen to the people. Today I joined Senator Susan McDonald and local LNP state candidates for the "Growers & Seasonal Workers Forum" in Mareeba. They need workers. Come and have an adventure.
04.01.2022 There are some wonderful innovations in recycling, which is fantastic because the waste in clothing and textiles is appalling. Believe it or not Australians discard close to 800,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles each year, a rate of 15 tonnes every 10 minutes. I joined Trevor Evans MP in Parliament House to salute these wonderful recyclers.
04.01.2022 While this blaze at the moment poses no risk to properties near the Scenic Highway near Kinka Beach, please make sure to keep updated on any potential fire risks
04.01.2022 It was great to have a chat with Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack MP and Member for Flynn Ken O'Dowd MP about Rookwood Weir. It's a shame the Queensland Government is continuing to construct the weir with a nearly 30% drop in water capacity, directly from the agriculutural allocation. My priority now is for the farmers, graziers, primary producers and land owners to receive the water they need and at the price they need to thrive. I will be holding the Queensland Government to account.
03.01.2022 Spending time in the north of the state in my capacity as Assistant Minister for Northern Australia talking to the Mayor of Cairns Bob Manning, Dr Allan Dale from the Advisory Committee for Northern Australia as well as the CEO for North Queensland Airports Norris Carter.
