25.01.2022 Today’s studio collage session at #byroncommunitycollege . Hand-cut stencils for #gelliplate prints... then collaging the stencils after printing into their own abstract landscape.

25.01.2022 back in the byron studio doing some #collage again... . this is the early stages of #artistsbook no. 2. . exploring creating this one in memory of a friend we lost last year way too young...... . she and I both worked in coastal planning so looking at images of shorelines and coral reefs... and a palette she would have loved too. @ Stony Chute See more

23.01.2022 I’m on a roll... more mini abstracts on watercolour paper to share... . I really like the bold marks and muted palette on these. Not my usual but it’s good to do something outside my go to’s of turquoise and red earth!

22.01.2022 The exciting bit - unwrapping works out of the dye pot! . This is @littabella’s artwork.

20.01.2022 Last day of Byron College for this term today... finishing up in the collage studio - had so much fun... . Discovered lots of new techniques, like how great hand painted tissue paper is for collaging!! . New mini abstracts in acrylics, ink and graphite... @ Mullumbimby

19.01.2022 Playing in the studio... the challenge is to work fast with acrylics and pencils on paper... don’t over think, just get marks down that have variety. . I produced 12 x A4 sheets in about 30 mins. Felt good. Fun to play and not care about ‘these precious’ pieces. Just done and move onto the next. . I used a limited palette - white, Payne’s grey & turquoise...with some pencils and charcoal. ... . After they were dry, I went looking for elements that were working by using a mat board so I could isolate parts. Add some touches to finish these pieces. . Have 12 small works available. . Artwork is 11cm square and outer dimension of mat is 25cm square. . Each work: $98 with mat and timber frame; $75 with mat, no frame. . Send me a message if you are interested or have any questions. My contacts in bio. @ Stony Chute See more

19.01.2022 Set up for our afternoon of painting! . Running the creative activities for a friend’s celebration of her niece’s 21st! Painting, talking, getting massaged, botanical dyeing, bushwalking and creating together. Great idea for a big life event celebration!

19.01.2022 Work-in-progress studio shot. I have 3 new canvases like this - 50cm x 50cm - underway. . So I have finished 28 works since January. I also have about 8 canvases in varying stages of completion... I love the feeling of excitement as a work comes to life. Sometimes, it reminds me of the process of watching film develop in the chemical bath. My job is to witness the painting as it comes forth from the canvas! . Being an artist brings so much joy.

16.01.2022 Hello Wednesday - how beautiful you are!

16.01.2022 I love working with multiple canvases on the go... I shuffle them around where I’m working, adding colour /details to one and then with wet paint on my brush grab another from where it’s propped up against the wall / bookshelf and start in on it! . After a ‘sesh’ I might not have finished any, but moved several further down the path to finishing. . It’s like a creative leap frog! ... . These detail shots are of one the canvases I have ‘on the go’... . It’s fun looking at these little miniatures within a larger canvas too. I see more when I isolate parts - bits I like and want to repeat (albeit differently) in future works, bits I don’t think work and need some touches. . Loving time in my studio today. It’s a good day!! @ Stony Chute See more

16.01.2022 D-rings + wire for all the new frames... . a joyful production line! . my Sunday afternoon

16.01.2022 Saturday was an ‘Art of Abundance’ workshop at the beautiful @pottsville_yoga_studio with Angela and a wonderful group of women. . Such a treat to have a space for the workshop that is already so filled with loving, healing energy. . We played with colour and mixing, collage and stencilling. ... . Fun to have 3 women who have never painted before- the 4 Step, Paint from the Heart process was perfect for getting them started. . Big gratitude for the company and everyone’s enthusiasm! @ Pottsville Beach Yoga Studio See more

15.01.2022 The process of art making is how I hear what I need to say.

15.01.2022 details of some new work, Unearthed... . love this colour combination... .

15.01.2022 Some details of 3 new canvases painted together as one. . Loving the differences of the small frames within the larger canvases. . I’m looking for their title... ‘of Earth & Song’ is the front runner this morning.... . I’m off to the studio to film the final canvases so I can finish the time lapse of these coming to life. It takes a long while to make these but they can be SOOOO worth it! @ Stony Chute See more

14.01.2022 What a wonderful opportunity... enrol in Tracy Verdugo’s Jump into Abstract Painting for only $27! I did the course earlier this year and is great value! Highly recommend it for you creative bugs!

12.01.2022 Life drawing along with half of Australia! #sbslifedrawinglive

11.01.2022 Sunday in the studio... lots of cleaning, tidying and sorting... then some #collage play... Love the humble brown paper bag and recycled newsprint as a key accent.

08.01.2022 Here’s the latest from my studio... of Earth & Song... . loved playing with large scale collage of hand-painted papers in these canvases. I used tissue, flip-chart and sketchbook paper. . Remember those stunning cut outs that Matisse did in his later years? Like The Swimming Pool... ... . okay - I’ve not got figures in mine, true. See more

06.01.2022 That moment when you realise the canvas you have almost finished is not square and so will need a bit of the big hammer touch to get into alignment before framing!!! It’s because the frame is only average quality in the first place. This one is old and so was bought back in the day when I believed spending a lot on canvases was an extravagance I wasn’t willing to pay for. The other habit I had when I first started painting was buying quality paint but being too afraid to ...use it. So it stayed in the tube. Things have changed and I now see the value and importance of buying good materials - quality canvas frames, decent paint... though I still love my $2 house painting brush. Is this something you have done? skimped on materials and regretted it?

05.01.2022 #details of new abstract work... . Besotted with this colour palette of red earth and phthalo turquoise / marine blue... and all the tertiary colours that come from mixing them with each other and amounts of white. . Collage of hand drawn icons inked onto reused brown paper bags and stained tissue paper. ... . Two more of this series are on the go. . Loving time in the studio after a big week working on Cape York. Schmushing paint around is such a grounding thing after two days travel plus three days of workshopping up north. @ Stony Chute See more

05.01.2022 Details of a new pair of paintings - teal and red orange...

04.01.2022 Take a look through my sketchbook from #The100DayProject 2021. This is a part of what I did during the past 100 days. For this project, I focused on colouring mixing with a limited palette #100DaysofColour_MWA. I did sets of colours during the 100 days. Here were my combinations: 1) alizarin crimson, Payne's grey and raw umber; 2) pyrrole red, burnt umber and cerulean blue; 3) cadmium orange, ultramarine blue; 4) quinacrindone nickel azo gold and cobalt turquoise; 5) Indian y...ellow hue and deep violet; 6) quinacridone magenta, phthalo turquoise and green gold. The idea I began with was to mix tertiary colours and discover different muted colours and chromatic greys than I previously had. I learnt how to mix a range of colours so I can reproduce them in artworks when I need to. For example, it's wonderful to have muted colours and chromatic greys adjacent to a more prismatic (vibrant) colour to make it *pop*!! As well as this sketchbook, I kept a studio notebook where I recorded the admixture palettes - adding colours to each other in the set as well as adding white and black. The array of new colours was astounding! If you enjoyed this video, take a look at the others I have on my YouTube channel!

04.01.2022 FINALLY I’m getting close to officially opening my online store for my jewellery, enameling and fine art prints! Sometimes these endeavours on my ‘to do’ list just seem to inhabit the ‘never getting done’ section But in this case, slowly, slowly... I am getting there! ... Man, it can be a challenge Not sure exactly what has been in my way - probably minor things like I need to photograph the work, don’t have a good set up, wanted to have some being worn but who? (Not me !!)... but it feels good to be nearing the finish line.

03.01.2022 If you’re interested in learning about enameling for jewellery and are in the #ByronBay / #northernriversnsw area, I am running a 1-day class on Saturday 22 May. 03.01.2022 Final pieces on the artist’s book made yesterday- fine silver finishings for the catch and closure. . The silver pieces link my jewelry making with my collage. . The artists book is called ‘The Book of 3 Breaths’... I started work on it back in June when 3 things in my universe converged - lockdown due to Covid (which affects breathing/ respiratory systems), Black Lives Matter protests following the death of George Floyd (I can’t breathe) and participating in a visual art class called Breathing the Land. The powerful symbol of the breath was coming up again and again. @ Stony Chute

02.01.2022 A close up of my new big work... it’s a triptych - 3 x 75cm x 50cm. I’ve had these canvases since 2007... they were part of the exhibition from that year. The original work was a body mapping of my exhibition partner, exploring the health challenge she’d been through the previous year. Clearing out my studio the other day, I thought it was time to transform them. ... This is just the early stages. I have been using a 2 house painting brush. It’s satisfyingly good at getting paint on to the canvas. Can’t wait to get back to it tomorrow.

02.01.2022 Botanical dyeing with eucalyptus leaves + pressing onion skins, turmeric & blueberries on watercolour paper. . Wonderful colours, random patterns and chemical reactions! . With @littabella and family on the weekend.

01.01.2022 Reading Clear Seeing Place at the moment... a book about being an artist by Brian Rutenberg... . Wonderful read. Thoroughly recommend it for anyone, not just people into art.
