21.01.2022 Well this weekend wasn’t what was planned. Training sessions had to be hastily changed due to the snap lockdown. But I was incredibly proud of how our team got it done and kept to the rules. Long runs became 1 hour tempo sessions, treadmills and indoor bikes dusted off. And I think everybody managed to achieve a good weekends training and at the same time doing the right thing and keeping safe.... Good work guys

15.01.2022 The first big race of the year is coming up this weekend. We will be well represented this year with 9 athletes taking part. Best of luck to 100km Kate Bevilaqua, Daniel Chidlow. 75km Cherie Petit... 50km Casey Edlington, Ashley Edlington, Nathan Fawkes 25km Michelle Bovil, Paola Mena. It should be a great day, I’m really looking forward to seeing these guys smash it

14.01.2022 Rockingham Parkrun 5km this morning. 4 of us ran and 3 PBs were produced. ( No prizes for guessing who didn’t) Casey 22mins 04 secs, shaving a neat 4secs off her previous best.... Steve 23mins 09 secs. A great run after a disrupted couple of weeks. Martina 23mins 12 secs. Backing up Just 2 weeks after her fine 3rd place in a 53km trail race. Congratulations to all three of you. All the hard work is paying off

14.01.2022 As a coach, I would like to introduce you to someone who mentored and guided me in my early years in the sport. The gentleman wearing No 96 in the photos. Don Ritchie was an amazing athlete and a great friend of mine. When we first met way back in 1981 he was already a multi world record holder with some amazing performances to his name. Here are a few.... 100kms 6 hours 10mins 20 secs (3mins 42 secs per km pace ) 100miles 11 hours 30 mins Marathon 2hours 19mins. Despite Don being probably the best ultra runner in the world at that time, and myself a young enthusiastic newcomer we became good friends We trained and raced together and i got an insight into what it took to be a champion. Indeed the coaching principles that I now pass on to my athletes Mostly come from this man Consistency, Event specific training, hardwork, and have fun along the way. I was fortunate to train with Don for 16years before I emigrated to Australia. The race the these photos were taken from was the 2 Bridges Road Race in 1983. Of course Don won the event. It also marked the occasion of my first ultra. I’m afraid there are no photos of me. I was way back in the field, having a hard time and at that point vowing never to run an ultra marathon ever again We remained great friends and It was great that I got a chance to get back and catch up before he sadly passed away in June2018.

14.01.2022 A wonderful weekend for our team a couple of weeks ago.. Great job by our 4 runners Daniel, Casey, Martina and Ilze. Superbly supported by Valerie. Thank you so much Ashley for putting this video together, it’s great to have this memory.

12.01.2022 This why I just love coaching. To witness the absolute joy of a job well done

12.01.2022 On Sunday we saw the running of the annual 6 inch trail marathon ( actual distance 47kms). Running from North Dandalup to Dwellingup, mostly following the Munda Biddi mountain bike trail. Traditionally the last race race of the year, this race is, in my opinion, the most prestigious event to be part of in the state It always boasts a top quality field and this year was no exception. Over 300 runners toed the line to take on this tough but beautifully organised event.... Mick Francis Coaching was well represented, with 6 athletes taking part. Kate Bevilaqua: Kate is a top quality, well known triathlete, who this year has been been dipping her toes into trail running, with great success. She had a great run in a very competitive race coming in 3rd place lady ( only 2 mins covered the first 3 positions) with a 17min PB for the course a solid run from this incredibly talented athlete. Casey Edlington Casey has had a great year in what is her first full year of running. She has been improving all year and in this race backed up well from her fine win in the WTF 50miler in September. She finished 13th lady ( out of 96) in an impressive time of 5 hours 02 mins. A great result in this stacked field. Martina Tairea This lady is improving all the time and has had a great year with some very impressive results. This race was no exception. Martina came in 17th lady with a time of 5 hours 11mins. This was a massive 1 hour 48min improvement on her last appearance in this race. Ilze Roux Another big year for this lady, backing up from a 100km race just a few weeks ago. Ilze decided to take a casual approach and set out to enjoy the event, This is what she did and finished with a big smile in just under 7 hours Nathan Fawkes. This is a guy I have known for many years and I have seen him rise through the ranks to develop into a fine athlete. I have been coaching Nathan for just under a year and I have been amazed at his capacity for hard work. This work has been rewarded with some great results this year, but in my opinion he saved the best for last. 7th place in a ridiculously talented line up and a time of 3hours 38mins, which was a 9 min PB, was the result. Great run!! Ashley Edlington Ash joined us a couple of months ago, Fairly new to the sport he has been improving very quickly, breaking PBs on a regular basis. This was his first attempt at an Ultra, and it was a very impressive debut. He ran a beautifully judged race, leaving nothing out on the trail., and was rewarded with an excellent time of 4 hours 41 mins. I feel this is only the beginning for this extremely talented runner. I am proud of all these guys and it is wonderful to see commitment and hard work pay off, and managing to have a lot of fun along the way.

11.01.2022 Every now and again in this sport a rare talent comes along. This young man is Allan Pilling. I have been coaching his dad Grant for a while now, and when asked to take on Allan I was initially reluctant. I have over the years seen so many excellent youngsters lost to the sport and I guess pushed probably too soon. However I agreed and I am now really glad I did.... He is an extremely level headed, confident and nice lad and has already has a good grasp of the princiles of training. Allan is the same age as I was when I started, and I have been thinking back (a long time I know ) on what I used to do. I was lucky I had an excellent coach at that age, so I am hoping I can do the same for him We are keeping it light Max training sessions of 6kms total (amazing what we can get out of a 6 km session ) and maximum race distance of 5kms First up will be the Fremantle 5kms at the festival of running in 4weeks time. 05.01.2022 8 years ago!!! I ran my 100th marathon. I couldn’t have chosen a better place than the Rottnest running festival. It was a wonderful weekend and had a great time celebrating on the island with friends and family

05.01.2022 Some great racing from the team last weekend. Lake Rumble Marathon Joondalup. Nathan Fawkes had a cracker of a run, absolutely smashing his marathon PB by 6 mins Clocking up a very impressive 2 hours 44mins... Good enough for 3rd place and only 2 mins behind the winner. That elusive sub 2.40 might not be too far away Perth Trail series Snakes and Ladders 16km trail race. Cherie Petit had a great run on a tough hilly course taking in the famous 3 steps both up and down. Cherie made use of her ever increasing trail skills to secure 11th place out of 73 runners in the ladies race. A great effort especially as it came just 3 weeks after her fine run in the Margaret River 80km race 3 Valleys 50km trail race. This race was a beauty. 52kms and 1900m of elevation on tough gnarly trails. Casey Edlington continued her impressive form in this type of event. It seems, the tougher it is the better she gets. A typical strong run saw her secure 3rd place behind 2 very strong established lady runners. In a time of 6hours 25mins With a big year ahead I’m sure we are going to see many more impressive results from Casey Edgar Cepeda had a good solid run, despite a few issues he held on well for a fine 6th place in 6 hours 37 mins. Plenty more to come from this extremely strong athlete. Martina Tairea unfortunately had to pull out after rolling her ankle. Martina has been in great shape and was looking to have a really good run here. However it wasn’t to be, and she had to make the tough decision to pull the pin to prevent further damage. A decision I definitely agreed with. And Coach.?? Coach got around relatively unscathed. Just a couple of stumbles and an argument with a big log, but otherwise an uneventful run for the old man

04.01.2022 Larkhill trail races on Saturday night was as usual a great event and we were well represented. The evening kicked off with the children’s race ( always one of my favourites) held over a 800 metre loop. It was how far you could run in 45 mins. With an icy pole station each lap We had 7 children in the event with all having great fun, most of them running their furthest ever distance. Allan Pilling, a young lad with a very bright future ahead led the field home with a very ...solid 9kms covered. Then it was time for the adults to go off and play. We were represented in both the 25kms and the 50km events. Held on a 3km (approx) loop the 25km covered 9 laps and the 50km a seemingly never ending 17 laps In the 25km race Daniel Chidlow ran very strongly and claimed 3rd place in 1 hour 54 mins using this as a training run for the upcoming Bunbury Marathon. Graham Edlington running in his longest race and first trail event, executed his race plan perfectly and came storming home in 6th place in 2 hours 16mins. In the 50km. Martina Tairea produced probably her best run to date, storming home to take the ladies title in 4 hours 54mins her first race win but I’m sure not her last. Martina was chased home by Casey Edlington taking out second place in 5 hours 15mins, another fine run by this very talented athlete.. Not to be outdone by the ladies Nathan Fawkes continuing his great recent form, came storming home in first place in an impressive time of 3hours 49mins, Especially impressive as this was largely a training run for his upcoming marathon race in 3 weeks time. Nathan was followed home by Ashley Edlington. Running his longest distance to date, Ash ran an extremely strong and controlled race to finish in 8th place in 4 hours 52 mins. And Coach ? Coach made his return to racing and was happy with his 9th placing in 5hours 02 mins So overall it was a great night out and we the runners were well looked after by our awesome support crew. Valerie, Jenny, Cherie and Miranda. Thankyou ladies
